PS3 Does Not "Upscale" Old Software

Rumors have been a-swirling about whether or not the PS3 will make PS1 and PS2 games look better. According to IGN's recent tests, games like Resident Evil 2 looks basically the same on the PS3. And if you want to view those old games in HD, you'll be forced to change your aspect ratio from 16:9 to 4:3.

After checking Gran Turismo 4 for the PS2, they did confirm one of the Cross Media Bar features that enables the Sixaxis controller to emulate a DualShock. The game apparently did well with one race, and when pushing the resolution to 1080i, the PS3 recognized the change and readjusted the screen on its own. Of course, there's no "upscaling" of PS2 titles.

To be honest, we never believed there'd be any such "upscaling" considering the software itself is never altered. But at least the rumor is finally put to rest.
