More Info Found For Dante's Inferno

At first, we were a little apprehensive about a game based on Dante Alighieri's "The Divine Comedy." But after acquiring plenty of new information, and hearing from EA that it's best described as "God of War meets Dead Space in hell," we have to admit to being intrigued. And now, more details have been uncovered, courtesy of PSU.

First of all, as you can see right at the top there, the game will run at what should be a silky smooth 60 frames per second, and not surprisingly, Dante will take the form of a powerful "knight with magic powers." In the book, he's merely a human man attempting to traverse the untraversable, but that just won't do for an action-oriented video game, right? And as he is fighting to save the love of his past life, Beatrice, it makes perfect sense that EA would turn him into a knight. The next detail is interesting, because it shows that the first boss battle (you fight Death himself) takes place in Limbo, which is occupied by the faithless souls who have yet to believe in God. Yep, Limbo is the first Circle of the Nine Circles of Hell, so EA is following along accurately in that respect, and furthermore, they have an experienced artist on hand to recreate the horrendous images. It's Wayne Barlowe, who has produced Barlowe's Inferno, a collection of his images based on "The Divine Comedy." All of these represent more reasons why we're now excited to see the end result...the fact that it controls just like God of War only adds to the appeal, in our opinion.

Next up, we're hoping for an estimated release date. Although there are plenty of amazing titles on tap for 2009, something like Dante's Inferno could become one of those unexpected gems.
