Codemasters Unveils Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising
Don't look now, but perhaps another contender for FPS of the Year has just been announced: it's Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising by Codemasters, scheduled to launch for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC this summer.
According to the press release, Dragon Rising is "set to deliver the most accessible, engaging and visceral sandbox shooter of the year," and it's all thanks to an "evolved variant of the EGO Engine," which the studio used in games like Colin McRae: DiRT and GRID. If you're wondering how an engine built for racing games will translate to the FPS world, here's what Flashpoint Senior Producer Brant Nicholas had to say:
"The advantage of investing in our own technology is that we can custom-build major engine components specifically suited to each title; such as dynamically lit particle effects for gunfire and explosions, incredible vehicle detail and extensive worlds that you can literally get lost in.
Everything that the EGO Engine does adds to the experience and tension of being in a serious conflict situation where one shot can kill. Using the engines rendering tech and customised audio systems, we can make players feel the danger and adrenaline rush of modern combat, immersing them in the battle as deeply as possible."
They've already released plenty of cool media, including 30 in-game screenshots and a video; check 'em out at the upcoming game's official website. You will be fighting "against the full force of the Chinese PLA on the huge open-world island of Skira," and really, this is one shooter that holds a ton of promise. We'll be looking forward to hearing more about it very soon.

II II II II II II II II II II II
Dude, Please cease and desist, it is driving me nuckin futs! Try commas, periods, and single letters please?
We understand that you are texting on a mobile device, but the extra letter is really annoying!
Please, please, please be civil and stop. We are all adults here (Well, most of us anyway), and my brain keeps seeing the numeral 2 instead of "I" in your comments.
I am not trying to attack you, I am respectfully requesting that you please use a singular character for the word "I".
Thank you for being considerate.
To everyone else, I am now ready for the flaming to begin, and I apologize for being so off topic and hijacking the post. I have been a lurker for years and a poster for a while.
Sorry for the rant.
I am done now, and I hope that Comptons_Finest will respect other posters here and stop the "II" business. There have been a lot of requests for this action to stop.

The screen shot featured here looks incredibly detailed... this is a challenge to the Killzone 2 engine I think... it looks that good!
Going to keep an eye out for this one!

I know you are right, and lord knows I am old enough to ignore ignorance, but for some reason it bugs the crap out of me escpecially after seeing all the requests for him/her to stop.
Gonna have to have a few brews after work to mellow I guess. A romp would be good too, but I got a killer head cold so that will have to wait 'till later. ; }
Back on Topic; This game does look stellar. I hope for a demo in the near future.
