Daily Momentous Event: We Saw A Killzone 2 TV Commercial
No, seriously. Hand to God. I did. Not 15 minutes ago, I watched in fascination as a maximum-hyped PlayStation 3 exclusive was advertised on the magic box that displays pictures from all over the world. ...yeah, I was surprised, too.
Earlier this month, Sony swore that Killzone 2 would have a massive advertising budget and we'd be seeing the game every time we blinked. As far as I can tell, this so-called marketing blitz hasn't really happened - at least so far as TV ads are concerned - and I was happy to see this one today. If you haven't laid eyes on it yet, it's kinda similar to Korn's "Freak on a Leash" music video; if you've seen it, you know exactly what to expect. A single bullet in slow-mo flies across an uproarious battlefield, eventually zoning in on one target. In all honesty, I think it would've rocked to have actually had "Freak on a Leash" as the background music; how bad-ass would that be? As it stands, the commercial is pretty good, although Sony continues to focus more on the artistic than the in-your-face with their worldwide ads. I keep thinking people will remember the ad, but they may not remember the name of the game...which of course is the cardinal sin of advertising. We'll see.
This commercial should've been in active circulation three weeks ago, but hey, at least it's here for the week of the game's launch. Now, they just need to up the frequency; I saw way more MGS4 and GTAIV commercials on TV during their launch periods, so let's step it up, Sony!

to return to the topic, i've seen 3 ads i think on UK tv. 2 of those were the same ad last week, and I saw what looked like a new one yesterday. Still not good enough though

"War. Perfected."
I thought that was good.
Joystiq wrote that there's some kind of Killzone 2 web game, where Helghans appear on whatever website you're viewing and you shoot them down. Seemed pretty cool.

For all those that don't know the end of the demo has some game play footage, a nice classical sounding melody playing, and review quotes and scores and it is just fantastic to give you a feel of what the game is and what it is about.

@Frenchy - Thanks, that's exactly what I meant, TO ME it doesn't feel like that commercial will make people want to go out and get it. Maybe if they woulda have put "This is REAL TIME" before the commercial, then everyone would understand.
And how does that show how good the gameplay is?
If someone showed me the scene of Raiden and Vamp fighting hand-to-hand (it's all done with the in-game engine), I would think MGS4 is all about that, it doesn't show how good gameplay is at all. It might be rendered in real-time, but it's just a video, not of actual gameplay.
I'm sorry if I ever come off as "hating", I guess I'm just jaded, I've been playing games for a very long time. I don't think I have ever really insulted anyone though, so relax, it's just an opinion.
And I'm not always gonna be praising Sony just because. I love my PS3 and own every Sony system, but I wont take their word as gospel either.
@Gogaku - Exactly what he said.

1) Name Recognition - Plenty of people will buy the game simply because it says "Halo" on the box.
2) Fanboyism - Most Xbots would LOVE to be able to brag that Halo Wars outsold KZ2. Buying a copy is just their way of cheering for their team.
Honestly, come Friday, I'll be too busy slaughtering Helghans to care.

Hell, over 70% of Germany´s population is mature, just broadcast spots like this after ten, when every minor is in bed (lol)
Whatever, I´ll move to Vancouver in two or three years with my wife.

I do recall being desensitized to the nudity after a while though. "Oh, geez, another 911 911 commercial!" Who the hell is Theresa Orlowski anyway? lol
Still, first time I saw a set of tits in an ice cream commercial I was like, "I love this country!"

I've only seen the ad once, and I TiVo all the genre shows out there and several of the top nongenre shows.
Anyway, the good news is that I was in Book Off in Manhattan yesterday looking through their used PS2 imports (picked up eight games for about $90) and overheard two women talking.
One said she should pick up the PS3 so her son would have both the 360 and PS3. The other woman, who has a PS3, encouraged her to do so and pick up Killzone 2.
Of course, I had to concur with her and proferred my own opinion, agreeing with her that K2 is awesome. She, in turn, said everyone in her office has preordered the game.
Anyway, on a related note, I read somewhere that the K2 bullet commercial will be available as a "playable" PSN download, meaning we'll be able to control the camera, panning and zooming.
Sony wants to prove the commerical was real-time footage.
