"Unlockable Mode" Headed To RE5?

Before we even get started, we have to remind everyone that there is no such thing as an "action-oriented gameplay mechanic" for Resident Evil 5 that will let you move while shooting. Capcom has confirmed that with us, and we have the final review build of the game, too. But something is coming, according to the upcoming March issue of PlayStation: The Official Magazine.

As UK site DarkZero pointed out, the RE5 review is in that issue, and downloadable content is coming soon after the game's launch. We're not entirely sure what that content is, but apparently, it includes some sort of "unlockable mode" for all the survival/horror fans out there. Here's the quote in question:

"The fun doesn't end when you complete RE5s main story-line. We're sworn to secrecy, but we've had a peek at an unlockable mode for forthcoming DLC, and it's awesome."

Now, we have to assume that if Capcom was planning nothing more than a series of new costumes or something, the magazine could've filled us in. But whatever this is, it's significant, and we're wondering what that new mode might be...perhaps it's nothing more than an extra mission or two, but even that would be appreciated. The other option, as this was in a PlayStation magazine, is that it could be exclusive DLC for the PS3 version of the game. That too seems unlikely, though, as Capcom's insistence on a multiplatform focus this generation hasn't wavered. Oh well, guess we'll just have to wait.

Oh, and if you're wondering, the review was a perfect 5/5. :)

There is no doubt that Capcom will milk this I.P. for all it is worth. It would be an intelligent move to keep this title alive well after its release... and what better way to do it then having DLC content and unlockable levels/missions to be had when the player completes the game...

I am not surprised in the 5/5 score... from the demo it likes like a solid game, solid engine and solid graphics... however I never saw any solid snakes around :) ...just a whole lot of zombies!

OffTopic: Is there any DLC for MGS4?

Q!

If it has something to do with the control scheme, I'll laugh.

Wonder what it is, though. Even I don't know. :\

If they're smart it will be something about the control scheme. Even though Im gonna buy as is, the tank controls are just about the only hurdle anyone sees in the game. If they offer a patch of some sort, its guaranteed to broaden sales!

Maybe its a timed mode like in COD5. Kill all the zombies before you get killed! ..........in 5min!

Or could be multiplayer, i dont know if it has a multipayer already, maybe like 16 players with 15 zombies on 1 guy, idk.

Awesome unlockable mode? Must be getting rid of the hot yet very annoying Sheva. I hate caring for a partner...

Im a little upset at the mandatory partner but you have to admit that the A.I. is a little more dependable than the average "random" gamer.

Has there been confirmation on a mercenaries mode. That IMO made RE4 replayable indefinitely. To leave it out would seem a little on the lame side.

you could be right,i think that to get a 25-30 hour story mode(first play through)they probably sacrificed the RE5 version of assignment ada.
They can't release the game without 'The mercenaries'so i bet they got rid of a side story(i hear it might invole H.U.N.K.)that would normally be unlocked after completion of the story mode.
Hopefully i'm wrong but if i'm right, this is why DVD sucks balls as of 2006 & ID makers of Doom, quake ect. have maxed out DVD on PC with their new game RAGE,which ships on two DVD"s on both PC & XBOX360.

co op 'the mercenaries' mode or 4 player 'the mercenaries'(2 teams of 2 against each other with loads of bad guys for everyone to deal with,eg.chris & sheva vs wesker & H.U.N.K. vs entire village.
Or maybe it will be a controls patch with walk & fire,if so they should call it 'noob control scheme A'

I've wanted exactly what you're describing for YEARS. The Mercenaries mode in RE4 was my favorite part of the game. Nothing more satisfying than an Albert Wesker brand Thrust Punch. Being able to do the same thing, but multiplayer... that would be incredible...

Sorry didnt see this but, but I totally agree with you guys. A 2 on 2 against "not-quite" zombies would be great.

It's one of them things like swapping the letter c for the letter b if you don't know don't worry it doesn't matter in the end anyway.

Remember the photos of Chris Redfield standing in front of Jill Valentines grave. What if they dont actually show or tell in the full game what actually happened to her? That is assuming she is really dead. So if they dont show it in the game maybe the downloadable content will. Who knows maybe the story explains it,if not then that would make perfect since.
