Street Fighter Movie KO'd By Critics

We did our best to remain optimistic for this movie, but somewhere deep down, we always knew the deep, dark, depressing truth. That truth was forced painfully to the surface after laying eyes on the Metacritic average for "Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li."

We won't even link you to it - it's really too depressing, albeit humorous - but let's just say it's averaging around 20%, and that's including the one decent review (60) from Variety. The rest, from TV Guide, Entertainment Weekly, The Hollywood Reporter, and LA Weekly are all terrible. The Hollywood Reporter's Frank Scheck said that "yet another video game crashes and burns upon its translation to the big screen," and Entertainment Weekly's Adam Markovitz was especially harsh in handing out a sad D- grade: "The fight scenes are saggy, the actors are stiff, and the sleepiness of it all is enough to make you nostalgic for the simple smackdown charms of the movie's namesake videogame." Essentially, as far as we can tell from these early reviews, "The Legend of Chun-Li" is a train wreck of an action flick, which is about what we expected. 'sigh'

However, we do have a small message for Ms. Kristin Kreuk: every actor makes bad decisions every once in a while; for future reference, though, please do us all a favor and avoid any video game adaptations. Hollywood just can't do it. It's not your fault. They just screw it up all the time. You've got a pretty face so this wasn't exactly career suicide, but please...avoid and evade in the future. And for the love of God, turn down any offer of a sequel!

it's these corporate film people that don't know squat about a game but since its a popular game, they think it will be a profitable movie.

Maybe next time they can cast Chun Li as freakin' Chinese! And none of this Guile OR Chun Li as the main character. You know what, maybe they can stop trying to ruin the good name of these fine video games!

I don't think I could ever think of a video game that I can see translated well to the big screen via hollywood... this was the closest and what a shame it was.

I agree with Ben... Hollywood just can't do it... I could, but not hollywood (jk)

agreed.

im usually one of the ones who actually likes movie adaptations. but i never liked the sound of this from the beginning. the first street fighter movie since the Van Damme movie. and its about Chun Li????? =S

shoulda been about Ken and Ryu

Man this movie should have been made and put straight to Youtube. They should be paying us to to watch. Stree fighter movie is 2 toes down! lets not forget Dragon ball Z coming. Why must they ruin what we hold so dear to our hearts? You know what? Square is the only one who did these movie the best, don't you agree Ben?

Let's just say I made the mistake of seeing the first Street Fighter movie back in 1995. The critic gave the movie a 0 score in the Ottawa Sun. I think it deserved a 1. I won't be seeing the sequel.

The Japanese have so much faith in American cinema

They STILL think we can make good movies(rare these days that they do).

I bet the ok was given by Capcom of JAPAN and not Capcom USA.

Hollywood is garbage and cliche, the only thing they can do is follow the same formula(Batman, Spiderman, war movie, emotional movie) rinse and repeat.

I knew this movie was gonna suck lol.

When did Bison grow a beard? And since when does Balrog prefer guns to his fists?

Don't care about the reviews. The only opinion that matters is my own but I know i'll probably agree with them since from the trailers is does look like a bad adaptation.

Hollywood should leave the gaming movies to the Japanese, Chinese, Korean, or basically anyone from Asia who knows how to make a good film. At least the they know how to follow a storyline and use the true main characters as main characters.

Well, you kinda know a movie is bad when it's trailer doesn't tell you ANYTHING about the plot. Honestly, has anyone seen a trailer yet that isn't just a bunch of random scenes of people fighting and stuff blowing up?

I reckon Uncharted would make an amazing movie.

They would have to make sure the developers worked closely with the film producers, and find the right actors, but it could work.

Prince of Persia movie? Might be decent.

If you wanna watch a film where the fight scenes are done properly, watch a jackie chan, jet Li or Sammo hung movie, or watch any Hong Kong martial arts flick.

They should make an RPG movie instead of all of these action game movies. RPGs actually tend to have good storylines (Mass Effect, Final Fantasy, etc.) and would work better as movies.
