God Of War III Confirmed For 2009?

Before anybody gets too excited, this isn't an exact confirmation; we're merely relaying the information we've just received from Sony and interpreting the words within the release.

SCEA has sent out a press release announcing Killzone 2 as the leader of the pack for this year's 2009 PlayStation 3 blockbusters. As part of the announcement, SCEA confirmed that a new TV advertising campaign would kick off this week; it's called the "Bullet" commercial, and they say the "new ad was rendered entirely in-engine via the incredible power of the Killzone 2 engine and PS3 technology to preserve the unique visual and epic gameplay experience." Said the game's Managing Director, Hermen Hulst:

"Every single frame of this commercial was directly rendered on a PS3 without the need for additional tweaking or touching up. We're very proud that our game engine technology has reached the point where we don't have to resort to software pre-rendering. In that regard it is a testament to our commitment to deliver on what we promise. What you see is what you get."

But that may not be the most interesting part of the release. In addition to this KZ2 advertising announcement, there's a comment that involves the upcoming list of awesome PS3 exclusives. Now, they're referring to 2009, so...

"The game [Killzone 2] ushers in an unprecedented year of titles to hit the PlayStation platform throughout the year including the blockbuster exclusives Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, inFamous, MAG, Heavy Rain, God of War III and MLB 09 The Show.

Do you see God of War III in that list? We do. The others, with the possible exception of MAG, aren't exactly surprising and we figured they would all arrive in 2009. But the latest assumption is that GoWIII wouldn't drop until early next year; probably March. Does this mean Kratos' final - and likely most amazing - adventure will be available for this year's holiday season...?

You should buy GoW 1 & 2 you can get them both used at gamestop for under $30 bucks II have to finish GoW 2 before GoW 3 releases.

I just watched an interview with the Santa Monica team and the art directer and lead programmer started working on the God of War 3 engine in March 2005. They have been working on that engine for four years. The game itself for at least two.

I think that makes a 2009 launch plausible don't you?

yes i seen this go up all over the web this morning im glad u guys are on top of it cus i was posting links like crazy anyways this is good news i hope GOW3 comes out this year, assuming its done right, i dont think they'd let this one release just to get it out early though, they'll make sure its tip top before we play it!

The KZ2 ad is pretty sweet im drooling already, and i havnt even seen it in HD yet!

I hope it does but if they release them all too early and "right after the other" like last year then there going to see dissapointing sales. Unless, they bring down the price. Either way, Sony's going to see positive results, either moderately or massive.

Well guys, well all know what God of War is, we know what Uncharted is..

But WTF is MAG? Last year when it was "unveiled", it was just a video of hundreds of soldiers. That's it.

I want MAG details. I'm not even a big military shooter fan, I just wanna know what exactly what MAG's all about other than looking insanely ambitious.

They say there's going to be as many as 150+ soldiers on the same battlefield at once. This is really all we know right now.

as for MAG, it's gonna be a pass if it comes with a subscription fee. $60 for the game is expensive enough, you're not gonna get any more cash out of me unless you're Burnout or Warhawk ^_^

Zipper didn't give up Socom, they let Slant Six do Socom Confrontation while they were developing MAG. I got Confrontation on day one and it was pretty rocky. After a few updates it got better but never grabbed me like Socom 1 or 2 did. Hopefully when Zipper returns to do Socom 4 the franchise gets back that oompf it lost. But I'm definitely interested in MAG and think it will be free also, Socom & Warhawk are both online only games and are free.

I have not play God Of War 1 or 2 but i have seen all the videos on youtube and i am going 2 get God Of War 3. Also MAG looks amazing, even though there sin't any gameplay yet i'm hoping its the next COD4

I just purchased GoW 1 and 2 today, will start playing later tonight.
MAG from what i have understoood of the little articles about it, is it's a online only game, i have read taht we may have to pay a fee to play it through the publisher still in talks and you can play with 256 multiplayer online. I have found a sept 2008 article possible based on this game. ITs very vag due to no info anywhere about this game, since last yr's E3.

Sony is publishing MAG so there is no discussion with the publisher...

... unless Sony management is talking to itself now.

Also, I'd wager that Sony will NOT charge a fee for any of its upcoming MMOs (MAG, The Agency, DC Universe Online) on the PS3 because that mitigates its edge over Xbox Live.

I'm personally disappointed by the list- I'm an RPG gamer and so far the quality and availabilty of RPGS (especially Japanese ones) on the PS3 has been depressing. I cannot understand why Japanese game developers are putting all their RPGs on the xbox360- why not on the PS3 also? Also square enix hasn't released a single game for the PS3 (despite the fact that the PS3 is now in its third year).

I saw the Bullet commercial and I thought it was cool but too brief. Though I know a lot of people who would be watching that ad till it finishes just to see where that bullet goes =D

But I know that nobody offline will know that the footage was raw PS3 power.

Plus, I'm really exited to see how MAG will work.

Doubt that it mag,heavy rain,gow3 will all be out this year. Maybe 2 of them will make it. I guess the only way to find out is if sony announces 3 new titles 4 next year shedding some light on whats 2 be expected in 2010. Cant wait 4 the new announcement.

Wow, GOW ]I[ this year - that's great news!! We'll see..
Btw. do you people really believe that it will be THE LAST of the series? I don't. This game is soooo neded and wanted by gamers that they won't let it die. And having about a year of time, developers will surely think to make story to have a "open ending" for No. 4:)) Just see what is with MGS4. Kojima said that it will be the last, but not long ago we hear from him that he has some new ideas and "that Jack's (Big Boss) story is still open"...
Or the LoK:Soul Reaver - it supposed to be one title but it spreaded to three and the last one - Defiance didn't bring any proper ending. Although Crystal Dynamics is no more, I'm still hoping for a last sequel for that one-of-the-best-stories game.
To summrize - GoW3 won't be the last... I'm telling ya:)

They don't need an open ending, they already have a way to make more GoW games. The trilogy is happening at the end of 10 years of Kratos' service to the Gods. There's 10 years of time to explore there, in fact that's what they did with Chains of Olympus.

it's been comfirmed that MAG and GOW 3 are coming this year according to G4. I'm so excited, now all we need now is a sure prediction that GT5 is coming this year. So come on SONY make my year even better announce GT5 for 2009.
