Tecmo Talks PS3, Quantum Theory
Tecmo tends to side with the console that offers the most raw power; they opted mostly for the Xbox in the last generation and are now focusing on a PlayStation 3 exclusive this generation. It's called Quantum Theory, and if you haven't heard of it yet, the details and info are right around the corner.
During a recent interview with Kikizo, Tecmo's Keisuke Kikuchi said they chose the PS3 simply because it "worked better" for the team's goals and interests. He also said the game shares some similarities with Epic's Gears of War franchise, but emphasized that Quantum Theory will also present gamers with a new experience. Regarding Sony's machine, Kikuchi said:
"Initially, the game concept was built around this game being a PC game... the project was altered slightly, and we tested out the graphics and visual presentation on the PS3. And looking at that, we were pretty confident that we were going to be able to display and execute what we wanted to using the power of the PS3."
Kikuchi added that the cover system found in the game will certainly remind you of Gears, but he also said the team is confident that they will deliver "something unique - both visually and gameplay-wise." And if you're wondering whether or not the action involved holds any semblance to Tecmo's critically acclaimed Ninja Gaiden series, the answer is (for the most part), "no."
"While strictly speaking this is a kind of third-person action game-shooter, the main play style skews towards the shooter side. We feel we've already been successful in executing action game elements, as in Ninja Gaiden. So it's mainly a third-person shooter."
Third-person shooters are big these days, but in order to compete with the likes of Gears and Uncharted, Quantum Theory is going to have to step up...big time. But our expectations are high, and if you want to learn more about it and see some new screenshots, check out the Tecmo interview.
