Square-Enix Confirms E3 Attendance

Well, it has been confirmed that Square-Enix will be attending E3 this year. This could mean something...it could mean nothing.

But one of the common rumors that has been circulating - perpetuated by FinalFantasyUnion - is that they'll reveal the newest title in their ongoing FFVII Compilation series. We're still trying to forget games like Dirge of Cerberus, but on the other hand, titles like Crisis Core make us very hopeful for the future. As for the possibility of that never-say-die Final Fantasy VII PlayStation 3 remake, we're going to say it again: it's not a possibility. There's less evidence of that than there ever has been before, and perhaps unfortunately, with Square-Enix's obvious Western push, any announcement may involve the Xbox 360. Look at Star Ocean: The Last Hope, releasing this week...and not for the PS3. Then there's The Last Remnant, and we all know the situation there. The bottom line is that while we always like to hear what Square-Enix has planned, the time is gone where PlayStation owners can expect special treatment.

Anyway, we have no idea what kind of impact S-E will have on E3. Maybe they'll just show off a few more DS and iPhone projects or something, and they'll escape notice. Or maybe they'll issue a North American release date for FFXIII. Who knows?

Unfortunately... When I hear SE is going to announce something I immediately expect something bad. I like the whole look away and it will never happen approach. If something good does come up from this I will find out later and be pleasantly surprised.

@RISE_13 I highly doubt they will leave 360 out. I got a feeling that the ps3 version of ffxiii will be delayed because of M$ payed for time exclusive.

I'm not worried about the announcement. The only think that would really piss me off would be if they made Versus XIII multiplatform, not because I want to be a greedy fanboy, but because it's just so dishonest to say "exclusive to [insert platform]" for YEARS and then say "...just kidding" at last second (figuratively speaking). I don't really think they would do that with Versus XIII just because doing it with XIII caused enough of an uproar. I'm always down for non-negative (negative meaning delays, cancellations, etc) news from SE.

Why wouldn't they attend? For a company like S-E, attending E3 is par for the course. That doesn't mean they're necessarily announcing anything. We'll probably see some new trailers, though.

At this year's E3, S-E will announce the 1st and 3rd person shooters their American division is working on (XBox360 exclusives).

And they will announce that FF13 Versus will be multi-plat and will not release until the 360 version is done.

Ok im trying to understand.

I get the whole western expansion thing which most business do by acquiring other businesses (Eidos) cause it's cheaper then going in and setting up from scratch, still requires lotsa money though. So they go and open up development to M$ to increase profits. Basic economics really.

But what has lead to the seemingly absolute snobbery of the PS3? What has soured the Sony-$E relationship? There's obviously something going on we dont know about but what i wonder. Perhaps we're just getting our just desserts as Nintendo gamers got in the 90s...i dont know really.

Maybe its due to Microsoft constantly shelling out money, and SE expects Sony to do the same, only to find that Sony isn't willing to shell out cash as easy as Microsoft does.

Or maybe Kaz Hirai slept with the SE President's wife and this is their way of getting back at Sony.

I'd forgive them if they releasesd Star Ocean on the PS3, well not fully forgive them but i wouldnt be so pissed off, i mean come on, the main reason i chose a PS3 was for exlcusives like MGS4, Tekken, FF13.......but now they're on the 360 i feel a bit cheated. but aslong as they make FF13/vs13 into fantastic titles i wont mind, i just hope im not let down.

i'm on the same page with ultimadream. but now, it seems like if u are a fan of square enix. u need to side with the xbox.

now is this going to be continuous or temporary?
would SE 'only' support microsoft's consoles even in the future?

i also wonder what the japanese gamers are saying about this situation. also SE is releasing FF13 exclusive to ps3 only in japan right? while multiplatform in N.America and Europe? what's up with that?

Because the 360 audience is so small in japan releasing it there would have only piss of the fans loosing an bigger audience than 360 sales could make up.

hope they say something good cuz there really using us. they KNOW that FF13 is going to sell, even if they treat their consumers like thrash. and the 360 owners are like "hey S-E is giving us some sweet Jap games! cool." i dont see any of my 360 friends excited over star ocean.

really, who cares what they do?

its been what, 7 years since the last final fantasy game?

sure, the screens for ff13 look great, but why the delay? look at uncharted. since ff12, uncharted was developed as a new IP, came out, looked great, was recieved well, a sequel was planned, developed, and now will get released. and in the end, i bet i (and most people in here) will have more fun with the uncharted series than ff13.

im sorry to say it ben... but the days of the jrpg might be... over?

Its funny to me. I'd actually feel better if Microsoft went ahead and annouced it was bought by Microsoft. That way they don't keep stringing us along like dogs on a leash. Its unethical and annoying, and based on how many exclusives they've released for the 360, you might as well say that M$ owns them.

SquareSoft could have leveled my house, stolen all my money, and kidnapped my family and I still would have come crawling back to them thinking they could do no wrong. Now SquareEnix spends more time plugging the ds and 360 and I don't think I'll crawl back if FF13 doesnt blow my mind.

The announcement is FFVII Remake for xbox 360

imagine... but seriously if it isn't Kingdom Hearts III, I will be so dissapointed as I've been for the past 2 years with the tokyo game show. I don't care if they put it on the 360 and wii I just want a new entry and I don't have a handheld system.
