FFXIII On Track For 2009 In Japan, Demo Is One Hour

In some ways, we're like, "yay, we get to talk about Final Fantasy XIII all year!" and in other ways, we're like, "...damnit, we have to talk about Final Fantasy XIII all damn year."

God only knows how far off a North American release date is, but we do have some relatively good news for you. We say "relatively" because Square-Enix president Yoichi Wada mentioned that the delay of Dragon Quest IX for the DS may cause the release of FFXIII to slip. Thankfully, this doesn't appear to be the case: according to Kotaku, FFXIII director and writer Motomu Toriyama simply said in response- "Development is going favorably for a 2009 launch." This was in the latest Famitsu, so we're going to say it's accurate and up-to-date, but don't get too excited; he's obviously only talking about Japan. But at least this means we might still see the game in the second quarter of 2010, so cross your fingers and wish really, really hard.

We've also learned that the playable demo included in the upcoming Blu-Ray release of "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" will be about one hour in length. That's a great length for any playable demo, and we only wish we could see it on store shelves in the U.S. The silver lining is that you can probably expect to see real in-game footage taken from that demo popping up on YouTube; hell, someone might even put up a video of them playing the entire hour. See? We're trying to stay optimistic, here.

WOW 1 hour long demo, i think thats the longest demo i've seen of. I can't see the game hitting NA until middle of 2010. Is this game the longest talked about game? cause man i think we've been talking about this game since the PS3 launched.

Duke Nukem Forever is the longest talked about game hands down. And one day when hell freezes over and Satan asks if he can crash on my couch because I have central heating we might see another video of "all-new" footage.

I went and pre-order my copy from Play-asia.com the day they allowed pre-orders for FF:AC on Blu-Ray!

You can bet that I will have impressions and some videos on youtube for you guys (and gals) to check out.

WHOAAAA, well i tought FFXIII was ment to be released world wide on the same day

id love it if so, FFXIII should be one of the defintive titles of this gen.

nope :( japan gets it first, then US has to wait for the 360 version to be completed and then it'll be released simul in US :| it's an epic fail, SE is just showing it's love for 360 is all

SE did mention they were working on games to be worldwide simulatenous release but it seems like thats after their western expansion is somewhat completed.

Yeah i did the same, I went to play-asia and preordered he FF:ACC blu-ray [first print w/ ff13 trial] lol it was expensive as hell XD 69.99$ for it, then 18.something for the shipping. 3-5 days

ALSO OFF-TOPIC, ben..or arnold. did either of y'all see the kotaku articleabout capcom and Lost planet 2. it looks like it'll be a timed exclusive, since capcom said something along the lines of "Being developed for the xbox 360" and did'nt say anything about the ps3 :| sorry can't post a link, on the ps3 lol

Meh, in all honesty this is the one FF I don't feel is gonna be epic.

I know that basing that on vids and images isn't wise, but still the characters shown so far really make me go WTF?

about time somebody does a long demo. The Killzone 2 demo was like 5 minutes! if you can read japanese there's no problem. if you can, play angel love online with me...(i'm lonely there)

I could careless about game demos. There are a few game series I buy regardless of reviews (FF,HL,RE,TR,TeamICO). For anything else I just read reviews and the general consensus among gamers. I would rather wait for the final product than spoil the fun by playing an unfinished demo.

I'm embarrassed to say it but TR would be...da da da....Tomb Raider. I'll be the 1st to admit the series has grown stale but I can't help but get my Lara on every few years.

I'm excited, I enjoy the storyline and although I miss the scary mood of previous versions the series is still better than most games out there. I do however feel DeadSpace is a better game than the most recent RE games (4 and 5).

From the news articles I read on this, including the quote in question, Wada never said the DQ delay would make FFXIII slip.

That was the misinterpretation by some people. I never got that from Wada's quote.

What I got from his quote was that SE didn't know what kind of effect the DQ delay would have on FFXIII.
