PSXE Poll Update: Metal Gear Solid 4 Is The Chosen Favorite
Once again, we're a little surprised at the results of our weekly poll, but in retrospect, it may not be such a shock. After all, the most recent installment in any series - particularly if it's appropriately awesome - is foremost in our memories.
But whatever the reason(s), you have chosen your favorite Metal Gear Solid entry: and it's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots by a landslide. Initially, we figured it would come down to MGS4 and the original MGS, but Kojima's latest effort easily captured your hearts...as if that's any shock. It arguably features the best storyline in video game history, the characters are extremely well drawn, and of course, that fluid, more action-oriented gameplay worked beautifully. Many of the purists love to make a strong case for the original or either MGS2 or MGS3 but there are very few fans who will say MGS4 isn't deserving of all the praise it has received. The next poll is up, and we're continuing the trend: perhaps the next obvious step is to ask which Final Fantasy installment is your favorite. No, we're not including every last title in history that has Final Fantasy in the title, but all the significant installments are on the list. We figure this should be a relatively close battle, but we get the distinct feeling that FFVII will grab the win...
So cast your vote now and see which FF is the PSXE's reader's favorite. Afterwards, we'll think about doing polls on the best storylines, best graphics, best characters, etc, etc, etc. There are more than enough subjects to keep our polls going, and stay tuned for the return of the Best of the Best Polls, too.

FFVII was a good game, but I think it has achieved "legend" status, i.e. whenever you ask the average gamer which FF was the best, his answer will be FFVII, especially if he never played it.
Point: the odds are a bit stacked. I think the poll would yield more interesting results if FFVII was omitted from the list, if only to remove the obvious winner...
EDIT: Ace beat me! dangit...

My first Final Fantasy was FF1 on the NES. It was only my second RPG experience, after Dragon Warrior, also on the NES. Completed FF1 at lvl 31 on my 8th birthday. Oh Snapple Oldschool pwnt~
I have played all the numbered console FFs to completion.
I have played all the portable FFs to completion as well(Back in the day I played the FF games on my GB, have revisited the ones I missed through emulators on my PC)
I have owned each of the FF series on release here in Canada since FF7, not counting the Cellphone games. I refuse to own a Cellphone, otherwise I would probably have those notched down as well.
I voted FFXII as my favourite. I was a long term Everquest player (about 8 years from Beta) and I really connected with the MMO style of FFXII, not to mention the stunning presentation and depth of play. My order:
FFXII
FFVIII
FFX
FFIX
FFVII

As far as the Final Fantasies are concerned, FF7 all the way. It is the only reason I've played any of the FF games. I played the demo for FF7 on the disc that came with my PS1, and I fell in love with it. FFVII FTW!!!

Also did a similar thing with res4. My mate was that wound up that id never played the game, he bought it for me (was like I was getting told off at the time, lol). Think it was only 10 quid off amazon or somthing. He walked us through a few levels, explaining how it was "ment to be played" and left me to it. left it for a few months, then started properly on it just after christmas, man that game is good. Again, must have played through it about 3 times in a row....I think its those crazy japanese developers, they just seem to be able inject unbelievable amounts of depth and attention to detail in to their games. Im not sure I will look at games like COD in the samre light from now on (they have there own pedistal, but as far as depth goes, just not not the same).
I havent played any FF games, but I have a suspision I might have a similar shock. ..Which one do I start with guys;-)

One more thing, the line 'Snake had a hard life'nearly had me in tears, like when master yoda dies in ROTJ.
I'm not a RPG guy so i don't have an opinion on any FF games.
Off topic i got a brand new 60gig refurb for ZERO bucks,it was nearly 1 year out of warranty but i blagged my way through it,HUUURAY!!! i can play disc based games again.

If we say FF7 is the greatest FF, it is because it is the first 3D RPG and it sets the trend and direction of all 3D RPGs and it introduced a new looking of RPG gaming. Other than that, I dont find FF7 is that intriging. Chrono Trigger is way better in story and pure RPG elements -- nothing is more "RPG" than Chrono Trigger in my opinion.
