UPDATE: Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 Confirmed!
UPDATE: We just got word from Tecmo confirming that Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is exclusively heading for the PlayStation 3. -Arnold
Last week, we told you that Tecmo might be preparing to unveil a new PlayStation 3 exclusive title on March 24 in a PlayStation Store in San Francisco. Speculation and debate is always fun, but now, it appears we're zeroing in on an answer...
As you can see by this magazine scan, it appears that a Japanese publication (Famitsu? Dengeki?) has confirmed that Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is in the works for the PS3. Essentially, this is going to be an updated version of Ninja Gaiden II - recently released for the Xbox 360 - and it's slated to release in fall 2009. PS3 owners will get the added benefits of a new weapon (a spiked hammer called the "Genma"), new boss battles and a new playable character...the busty, purple-haired female ninja who had a small role in the original NG: Ayane. This could very well be the game that Tecmo is going to reveal next week, although it's not necessarily a "PS3 exclusive." Yes, Sigma 2 would be exclusive, as the original Sigma was, but both are merely remakes/upgrades of existing titles on Microsoft consoles. We're not complaining; merely clarifying. Ninja Gaiden actually went through a couple of upgrades after exploding onto the original Xbox, as we then got Ninja Gaiden: Black for the same system, and later, Ninja Gaiden Sigma for the PS3. Therefore, Sigma 2 is hardly out of the realm of possibility.
Let's not forget about Tecmo's true PS3 exclusive, which is the third-person action shooter, Quantum Theory. We have high hopes for that one as well, and we can pretty much guarantee that Sigma 2, if and when it arrives, will certainly be the best version of NGII available.

1) That annoying guy Itakagi a very well known PS brand hater (Sony hater perhaps) is not more a Tecmo developer.
2) NG2 was not a success both in terms of quality and sales.
I hope Tecmo got a good release date for Sigma 2 so it doesnt compete with other PS first party exclusives. If Sigma 2 does as good as the first in terms of sales sure Tecmo will be more than happy and PS3 will be getting more titles from them.

I will get Sigma 2 if it comes out, as I think I will enjoy it. Would be awesome if the make a bundle pack of that as well having Sigma 1 & 2 in one disk will rock. Seeing I traded my copy of Sigma a long time ago.
A bit off topic but I would love a new Tenchu... Hitman ooh and a new Soul Reaver. How come that;s not happening?
