The Godfather II Slated For April 7
If you're a huge fan of sandbox style games, than you probably had a blast in 2008 with the likes of Grand Theft Auto IV and Saints Row 2. We won't see another installment in either franchise in 2009, but EA has you covered...and don't you dare "go against the family."
EA has revealed that The Godfather II will release on April 7 in North America and a few days later on April 10 in Europe. It will be available for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC, and although we had expected it to arrive this month (February 24), at least it's good to have a new official launch date. You know, the original really wasn't bad, and it appears that EA has worked hard to iron out the kinks and refine the formula for this sequel. Said executive producer, Hunter Smith:
"The Godfather II is taking the open-world genre in an entirely new direction by combining the furious combat of acting like a mobster, with the strategic gameplay of thinking like a Don. As game makers, when we looked at what lies at the heart of the Godfather universe, we discovered a game focused around organized crime. The Corleones and all the other families schemed and fought to gain access and control of different territories, so that they could control the flow of money in those areas. This underlying battle cloaked secrecy is what The Godfather II and mafia life is all about, and we wanted players to be in control as a Don and make those strategic decisions to lead their families to success."
This could be a solid open-world, freedom-oriented action title, and we urge you to consider a purchase if you're a fan of the genre. EA has given us some quality productions in the past few months and it seems as if they're really kicking things into high gear this generation. Let's hope The Godfather II lives up to expectations.

Anyhow the delay might give them time to polish it up a bit.
It seems Sony may be learning from previous marketing mistakes...

I'm not as upset as some about the move away from the movie-based characters in Godfather II. I just want an old-school gangster game that really represents next-gen potential. The last one was kinda fun for about 2 hours, while I was busy trying to take over my first family. After that, it got REALLY tasky, and repetitive. Hopefully, this one doesn't suck like that. I'm very skeptical, though...
