Capcom DENIES "Action Control" Option For Resident Evil 5
Update: This is why marketing guys shouldn't be breaking down gameplay during interviews. The marketing representative in this video is clear, but we have direct confirmation from Capcom that the information is inaccurate. We have the final review build for the game and there is NO option for run 'n gun (moving while shooting), and there isn't going to be, either. Sorry for the confusion.
Original Story:
Okay, so as some of you may or may not know, we do have a build of Resident Evil 5 in our possession. Obviously, we won't be able to talk about it for a while longer, as the embargo date for reviews is still a ways off. However, an interesting conflict has arisen...
In our time with the game, it seems we can't adopt a "run-and-gun" style of gameplay; in other words, the controls are the same as they were in RE4. Translation? You still can't move and shoot at the same time. This is a major issue from our standpoint and one that is guaranteed to be highly disappointing to those looking for a more action-oriented innovation in RE5. But if you check out this OXM video, head of marketing at Capcom, Mike Webster, confirms that such a control scheme (called simply "Action Control") will be included in the final retail version of the game. If you start listening at about the 1:20 mark, Webster clearly defines the option for those of you looking for a more Gears of War, fast-paced gameplay format. Provided the information is accurate - and we'd hate to think such an option is only available in the 360 version - we shouldn't face the exact same control limitations as we did in RE4. We didn't want to believe Capcom had completely ignored its fans, you know?
Either way, Resident Evil 5 will be one of the biggest releases of the year, but without that feature, a whole lot of people are going to be upset. Many others may not care - they just loved RE4 and they don't require a change - but such gameplay enhancements are good for everyone, especially when they're presented as an option.

The more power you have the less scary it is!
But I don't blame them for puting it in after everyone freaked out... can't gamers stop complaining, its an unnessesary machanic that was not originally intended and will turn resi into dead space.
grrrrr
horror is dead ... ect

i just made that up but its true.
the only people giving out about the controls are the gearshead who never bothered to play re4 because it was on gamecube & then ps2!!
of course there will be some who never played a RE game or some that have come back since playing RE1-3 & RE CVX but the controls are 95% the same if not exactly the same from RE2 to RE4.
There not that hard to pick up,accuracy can decide ur fate in RE games.
Cant speak for handguns(illegal in ireland)but try running and firing with a rifle and see how accurate your shot is not to mention how bloody heavy said rifle is(no wonder chris has been hitting the steroids),accuracy with a shotgun is'nt a factor at close range but same as above.
This demo is alot of fun online and i cant forkin wait 4 the game to hit ;)
i'd say the new aiming method will incorporate a slow walk like in Cold Fear(freakin savage game)

add me and we shall kill lots of different races together in RE5 demo :P

Look at Dead Space - this was really scary too and you had a whole bunch of moving, shooting, looking possibilities. A survival horror game is not defined by poor controls in my opinion

RE has lost it's soul somwhere along the way and I don't think will see it again. That's how it is - Capcom will make games on their own and knows that they will sell, because it's "RE" after all....
And I'm buing it too, but I'm not exited about it anymore.
Shame on you Capcom.

R u sure u've played the RE5 demo?
Does anybody see it the way Jacksparrow here sees it?
Slow-ass zombies with their hands stretched out without weapons....SCARRIER than fast-paced infected enemies with weapons who come in large numbers n can "game over" u in a sec with a chainsaw or some other.......HUH??????
u must be kiddin' me,u're entitled to ya opinion though but this.........naaaaaaawwwww!

But I dunno, you definitly don't get as paranoid in the latest installments but i still think running the f*** away from a psycho "sackboy" with a chainsaw or a "Astaroth" cameo still gets you in the panic mode :) But in the demo you didn't get too much, just a little taste. They probably wanna hide the scares for later

I didn't compare a zombie to a guy with chainsaw. It's more about the atmosphere. Imagine walking in daylight and you see a group of "Genados" with axes - they spot you, you start to run, they chase you - you have forseen this, this is just "dangeruos". Now imagine walking dark corridor in abandoned mansion, you hart beats slowly, your awarness is high, than suddenly some licker falls from the celling and you pissing yourself at the same time with adrenaline leaking from your ears - now this is scarry.
But lets leave this issue untill full game will hit the market. I just think RE should stay as it was i.e. in Remake. I miss puzzles:P

I get where you're coming from, but I can't help but disagree. I've been playing RE games since I was in 8th grade (when RE2 came out) and RE4 was definitely the best Resident Evil game out of them all. RE5 can't go wrong if follows the same formula as RE4.
My big problem with RE5 is the suddenly "mature" dialogue. Why do people think that putting a few f-bombs in your game automatically makes it cooler? Lame lame lame.

RE4 holds a special place in my heart as I played it on 3 diffeent systems and thought it got better with each port/reiteration!! That's right I liked it best on the Wii(just really suited the controls and the classic Resi limitation for the sake of vulnerability was just right with the motion seinsing-which is why I'm shocked at no Resi love from Capcom to Wii this time but expect an offshoot announced at E3 for Ninty fans)-and though I get stick for saying that I'll stand by it even now.
As for the demo... I'm just not sure about it HAVING to be co-op(I don't think it's the be all and end all and it just seems fasionable to have right now and personally I'd have marked Killzone2 up a coupla points for not bowing to fashion or feature creep and possobly hobbling the overall experience a la L4D's neutered SP).
When playing alone on the demo I found myself worrying about where the girl was all the time and it jusr became a few moments of Resi multi tasking-but now as well as clipping the nearest zombie and saving ammo you have to see how the AI help's getting on and manage their stuff as well as your own. This meant I didn' get any "scres" as such but just a bit frustrated that I couldn't just stick the gorl in the corner like you would with Ashley in R4 and get on with the job yourself.
Obviously online with a trusted colleague it'll be an absolute hoot-but with two of you talking to each other you just don't get the isolated feel of the older games at all.
Thank god the controls are the same deliberately sausage handed mess with stop and its aiming to shoot-being able to run and gun(which if I really wish to do I'll play UT3 or Gears or anything/any generic third person shooter)would, for me, take away the ast lingering vestage of the creepy, kmow it's coming but still jump RE's of yesteryear.
The location has zero to do with how scary the game can be, for me it's the fact you're never gonna feel truly alone against the infected hordes-in your pants with the sound up high and lights off at 4am being the preferred method.
I'll still, as a huge series fan, be picking up my preorder but IDK that Capcom(or anyone)have got the nature of making co-op frightening yet(L4D gets a few jumps in in co-op-but creepy or frightening?)but tghe demo just gave me more Q's than A's tbh-many of which would be irrelevant if you had the choice of playing a SP campaign as either CR or Shiva on their own. Also I just want to do the co-op online with one particular mate -which in itelf can prove a pain(being available and able and wanting to play for long enough to get through it in a few days etc)and once you have done what's there to keep you going back?
Just as it would've been great to have some online for Dead Space it would be good to have an actual SP RE5 to play rather than, if you don't have a connection or like co-op, a co-op game gimped for single players. I just hope there's a lot more than the admittedly pretty sruff than meets the eye here.
