Mass Effect 2 Not Coming To PS3?
As Videogamer.com reports, Bioware has officially announced the long-anticipated RPG sequel, Mass Effect 2...but PlayStation 3 owners will be disappointed to learn that their console of choice wasn't mentioned.
Most people simply assumed that in this new generation that has seen the demise of multiple third-party exclusives, Mass Effect 2 would be on all three major platforms. It was also important to note that with EA holding the publishing reigns, it seemed even more likely to find this sequel on the PS3. But either the game will be another timed exclusive, or it simply won't come to Sony's machine at all. Dr. Ray Muzyka, general manager and CEO of Bioware:
"We're going to surpass the extraordinary gaming experience we brought our fans in Mass Effect by delivering intensified combat and expanded weapon options as well as increased depth of planet exploration, all while delivering a powerful, emotionally engaging story. Mass Effect 2 is shaping up to be an unforgettable RPG-shooter experience, taking players on a non-stop roller-coaster ride filled with stunning plot twists and no-holds-barred action."
The title is slated to arrive in early 2010 and is confirmed for the Xbox 360 and PC. But that's where it ends and it's disappointing for PS3 fans, many of whom had been counting on this sequel to go fully multiplatform. Again, though, this may be a timed exclusive; Microsoft may have paid to keep it on their console for a certain period of time. We'll let you know if either Bioware or EA issues a PS3-related update some time in the future.

Just look at Bioshock as an example! If they would have released at the same time, then I'm sure they would have got more sales. But when it's a year away, bigger and better things come along, and you forget about it.
I, for one, never even looked at Bioshock when it came out for PS3. I played it on PC...but didn't impress me even then, so...
MS doing this just pisses people off, and adds fuel to fanboy talk.

It might also be that the first game is on a timed exclusivity which hasn't expired yet, so EA/Bioware might eventually be looking to release a bumper version that includes both games, just as soon they're able. Blu-Ray could certainly fit them both on the one disc.

But still plenty to keep me going on the PS3 as well, plus I do think the PS3 has more and better games coming anyway.
Played the demo of that Xblades tonight on the 360 and I wasn't impressed with it, so that's another one I'll be giving a miss.

Great game, mind, and if they iron out the clitches I may get the follow up but I was never sure that it going to PS3(esp with that engine again)would be wise.
Nothing to cry about if you don't have a 360 as I would put my house on the PC version being the best one again-even cconsidering that you can use your saved character from ME in ME2 on 360.

Woah! Easy now! Let me explain first. It's just that I cannot pass up the ability to bring over my Mass Effect data to Mass Effect 2.
This is actually the reason I never really saw how they would bring parts 2 and 3 over to the PS3 in the first place anyway.
But look at it this way by the time part 3 is out you will be able to get Wal-Mart to pay you to take an Arcade off their hands.

Anyway back on topic. I am rather disheartened by this news. I really enjoyed the first and I really wanted this to come to the PS3. EA and (I believe) Bioware have lately been praising the PS3 so what the hell? Anyway... I am just sad to see another solid RPG pass the PS3 by.
It's a "disheartening" kind of day I guess.

Didn't play the first one, unless they bring it over to the PS3, I don't foresee me playing it either. But remember that this exclusive stuff works both ways...FFXIII were PS3 exclusives at one point to.. Maybe if enough hype gets drummed up over Mass Effect 2, then the developers will bring it over..
The question is do we want it? We already know the history of games made for the xbox and ported over to the PS3...they're crap. Why would we want more of that when we've got some great exclusives of our own that are made to be played on the PS3 first....
Let MS have it. I didn't lose any sleep over not playing the first one...I'm not going to lose any sleep over the 2nd. If you're the type of person that is going to lose sleep over it, then you probably already own a Xbox 360 anyways, and you still get to play it...so what's the problem?

Also, I posted this in Ben's article that DR2 and LP2 won't make it out until 2010; but it is the last post and the thread seems to have died.
According to Kotaku, the original quote that indicated these games wouldn't make it until next year was referring to Capcom's next fiscal year, Fiscal 2010, which runs from April 2009-March 2010. So, there is still hope that we might see one, or both, of these games in 2009.
Look, will Capcom only release Dark Void this fall? I mean, really, after dropping SFIV and RE5 in the first three months of 2009, does the rest of Capcom's 2009 lineup consist of only Dark Void?
I, however, will readily admit to looking forward to Dark Void.

"We have no comment beyond the platforms we've announced it for".
Sounds like that BS Capcom gave us about Lost Planet 2 hitting the PS3, not even a month after claiming their favorite new word was 'multiplatform'.
Mass Effect 2 will the PS3. You just wait and see.

Anyway, I think doesnt make sense to bring ME2 to PS3 without ME1, so I expect some double pack release sometime in the future. Dont forget Bioware needs to gain some skill in PS3 development and some extra time comes handily to them.

The idea of MS bribing (I can't think of any other word for it) developers - if it's true for ME2 - still irritates me though.

Microsoft didn't become one of the richest companies in the world by giving money away.
If they did invest money then you can be sure they'll be making it back and them some, as with the lost and damned.
For a site that claims to not be "fanboy friendly", there sure are a lot of presumptious idiots lurking around.

And if they do bring it to the PS3 then they will have to bring the first one as well. So like the people said before me maybe they will bring out a bundle release for the PS3. That would be worth getting for sure.
But hopefully we (ps3) will get an awesome RPG exclusive in the near future.... Oh wait...

"Confirmed: Mass Effect 2 not on PS3"
but when I read it they only confirmed it for the 360 and PC on 2010, they never mentioned the PS3. Meaning the PS3 version wasn't confirmed on PS3 but it wasn't denied either.
Here are the two possibilities that I see though.
1. Like you said it could be a timed exclusive for Microsoft.
2. They could announce a PS3 version at a big time show like GDC or E3. Developers like to throw bombshells these days like Square Enix with FFXIII.
