Killzone 2, Demon's Souls Hit Amazon Japan's Top 10 List

In the past, one could easily predict the titles that would sell well in Japan. Most wouldn't dare to list FPSs are Western-style RPGs, but over the past few years, we've seen more evidence of changing preferences in the Land of the Rising Sun. Perhaps one of the best examples of this shift is the most recent Amazon Japan's Top 10 Video Game list.

As you can see, Killzone 2 is right there on the list at #8, a mere step behind the guaranteed blockbuster, Resident Evil 5. Furthermore, we see Demon's Souls on there at #4, which is most certainly a Western-oriented RPG that may be most reminiscent of the Baldurs Gate: Dark Alliance games from the last generation. It also serves to ramp up our interest of the game, and makes us hope From Software will provide us with a North American release date soon. It launches today - that's right, today - in Japan, which is probably the reason it sits so high on the Top 10 list. But the mere fact that both these games are on there, given the history of Japan's gaming preferences, proves that Eastern gamers don't only play a certain type of production. We've already seen a good response to other titles, like Grand Theft Auto IV, and it seems we can expect more of that. Perhaps there's a darn good reason why Japanese developers are concerned that Western devs are starting to steal a major portion of the market...?

Anyway, we all know how awesome Killzone 2 is, but man, are any other RPG fans suddenly gravitating towards Demon's Souls? Let's hope the translation process doesn't take too long...

I'm from the east, not Japan though. Southeast Asia specifically. I don't play FPS games but Killzone 2 has got me interested. I'm not so excited about Demon's Soul though. I'll just wait and see.

Alright, seriously the complaining about Amazon is tired. Just stop. But it's funny that Killzone is #8 on the list meanwhile Star Ocean is #11..Should've been on the PS3 also

I think kz2 will reach 6 million by years end. If it manages a million in japan I will be happy, as for Demon's soul I am not so excited by american rpgs unless they are mmos.

I won't be getting anywhere near RE5. The camera angle sucks, you cant move while shooting, and I don't remember being able to strafe. I hate having to run up to an enemy (when you are out of ammo), wait for buddy to pull out the knife then slash, put away the knife (in most cases), move forward, wait to pull out the knife, slash again... ...etc. etc. etc. You cant pull out your knife and move at the same time? who the hell thought of that? That's even worse than the gun thing.

Didn't they already say in the real game their will be an 'action control' option, letting you run and gun, while the stop and shoot option will remain...for "elite" players as they put it...or maybe it was "veteran" lol but none-the-less, same thing

@Ben - I hope you see this, I wanna get your opinion on KZ2's graphics.

I'm confused...

Some reviews claim that KZ2 is the: best looking game for the PS3, best looking game this generation, or the best looking game ever made.

While some have no doubt it's the best looking game to date on any console, some others claim that it's up there with games like Gears 2, Uncharted and MGS4.

What's your verdict?

@Fabi:I would say KZ2 is way better looking than Gears 2 and the 1st Uncharted, I would say comparing it to MGS4 is a better choice. But just wait for the launch day then you can make that decision for yourself...

I'm also getting pretty amp'd about Demon's Soul.And to the ones complaining about the RE5 controls obviously hasn't played the previous ones as it's ALWAYS been that way and it adds to the game in it's own way, more strategy than just run and gun....And it's gonna be a great title...

Already have Demon's Souls ordered with NCSX.

AS for Japan's game tastes these days, who here thought LBP would sell like bento boxes in Japan because of its quirky, cute factor?

Yep, so did I! Instead it is met with middling sales in Japan.
