PSXE Poll Update: Metal Gear Solid 4's Storyline Is Unmatched

Well, once again, we may be seeing the power of the most recent positive impression sitting foremost in everyone's minds.

But we're certainly not trying to take anything away from the Best Storyline Poll winner: Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. It beat out the runner-up, Final Fantasy VII, and the original Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy VIII came in third and fourth respectively. Hideo Kojima and the rest of his staff certainly delivered one of the most professional and memorable plots in history; the amazing cast of characters coupled with the nicely paced and appropriately intricate storyline was indeed groundbreaking. This is the type of story many of us have been waiting for in the video game world, and we're most appreciative of the script, dialog and plot twists. It's also significant to note that this honor didn't go to a role-playing game; it only proves just how accomplished the MGS franchise really is.

Moving on, we ask you another difficult question: which of the most recent spectacular-looking titles has the best graphics in the game world to date? Is it Guerilla's Killzone 2? Crytek's Crysis? MGS4? Or could it even be a demo (Gran Turismo 5: Prologue)? This is the question that will determine which title receives the label of, "ultimate visual masterpiece," although we'll probably have to do this poll again in another year. The industry just continues to make stride after stride in the realm of graphics!

Both are great games, two of my favourites, but can't say I could explain either story to someone who had no experience of the games, hence I wouldnt rate the stories so high.

MGS is the best story IMO

I only acquired MGS4 a few days ago... embarrassingly not by myself, a friend of mind shoved it in my face and said, "Play it !"

I came to work the next morning a changed man... utterly brilliant in every respect... they should simply take the engine and make a movie with it... Kojima knows what he is doing... enough said!

Roll on MGS5...

Not too many people agree with me that Uncharted is the best looking game ever...

I think it is a very good looking game... very crisp and superb texturing. Water algorithm is not that good though; generally the water simulation is the most difficult to get right... I suspect Unchartered II will be pretty awesome and would have improved on all these aspects...

im sorry, MGS4 was a good game but for the story MGS1 was far superior, in character each character was interesting. MGS4s story does get slow at many points, its a good game no doubt, i just dont think that voted was honest thats all. Though i do think it deserves best graphics so far...

I agree with this comment. MGS was a better story than MGS4 in that it was less complicated and more memorable.

My point in the first comment is that you couldnt relate the MGS4 story to a non-gamer and they would think it is great, heck - I'm a huge fan but had to go to the net to clarify some of the plot. Towards the end I didnt know what was going on but that didnt detract from the overall greatness of the game - I play games for the gameplay and interaction, not so much the story.

I think COD4 should have been on that list (for the best graphics poll).

The sniper mission with the scope reflection and the realistic trees and grass still amazes me.

I don't think the graphics in CODIV and CODV are that good... the texturing is very patchy!

COD4 was better than COD5 by far. Infinity Ward knows what they're doing.

FFT has the best story in my opinion, but it was not an option so i picked Xenogears instead.

Hideo Kojima did say that he was going to finish off the Solid Snake story so they had to finish the tale off, pity I wanted them to keep going.

I have said before they can always go back and do a game with Snake based in it between say Metal Gear 2 and 4 (3 was Big Boss and not Snake) but he wants to move on and do other projects. If his new projects are anything like the MGS series then were in for one heck of good time. :)

I never played Final Fantasy VII, however I have watched Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children. This was back in like...the beginning of 2007. I absolutely loved the movie and frankly the whole plot made sense to me. This got me interested in Final Fantasy VII: Crisis Core which I ended up getting on June of 2008. I finished pretty much everything except most of the missions...and stuck on the last boss. I love the story. I can't wait to see what happens in the end of it so I can get on to Final Fantasy VII. After Final Fantasy VII - I would love to get my hands on Dirge of Cerberus despite the "average-good" reviews.

As for Metal Gear Solid 4...I haven't played it (since I don't have a PS3). However...it was way too irresistible for me to just sit back and watch everyone chatter about just how epic it was...so I took a peak at some cutscenes on YouTube. Sorry...ALL the cutscenes. The story was...................epic. Way too epic. I found it an amazing ending quite frankly. I have only played Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty and Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater but wow what a game MGS 4 was. Just...truly epic. I also got Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops...which I absolutely love...it's just that since I'm restricted from playing my PSP at this moment...I can't play it...and I've only got like 5 hours on it lol. Oh well. MGS is awesome...and I'm sure for those who played Final Fantasy VII when it came out would say that its story was pretty memorable.

I agree with a few of you guys that Uncharted's graphics were amazing, but I gotta go with GT5: Prologue.
