Valve Replies To L4D PS3 Rumor

The interpretation of the spoken word doesn't take much skill, but it does take attention and observation. The interpretation of the written word is that much more difficult, simply because we don't have the benefit of things like tone, facial expression, volume, and pronunciation. ...now that the linguistics lesson is over, let's get to the subject at hand.

As most of you know, it has been rumored that Left 4 Dead will come to the PlayStation 3. There has been evidence that the excellent Xbox 360 exclusive will make the leap to Sony's console; we've seen supposed pictures of the PS3 box (some claimed you could even pre-order it at Best Buy), and a UK retailer website actually listed the PS3 version for a June 5, 2009 release. However, neither Valve or EA will make any sort of confirmation or announcement. The only reply is recent, and...well, it's easy to spot the sarcasm, if you don't wish to take the words at face-value. In response to the suggestion that a PS3 port was making its way to store shelves on June 5, a Valve representative replied to CVG:

"Fantastic. I can't wait to see it."

Er...well, that certainly sounds sarcastic, especially because the implication is that the rep has never heard of a L4D PS3 project. Then again, it's not exactly a specific denial, so the optimist in us hopes for the best. There's really no knowing what will happen at this point, but Valve's icy relationship with the PlayStation brand may override EA's drive to make everything multiplatform. Who knows?

To be honest, Valve shouldn't even bother. Most of the PS3 community wouldn't cross the street to spit in Gabe Newell's face. And well, let's be frank, is anyone really waiting to see the next pile of garbage Valve can make on an ever aging engine? Sorry, Valve is on permanent boycott, they obviously don't care about proper optimization on multiple core processors. It's a bit beyond their abilities, I think.

And furthermore, I only purchase exclusives for my PS3. The rest I get for PC, because they're optimized better for the PC (GTAIV, for example). Valve, however, gets no such benefit from me. At the very most, I download it.

Well, Gabe N has pretty much snubbed the PS3. Maybe it's becuase Valve have neither the skill or ability to code for it.

Still, there's plenty of quality games on my PS3 I haven't played yet. I'm not bothered about this.

They put themselves in a position where they can kick ps3 fans where it hurts with a little sarcasm, but they can still deny it and say they were serious. They're not burrying the hatchet which would be a stupid thing to do.

It's sad that there are companies such as Valve who stubbornly want to be Microsoft exclusive (Games For Windows and Xbox 360) forever and won't support the growing userbase of the PS3. I'd really love to play Left 4 Dead, everybody says it's an amazing game. However, I don't have a powerful PC or an Xbox 360 with Live.

Gabe Newell is a joke. Maybe most of the PS3 community ignore his ravings but I don't. He's just another lightening rod for Console Wars. He represents one of the negative aspects of the video game industry.

Seriously? Haze over L4D? You really not must be playing the game right, if at all. L4D is a multiplayer co-op game through and through, and it's meant to be replayed multiple times.The dynamic AI makes it a different experience everytime.

Knock Valve all you want - the lack of PS3 support is truly bothering - but it's ignorant to dismiss a game like L4D based on something like length alone.

I have it for pc too, and i cant stand it. Valve wasted their time making this steaming load when they could have made more Half Life.
L4D has terrible gameplay, its just hordes of zombies flooding onto the street every time you round a corner. It got dull very quickly.

Don't be disappointed guys. I've got a 360 and played the game and it was so boring killing the same zombies time and time again over just 5 levels and with a total of only 4 weapons. Yawn.Glad I rented it. Let's put it this way. Just another garbage 360 exclusive. Nothing to brag about here to the likes of what PS3 has.

I like L4D, It's fun playing coOp. there are some things that are missing, like better guns and more weapons but it was the first edition. I Do wish it could port on the ps3, its still fun to play with friends and the online feature is nice if you want to play as the zombies themselves. I'm sure we'd all rave about it if it was a ps3 exclusive. I'd like it either way.

@ Killzone100 - Yeah I was following Haze's production for a very very long time, actually ahd the game preordered for a year. Sad how it turned out, but I'd still rather play Haze than any Valve IP. Any. Funny thing is, FRD's made quite a bit from me....Valve has never, gotten 1 cent of my money, however. (Nor will they)

They constantly disrespect the ps3 and ps3 owners. They could make games for it, but they just don't.

When EA made the Orange Box for ps3 Valve would not release any of the updates for Team Fortress 2 that 360 and PC got.

They just ignore the ps3 market, which is stupid and demeaning.

I just think that L4D is a fun game and a L4D 2 would actually be a great game for the ps3, not only cuz it should be improved from the first one but also because we all need more zombie games. If they do make L4D 2 I really hope they make a longer single player campaign mode to. I also believe the more zombies/mutants/creatures, the better off the world is, and if Valve gets ride of that jerk Gabe Newell the better off they are.

Ohhh well I cant say that if it came out today I would even buy this game less sells for them. I cant see that doing that will be good for there stocks, I am going to be too busy today as it were I am going to be playing my killzone 2 demo I got two pre-orders from gamestop today I got one for me and one for my friend, Cuz friends dont let friends drink and drive or go with out some killzone in there ps3's.

I played L4D on my buddies 360, and I must say it is a pretty awesome game but it does get boring fairly quickly. More weapons would have been better. But the AI director is a pretty sweet idea... That for me was pretty impressive.

But if they had to bring it to the PS3 I don't know if I will get it thou.

Fantasize about the Xbox 360 features you wish existed, like built-in wireless networking, a user-upgradeable hard drive, Blu-Ray, and the like.
