Killzone 2 Tops 1 Million Pre-Orders, Demo On EU PSN
You know, even though we're gigantic fans of Killzone 2, we're getting a little tired of seeing a trillion headlines every day. You readers should be thankful; we purposely limit the number of KZ2 stories we do and try to keep things diverse. If we reported on all the KZ2-related news out there, we'd have to change our name to KillzoneExtreme.
Anyway, two pieces of information that really are important: first, the playable demo has apparently hit the European PlayStation Store. It weighs in at just over 1.2 gigs (about 1200MBs, for the technically deficient), and it's guaranteed to get you salivating for the final product. Second, it appears that pre-orders have already topped the one million mark; David Reeves apparently mentioned the "1.1 million pre-orders" for Killzone 2 in that Guardian interview, although we didn't see it. It's not a surprising number, though, considering everyone's anticipation of the FPS masterpiece. Besides, when GameStop runs a promotion that allows you to sample the game simply by pre-ordering it - they were handing out voucher codes for the playable demo - that's bound to ramp up this particular statistic. We thought that 1.1 million number was worldwide, but apparently, it comes only from European pre-orders. Just...wow.
Killzone 2 launches on February 27 in North America and from what we've heard, February 25 in Europe. We can pretty much guarantee you a rockin' good time if you purchase this one, and if you opt to pass, you're missing out on one of the finest gaming experiences ever. Can't make it any plainer than that.

this game truly deserves this attention but the only difference between this game and others is that its unparalled in graphics and it lives to all the hype that it was given and without breaking a sweat.

"...at least four million copies of Halo 3 were pre-ordered globally, making it the fastest pre-selling game to date. Worldwide more than US$300 million worth were sold in the first week, helping to more than double the sales of the Xbox 360 when compared with the weekly average before the Halo 3 launch. In the U.S., Halo 3 sold 3.3 million copies in its first 12 days on sale, increasing to 3.7 million copies by November 15, 2007. On October 4, 2007, Reuters UK estimated that Halo 3 may have sold up to 5.2 million copies worldwide in the first two weeks after launch. By November 30, 2007, Halo 3 had sold 5 million copies worldwide, and as of that point, was the best-selling video game of 2007 in the U.S., even though the game is only available on one console. On January 3, 2008, Microsoft announced that Halo 3 has sold 8.1 million copies."
So, it's got a ways to go to hit Halo status as far as sales.
It would be great to see KZ2 top Halo 3 in sales. But, as long as it tops Halo 3 in every other way possible, I'm a happy camper.

yes it does have a way to go maybe the statistics i read were nationally not globally since the numbers u got were way higher. I don't know the figures but mordakai1 is right I'm sure Japan has plenty of pre-orders as well and then throw the U.S. in also i mean you could already GUESSTIMATE theres 2.5 mil. pre-orders just between the 3 (Europe, Japan, U.S.). Its fun to speculate, and on launch day i guess well see how it unfolds. Anyways either way if this one does well and people respond which seems to be the case i have a feeling KZ2 will finally smack some sense into people. makes me happy!!!!

It's his opinion but I can't see him as a real shooter fan right now :P
;)
EDIT: What? My mistake, but you told me MGS4 looks better.

the Alt-4 controls are ok, I just don't like having to zoom while peaking from cover. It feels weird and cumbersome.
I'm waiting more so on the multiplayer now. Expecially hearing how bad the end boss is.

and yes, the multiplayer pawns the living hell out of the other shooters out there, even 3rd person shooters like Gears 2 and MGO.

First, the sound effects and music are amazing. I felt like I was in a movie. It's an aural feast.
I can't complain about the graphics much but I have to say it was hyped too much. I was led to believe that I'd be playing cg quality. Don't get me wrong, it's sweet but I guess I was expecting too much. That's what hype does. The lighting/shadows, motions, and the amount of stuff happening are incredible. The textures were great for the most part but some areas do have a washed out look like some have said. The framerate seems solid but this is just the demo ofcourse so I guess I'll just have to see. I agree with Arnold's review about the 9.6 graphics. It's definitely the best looking FPS out there but it's not perfect.
The main complaint are the controls. I was expecting CoD style but it really is very different. I did not like the choices for the control settings. They should have given us an option to map buttons. Maybe I was just spoiled on how good CoD's control setting/options. Also, the controls are not as tight as I thought it should be. I don't know if it's me but the controls are a bit mushy. Probably some more practice will help.
In the end...this is just a demo and it's not the finished product. I'm happy with the graphics but I sure hope they tighten the controls more. Overall, the demo is a thumbs up.
Edit: I can't get the orchestral music from the start screen out of my head. It really is awesome.

and i so agree with you ec0li, the ocherstral music is SO FREAKING AWESOME! i got 5.1 surround sound and i usually use my TV's speakers but ... for this game, this demo, i notched this up and turned the bass up a little bit ... HOLY FREAKING SHIT! sound is SO DETAILED. the smallest pinch that drops to your rear left is picked up quickly. man i hope this is not the final product, i want it to be much better.
my brother's at work, can't wait till he plays this game. and the controllers are very different than CoD4, but they're realistic in their own way =) and IMO, i like it better than CoD4.

Another thing to notice is that holding down the fire button on your machine guns is NOT a good idea. It tends to give a bit of pressure on Sev and it'll hover a bit upwards, much like military use or Real-Life combat. Firing a gun or machine-gun will send wave or waves of weight depending on how many bullets you fired. So you pretty much gotta fire like couple of rounds then let go for .5 seconds then do it again, something like that. I saw soldiers IRL doing that on videos and now I know why they do it.
You CAN switch between weapons if you are in middle of reloading!!! This was a bit let-down in the 2nd BETA around November and they finally added this feature. Awesome GG!

i was frustrated at the controls too but honestly one of the first things i do when i start a game is go to controller settings, if u do this u will find out that if u use "alternate 2" it is very similiar to COD so much so that aim is L1 and melee is R3. o sorry Ace just seen u posted that lol anyways!

Just a few thoughts on KZ1 since I just finishd it couple days ago(I'm no where near being tech savy, nor do know all the correct jargon, so here go's anyway)......
I liked KZ1 but it was damned glitchy at times.
Once in a while while hiding behind the wall a Helghan was standing at, his shot would go right through a solid wall & kill me. And just the same way, my shot would sometimes kill one of them behind a wall when it shouldn't have.
Throwing a grenade almost never, killed any of them, or even reached them, but their's always reached me for a perfect kill.
Sometimes when I sniped one of them dead, he'd then just lay there forever doing an x-box360( 360 degrees of Flailing Legs Syndrome) in what I can only describe as his own version of "dead man Laying), or forever doing what I like to call..."The Final IrishJib BreakDance of Death".
Also, once in a while I'd hide by a wall or a rock, and then I'd actually stay stuck to it for good, until I have to restart the whole level all over again.
For at least the first 1/3 of the game, when you killed a swarm of Helghan, more would respawn in the same area, then I'd kill them & more would respawn again at the same place(sometimes 2 times, sometimes 3).
Then, other time's I'd snipe one of them with a perfectly placed headshot, but it would do nothing more than irritate them like hearing a gnat by their ear, then they'd close in on me before I could even get switched over to my MP40.
There were also a few rips or tears, and see-throughs in some of the walls & other background items.
But my own personal #1 complaint was that a few of the "checkpoint" auto-save zones near the end, were way too damned far away, causing me to die a thousand horrible deaths, while only about 5 minutes away from completing that level(and have to start back at the very beginning again & again & again.)
But as in real life... "what can't defeat me, only makes me stronger"
I think that even with the glitches, KZ1 was still a damned good game overall though!!!!
