RE5 Explodes On The Sales Charts

Is it any real surprise to learn that Resident Evil 5 is a huge seller? It shouldn't be, considering the massive fanbase for that long-running franchise, and RE5 is really flying off store shelves.

Capcom's latest survival/horror zombie-fest has become the fastest selling iteration in the history of the series and the publisher's single biggest launch ever. The announcement is impressive: Capcom has shipped over 4 million copies of RE5 worldwide and according to this week's UK All Format's Chart, 55% of the already-sold units were the 360 version while 45% were the PS3 version. But it doesn't end there; the blockbuster title, according to GameZine, "is also the largest All Formats number one since Call of Duty: World at War," and in fact, RE5 "represents 27.1% of all console revenue this week." ...that's pretty damn impressive, wouldn't you say? For more freaky statistics, we turn your attention to the fact that RE5's sales are actually more than the combined sales of the other nine titles that comprise the top ten! Oh, and if you want to compare it to the launch of RE4 on the PS2, RE5 has outsold RE4 by a ratio of 3.22 to 1. Obviously, there's no doubt that Capcom has a winner on its hands, even if the critical reception hasn't been overly outstanding.

It's pretty and entertaining (for the most part), and we figure it's great for fans of RE4. There were a lot of those, and even more who were anxiously anticipating the release of RE5, so these gaudy numbers aren't too shocking. Congrats to Capcom, at any rate.

I'm surprised actually. But then again... People gots to have their Resident Evil. I just hope it steps back into it's root survival horror again. Maybe make this type of the game a spin-off series or something. I'm just kinda sad that it's not the same anymore.

Niether did I, just not my type of game. Had such an excellent time with Killzone 2 last night... damn, that game should have sold 5 million plus... a real intelligent shooter...

one word springs to mind... Q U A L I T Y

Technically though, RE5 does look like it has been well made!

4 million shipped.....to stores I take it? Well how many MGS4 or Killzone 2 were shipped to stores?

We will have to wait a few months and see how it's doing in the NPD numbers vs. KZ2.

Personally I will wait to buy it used or if one of the stores has it on sale for $20 less.

Us serious gamers get everything the publishers throw at us. They know that we love our games and will use that against us to nickle and dime us. We cry. We complain. We protest. But at the end of the day, they know we will buy their games and the dlc. Fortunately, I'm not a fan of Capcom games. But I hope no other publishers try this gimmick.

I'm not too sure I really want to buy RE5..I've heard it's good..But iono..RE4 really threw me off so RE5 throws me off too. I guess I'm like a lot of people who want RE to return to survival/horror...

RE5 is perfect for playing online co-op or co-op with a homie, I actually thought RE4 was better that 5. RE4 had so many revolutionary ideas and was a blast.

The Resident Evil villans and enemies have evolved thus RE has evolved also. Well, in some aspects.

This game was suprisingly good actually. I hated the demo, but the demo doesn't do the actuall game justice. It left out all sense of plot, left out the addictive weapon leveling system, and it was based in two parts of the game that are not that great.

There is nothing wrong with resident evil 5. Yeah I miss how its not scary anymore, but it was a solid game. Lots of rewards, plenty of reasons to keep playing through, and awesome multiplayer. if you ask me Capcom did a hell of a job.

Good to hear that CapCom had another big sales blockbuster in as many months. I actually enjoy Resident Evil 5 more than I did 4. Perhaps because it's easier to play on a PS3 controller than a GC one or some other reason.

I'm skipping out for now, hopefully they'll make RE6 a top title when it arrives. If they completely change it for the better, that wouldn't be surprising.

I loved RE4 so much! I preordered RE5 from amazon last october. I got the game last friday next day air. I'd much rather play over the shoulder view like RE4/RE5 and uncharted 1/2 than first person shooters.

Hear me out, I'm not bashing FPS games. KZ2, resistance 1/2 are GREAT games, but their not for everyone. Believe me I've tried to like those games. I just can't get used to the controls or not even seeing my character, just my gun.

The controls are awesome! If changing the game means its more like a FPS, then I would not like that. 4 million+ gamers can't be wrong! Chris/Sheva rule!:)

Only gripe is that it should have been with hard drive streaming like uncharted. Uncharted: no install required! I think capcom could learn from the great naughty dog. :)
