Dragon Quest IX Delay Could Push Back Final Fantasy XIII?

The latest report from the Square-Enix camp is that Dragon Quest IX has been delayed. ...we'll wait for a moment, because we're certain our readership will want to shed some tears over that (no offense to those who actually will). Anyway, the reason why this disaster is off interest to us is...

Well, according to IT Media, Yoichi Wada made mention of Final Fantasy XIII during his announcement that DQIX was getting pushed from March to July. And this really isn't the kind of mention you want. Check it out:

"The next term's schedule has been fixed yet. Presently, I cannot say what kind of effect we will experience from moving the Dragon Quest IX launch from March to July. I cannot say there won't be an effect. There is a possibility that Dragon Quest IX delay could effect Final Fantasy XIII."

Oh man, you gotta be kidding. Why should the DQIX delay have an adverse effect on FFXIII? Are they allocating resources in a certain way that would cause FFXIII to slip? The rumor now is that the hotly anticipated RPG may not hit Europe until 2011 at this point, and we might be lucky to see it in North America during the second half of 2010. Now, from what we've seen so far, we're impressed with the visuals and the gameplay potential, but we're hoping FFXIII doesn't start to entertain the dreaded "vaporware" label. ...all because of a DQIX delay? Really?

Yeah, some people are talking late 2010 for FFXIII and that's the earliest. It had better be as spectacular as Teri Hatcher's breasts (from that episode of Seinfeld) if it's taking this long.

They can't have Dragon Quest drop too early I guess and FF13 right around the corner so people will skip over it for FF (In japan of Course), and also it would give them time for the FF13 360 port.

From what I've heard, this sounds like mostly a business decision. They don't want to release their two blockbuster titles back-to-back (in Japan, anyway).

If that's the case then this might not even affect the NA release date for FFXIII at all.

Just like Arnold,i've also stopped carin' about FFXIII.U guys should stop puttin' up articles about it.

Seriously i didn't even KNOW Dragon Quest was around the corner.Ben,you really need to update us on DQ news rather than FFXIII which looks impossible to release.

Games done with sketches or cell shadin' is wat's good right now, like Eternal Sonata,Valkyria,Street Fighter IV heck i even wanna lay hands on that PERSONA 4 on ps2.
We gotta make do with Dragon Quest for now am sure it'll be great.

Lookin' forward to more news and updates on Dragon Quest, forget about FFXIII.

It doesnt matter when square-enix releases it. They have been putting out mediocre titles just to keep us hungry for the main cours. Final Fantasy is thier big project and its been a while since FFXII the longer we wait the better it should be unless the hype machine cuases us to think it sucks

The way PS3 owners have been treated by SE is nothing short of a disgrace. Originally they proudly trunpeted "only on PS3" for the FF13 duo of HD titles which, and this is cold hard fact, caused A LOT of people to get PS3's but then the MS chaques changed everything.
Not only would those FF fans who bought hardware on SE's words have a much longer wait now but also FF13 wouldn't be exclusive? Thanx SE for making people buy a console then buckling under when the cash showed up(I don't blame MS in this mess just SE as MS didn't promise people anything at all here), yeah thanx! Also there have been SE releases on EVERY other platform but PS3-after what they said it's out of order.
Now we find out everything gets put on hold in the west until they do the 360 port too! Priceless! So what's the last straw? Ih yeah people now DS releases take precedence over PS3 even in Japan just to add a bit more to the wait.
At this rate even Sony's "ten year plan" for the PS3 doesn't seem a sure way to know we'll ever play FF13 on it. Don't even talk about Versus as they could do this all over again with that yet because their treatment of us PS3 owners gets worse by the day because of their greed and desire to make shoddy UE3 RPG's for a market that , largely, doesn't exist!
Sorry for the rant-I'm not even a fan of SE or FF myself(played a few-they're ok)-but the way they treat us (esp those who bought things believing their words)is really poor and they need to know how we feel.

For some reason I just don't care anymore. While I don't doubt for one second that it will be a great RPG, Square just isn't the same. They are all about quantity nowadays.

Hah.
If it's anywhere near 2011 then... ... ... ...
It better be good.

I love Final Fantasy but Square-Enix keeps removing the hype from me with these smart 'business' acts. I'm at the stage of not awaiting this game at all.

I'm more looking forward to Versus XIII, how much delay is that going to get?????? Jesus LOL.

This article is somewhat disappointing to me, not because of the news itself, but because it was assumed the "effect" specifically meant delay when it wasn't clearly said it would delay FFXIII. If you ask me, I think the "effect" will be DBZ hair!

I don't even necessarily think that the assumption is unreasonable, but it's not very objective. It truly is possible that they want to delay DQIX to focus on FFXIII, but it also is possible that it could delay FFXIII instead. I think it's also very possible that the DQIX team can get it together without having to drag the FF team into their mess either and have a minimal effect on FFXIII. The point is that since they didn't say what kind of effect it will have, the article shouldn't really assume it means a delay so blatantly.

Funny you should write this because I was about to write the same thing.

Shepherd is jumping the gun or clearly needs to polish his comprehension skills. Whenever I read anything by Shepherd, he just blatantly writes something completely wrong or out there that gets me scrathing my head................ and I don't have dandruff!

Nowhere in Wada's statement do I read this might have an adverse effect on FFXIII. Shepherd inserted that nugget in there all on his own. S-E has said FFXIII will come out in 2009 in Japan, just not when.

With the delay of DQ until July 2009, maybe S-E pushes up the Japanese PS3 release of FFXIII to earlier in the year to make up for the DQ delay. Or maybe not!

But there is no reason to get the war drums beating just yet Shepherd, not until we know for sure one way or the other.

By the way, did you hear that Square Enix is buying Eidos Interactive? I guess all of Microsoft's dirty money came in handy. At least the PS3 hasn't been subjected to SE's mediocre Xbox 360 offerings. The PS3 got Eternal Sonata, Disgaea 3 and Valkyria Chronicles in 2008 and is set to receive Tales Of Vesperia in 2009. Then there's Persona 4. The better RPGs are still on the PS3. If they can't publish a solid title on the 360, I'm scared to see what they deliver on the more sophisticated PS3.

Yeah I guess the "effect" wasn't clear but any time they mention FFXIII it is bad news. I'm putting it out of my head now too, I'll still get it of course but not until it finally releases so far into the future that it will be a last gen game.

Honestly, why is SE even worried about all this, a DS title can't take that much effort when you stack it up against the kind of work that goes into a game like FFXIII. So, is this game going to get the prize for taking the longest to finish?

Why is a worthless DS game getting delayed anyways? Did they cut the development team from 5 people down to 4? You know, they could probably just release the game unfinished and 95% of their target audience would never notice.

First it was delayed because of the Xbox nerds whining "we want it too, let us have it or our leader will just steal it.." And now nintendo is gonna punk us out.. really? Nintendo.. Its bulls**t that PS3 isnt getting DQIX anyway.. but now we have to wait on the biggest of all losers? = The "we don't need graffics" people.. That seems to be the way of the world these days..
