Retailers Breaking KZ2 Street Date?

Maybe they're all just thinking, "eh, it's only one day...what difference does it make?"

Evidence has been coming in from all around the Internet that several major retailers in North America have broken the February 27 street date for Killzone 2. Now, if you're a little out of it and aren't quite sure of the day, February 27 is the day after tomorrow, not today. Even so, Target is apparently selling the game at multiple store locations nationwide, as reported by PS3Center. Then we have whispers that some Wal-Mart stores have done the same thing, although we can't verify any of those claims with visual evidence. Essentially, if you absolutely need KZ2 a day sooner, and you've got nothing to do today (the economy may have seen to that), we suggest checking some big chain stores nearby. Just don't bother with GameStop; there's no chance in hell they're going to break the street date. I worked there for a while, and I remember the insanely steep consequences if we did that; if we even sold a single solitary copy an hour before the street date. So just try Target, Wal-Mart, and maybe Best Buy...

You're not doing anything wrong if you buy it today; it's the retailer's fault. Some giant corporation isn't going to slap you with a giant fine and pissed-off reprimand. Oh, and if you want that demo code, we still have about 8 left if you want to sign up for the forums and contribute to our community. Leave a sentence or two explaining why you want to try it, and your e-mail address in this thread.

I saw KZ2 on the shelf at Walmart, but when the guy at the register rang it up an alarm sounded; completely ruined my day.

I pre-ordered at Best Buy months ago and thought I'd stop by there tomorrow(Thurs 2/26...lol)after work to see if they'd sell it early. Maybe I'll have a chance now. On second thought I think I'll go out at lunch and see what happens. You never know.

A guy in my clan picked this game up last Saturday at a major retailer in his area. He's loving the different levels but said so far, without being able to play on-line, his favorite part is playing the different maps against bots. In his words this game blows Cod4, Cod w@w, and Socom away.

@Banky A - Random Steve probably is under the age of 17.

I still think the worldwide release date should be the same for everybody. Anyway, my mindset has had the game's release date as February 27 for a long time so it's no big deal. I was told that I could pick it up first thing in the morning Friday.

Of course, KZ2 is just my dessert and occasional snack. It's MLB 2009 that is going to represent breakfast, lunch and dinner in March and beyond.

Um docpain pc prices are pretty damn low, for the price of a ps3 you can get a gaming pc. Also anyone that argues in favor of console controls over a mouse and keyboard in regards to 1st person shooters is in the minority. 1st person shooters just like an RTS (halo wars) are dumbed down for consoles.

-auto aim
-easier difficulty
-less enemies on screen
-less available human opponents during online play

Well, count me in the minority there, chap. Trying to move AND aim on a 6" x 8" mousepad is just ludicrous. I'm sure if you've been doing it for years, then it's all good. But, I can't see anyone new to FPSs choosing a mouse and keyboard over a control pad. Move, aim, shoot, switch weapons, pause, jump, zoom, duck, strafe, cover...all I have to do is wiggle a finger. How is a mouse and keyboard better than that? People who prefer mouse and keyboard for FPS are dinosaurs.

Go play Crysis on your gaming PC that costs less than a PS3.

Oh? What?

One hand dedicated for the arrow keys, another hand for the mousr to aim...a console owner only needs their thumbs to execute the same function...

I have a gaming PC and you constantly need to change video cards, power supplies, processors, sound cards...for $400, you will have a gaming pc but will only be able to run crysis on medium settings at best...not to mention some pc-only gamers play on their HD-less 19" monitors..not sure how it is in other games, but in cod4 you need to install 3rd party apps just to have a friends list...also, on pc you have way more glitchers and hackers hacking everything...i just use my gaming PC for some ripped game torrents...

All pc gamers use the same line when bashing consoles, "auto aim, easier difficulty"....these same people cannot handle the thumb sticks which is why they are pc gamers in the first place but they complain about it being so easy and having auto aim...go figure

No pc-only gamer can handle the thumbsticks on a controller, thats a fact

Ummm... any PC less than $600 is a granny/office PC that CAN NOT be considered for gaming purposes. I happily paid $1800 to build my GAMING PC back in June of '08. It has no problem with playing any game on the market. I don't play many FPS's on it because I don't have 10 hands to work the keyboard. You would be EXTREMELY lucky to find a $400 PC that could play Crysis at a low resolution at the lowest settings. PS3 games are ALWAYS in high-def. EDIT: Where are these console games with auto aim? Know what you're talking about before you make stupid comments!

Sorry, sometimes I get a little pissed.

The PS3 is updated by firmware (free). PC's need to be updated with expensive peripherals constantly. So if you can find a PC thats cheaper than the PS3, within 2 years, chances are you will spend A LOT more than the PS3.

See that is what I don't get, a majority of people already own pcs. If you want to make them perform better you simply add a few things and walla. You make it sound like in order to play a game on pc the gamer has to invest thousands of dollars, thats bullshit. A PC does so many other things than play games, if you want to game on it simply add a few extra products (ram/graphics card) and you're set. To play Crysis I use a video card that cost 150 and added 2 gigs of ram to make 4gigs for under 60 dollars. How is that spending a grand?

Troy Powers a gaming mouse on a mousepad moves way faster than your thumb on a joystick. I understand there are those that enjoy 1st person shooters on consoles, I just hope you realize you're getting a dumbed/watered down version of a more complex/complete game on PCs. Plus an infinite supply of DLC for FREE from both the developer and regular gamers.

docpain I'm an avid PC gamer along with console gaming. I avg a new pc every 5 years (build my own) and I often keep previous parts to add towards the build of a new one. I've never gone above 1k when doing these builds nor were they necessary to keep up with gaming. I agree it has been a chore to play anything other than 1st person shooters until recently (I picked up a 360 controller and it works great for games that should be used with a controller).

I should have never made my original comment, I apologize for the can I've opened up. I understand this is a ps3 forum and I love the ps3 for everything but 1st person shooters, a big reason I hate the 360.

Well, I beta tested both. I'm not creative at all, so I wasn't really into LBP. If I was good at creating levels and stuff, I'm sure I'd love it. It was fun, but I just felt like I was missing a big part of it because I lack the creative juices to really take advantage of all it has to offer.

KZ2 I thought was just spectacular. Loved the class system and the way you can mix abilities of different classes. Loved the gameplay, loved the graphics. I just loved it to pieces. And this is coming from someone who thought CoD4 was "meh." For me, personally, it's no contest.

Yeah, if you're a creative type, then it's a tough decision. In LBP you get to let your creative juices flow, which gives you endless possibilities. On the other hand, I truly believe KZ2 is the best shooter ever. But, on the third hand (yes, I have three) it's still a shooter. You've played them before. LBP is a whole new animal.

I'd still say go with KZ2 cuz it's awesome, and you might be able to find LBP in a bargain bin somewhere soon. Even if you don't, you've waited this long, what's one more month? It'll probably eat you up inside reading everyone rave about KZ2 and you're playing LBP.

Besides, if you loved CoD4, you'll cream yourself over Killzone. Better graphics. More game modes. Better class system. Pure online awesomeness.

So, do you want an improvement on something you already know and love, or something brand new and innovative? Sounds like either way you can't go wrong.

I wouldn't say Crysis is complete junk past the graphics but I'd like to point out the biggest thing Killzone2 has going for it is the graphics. My comment about "dumbed down" was referring to games on both consoles and PCs, I highly doubt a pc version of Killzone 2 will ever come out but if it did like every other pc/console game everything would be better on the PC thus proving my point.

"I'd like to point out the biggest thing Killzone2 has going for it is the graphics."

Correction: The MOST APPARENT thing that KZ2 has going for it is graphics. The BIGGEST thing is excellent online play, class system, sound, and all the other points that were applauded in just about every review.

LBP is selling extremely well by any reasonable standard; it doesn't NEED sales.

Hell, it's sold WAY more copies than KZ2 (though that probably won't be true in a few weeks).

@ Geobaldi

Have you actually played both games or are you just offering an uninformed opinion?

p.s. LBP is fun, despite its imprecise controls (let ME decide when I want to switch to a different plane of depth, dammit!).

I just came back from Best Buy, they didnt even have the Skold Vs KMFDM CD and no early copies of Killzone 2. I can wait :)

On this whole PC vs Console rabbling going on; worlds apart my friends. Not just with the controls(no strafe dancing on consoles yay!) but stuff like MODDING and the like. So its hardly comparable. Killzone 2 is the answer to the vibe you get from PC FPS games but on a console. It can be done just give it a whirl!

@www LBP is awesome most people dont realize or think its for kids entirely wrong its for the creative mind, and its downright enjoyable! but i think u gotta go with KZ2 to be honest! the game has everything we as PS3 owners have wanted for awhile so...
maybe didnt answer your question with a good anology but lol... anyways yea well i posted yesterday that my buddy seen at wal-mart they had it on the shelves but the comp. wouldnt let em ring it up i asked him today and they took it doen, now r they dumb enough to put it in the comp, then put it back on shelves today idk? and i just called my local wal-mart and they have it but they are being reluctant to let it go im pushing them but its not working lol... friday it is!
@limited vertigo my buddy owns a computer store does the online tournaments and stuff and he envies the fact that i can use a controller he only plays on pc and rock band on the consoles but he openly admits he'd use sticks if he could, cus the controller is more accesible to the hand, he just cant use sticks lol! anyways i know u gave up the argument to an extent but there are pc gamers out there that want what we have!

LimitedVertigo: Your argument seems best suited for the '90s.

I've noticed that PC fans keep using that argument of "dumbed down" long after it has ceased to be viable, and it could be because the there hasn't been a single solitary piece of great PC software that isn't yet another carbon copy of Half-Life, Command & Conquer, or Baldurs Gate...in the past decade.

Furthermore, you can't really get a decent gaming PC for the price of a PlayStation 3, nor is it preferable to play the best games available on a PC. Those days are gone. Most have already acknowledged this.

in ninety days the ps3 will havea new peripheral for FPS it includes a mouse with buttons on the left side for easy thumb access and the controller looks like a wii mote but has your d-pad a stick and looks like its via usb so no wireless? maybe it'll be used like the rock band guitar? none the less now u cant bash on the FPS being better on pc ur argument is dismissed, but am i wrong couldnt u use a mouse and keyboard with the ps3 anyways to end the argument that could have been said too! I refuse to believe that Ben. I've logged far more enjoyable hours playing 1st person shooters on my PC than on any console. A perfect example would be Left4Dead which gives me countless hours each week playing with my friends. My friends that have it on 360 complain about all the lame people ruining the game online and the auto aiming that makes them feel like they hardly have to do anything to get a kill and they regret the purchase since I will continue to get free updates as well as mods and such to keep the game alive. My argument was simply based on one genre of gaming (1st person shooters) I log many hours on consoles for anything other than 1st person shooters.

In regards to your comment on the price of"gaming Pcs" as I've mentioned before most people already own a pc to equip it for gaming you could easily put in it items that in total cost less than a PS3

If you're only talking about FPSs, that's fine. But that really only reinforces my point: HAS there been a piece of quality PC software in the past DECADE that didn't fall into the FPS, RTS, or Western RPG category...? Look, there's just no innovation on that platform; it died a long time ago in most gamers' eyes. Crysis, and apparently, Crysis ONLY, doesn't cut it.

Having a PlayStation 3 gives you access to a far greater variety of quality games, and if you own more than one console, the gap only gets wider. From GoWIII to Uncharted to FFXIII... I can see of no real argument to support a gaming PC these days. None whatsoever.

I side with LimitedVertigo. I've been a console player since the original Atari days and almost every console since then, except the Microsoft systems. But I have to say that other than the Super Nintendo, no system has given me more joy than my PC over the years. From the Sam & Max series that's still going on, to Sins of a Solar Empire which is one if the the best RTS available though Dawn of War 2 will give that one a good fight, The Witcher was great though it looks like consoles will finally get to try that gem, The Rollercoaster Tycoon series, The Sims and all those expansions, Vampire: The Masquerade Bloodlines, American McGee's Alice, the Diablo series, EVE, Hellgate: London, and many others that came out within the last decade. I will always be a primarily PC gamer than a console player but each serves their own purposes. It all depends what I'm in the mood for. To each his own.

"To each his own".

This would be true, if everyone could afford it. But let me ask you this. After spending thousands on a pc and upgrading it over the years, and your console(s), and game library, how willing are you to spend a grand or more for an HDTV? If so, the majority of consumers simply don't have the budget that you do.

Since console games are designed and marketed for a much larger audience, games for consoles are designed typically with much larger budgets and can be afforded more production values, game design and so forth. And due to accelerating hardware advances, and the plateauing of what designer and dev's can push out of shared graphic engines of increasingly shorter dev cycle schedules, consoles games are not only more accessible, but have caught on.

Personally, I'm a person of simple tastes. I'll be happy with a couple games that are my favorite, and I'll play for years. So even though I can afford a highend pc, all the consoles, and an HDTV, the games that happen to be my favorite are on the ps3. And it gives me the most bang for my buck, too.

Also most of my games are Multiplat games that also have PC counterparts: Fallout 3, Far Cry 2, and I hear there is a PC version of SF IV. So get used to sharing PC guy...

Star Craft 2 is really your saving grace, I'm sure that one is not coming to consoles. On the topic of Blizzard, MMOs seem to be what dominates the PC market. I walk in a net-cafe all I see are screens full of Warhammer Online and WOW. These people are in the same room mind you!

I agree with you about the RTS', until they perfect the voice command system..lol.In all honesty though Vertigo, PC gaming used to be the thing to do when gaming was concerned,(Doom LAN Parties anyone?), but as gaming has gone mainstream, PC's have taken more of a back seat. Look at Computer ads that you see, they aren't about gaming, they're about photo and video editing, graphic design..etc, You use a PC now to create a video game and then sell that game on...you guessed it, a console...The majority of Gaming ads are for a Console, not a PC.

As much as I admire the fact that you can build your own PC, and maintain it, you're a dying breed. The reason? Convenience...Not everyone wants to mess with installation of drivers and software and system requirements when they can just plug and play... The good news for you is that the less educated the common user is about using a system, the more money a person like you could charge to fix it...just a thought.

I used to game on PC's too, but now I find using the mouse and Keyboard is no longer comfortable for me, Now when I play a game on my PC, I use a PC Controller...but It doesn't get used very often because the PS3 is where my games are.

It's kind of sad to see it happen, because without PC's there wouldn't be games...but Even you have to agree that the number of PC gamers is dwindling in comparison to Console gamers. If you disagree, look at the sales numbers between console games and PC games...Like you said, everyone has a PC or Laptop...so what do the sales of PC games say? They'll tell you everything you need to know.

Ben my argument was not to say the PC is a better gaming platform than a console. If you are looking for the most varied gameplay and the most bang for your buck I would have to say a console is the best since its main objective is for games unlike a PC. However if you play a lot of 1st person shooters or RTS and enjoy continued support from a developer and the best online gameplay as well as controls IMO the PC is leagues above consoles in that aspect. I clearly don't suggest someone do one or the other since I've owned just about every console ever made since the summer of 1989.

I'm aware of that, but I just wanted to clarify. I just can't see why some people want to play the exact same games over and over for ten years. I'm not saying you do (you don't if you own all the consoles); it's just a general comment regarding those who invariably stick with PC.

I can blame Sony like I did in the past but I have to point out I did smoke around it alot back then. Bad habits die hard, doing the same thing in front of my PS3... I used to pain-stakingly open it up to clean the lens just to get a few weeks of proper PS2ing. Until it went back...it always went back to the DRE.

I remember when GTA4 came out Walmart sold out here in a matter of minutes (were talking hundreds of copies), so my friend that didn't pre-order it simply walked across the street to a desolate Kmart and picked it up amongst a ton of copies still on the shelf. Kmart is great for when something is sold out somewhere else since few people ever walk its dirty aisles anymore.

I use to have the shark ufo looking ps2 wireless control same that they showed ps3 at E3 super comfortable. Wooh K2!!! Go Go Go!

Im in the U.K and i pre ordered Killzone from Play.com for £29.99 and it came today the 26th Feb. Now i pre ordered SF4 from Amazon and that arrived 4 days l8. From now on everything i pre order will be from Play, Amazon are too unpredictable. As for LBP, its awesome and it went in the bargain bin 2 weeks after launch, you can buy it from Amazon or play for £17.99 thats about 30$

Anybody interested in a 60GB PS3? I have 1 for sale with your choice of 1 game and 5 Blu-ray movies.
