GDC Rumors: Price Drops, SotC Online, Legend Of Dragoon Remake?

If you've been keeping up with the industry, you're eagerly anticipating this week's Game Developers Conference. And although we can't say that any of the following is possible, we'd like to think that a few of these rumors are plausible.

A list of GDC rumors has surfaced over at PlayStation Insider, and there's plenty to chew on. They talk about the new 80GB PlayStation 3 bundle featuring MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man, which we've already seen evidence of, and then it moves on into a big one: the possibility of a 40GB PS3 that will launch this May with a price of $299. If true, that's a biggie, but let's not discount the supposed unveiling of the PSP Slide and a corresponding price drop for the current PSP model. We certainly believe that a new Syphon Filter is on the way, although we had no idea it would be using the Killzone 2 engine, and there's mention of Insomniac's new project. Could it really be a platformer/RPG like the Zelda titles on the N64...?

But the two rumors that caught our eye was the Shadow of the Colossus Online theory, and the weird report that "Legend of Dragoon is under development." For the former, it seems like an odd choice and we'd much rather have a true sequel and for the latter, we have to assume they're talking about either a full-on remake a second title. RPG fans have been hoping for a new LoD since the original released on the PlayStation a decade ago, so could this be the news they've been waiting for? Well, you won't have much longer to wait, so stay tuned this week!

I'd really like to see some stuff about the new psp.

The $299 PS3 would be a great move for the company, and may be the reason Sony is so adamant about not having a price drop.

I'm ashamed to say it, but I never played shadow of colossus, but I did buy a copy and intend to soon.

I really want to see what Insomniac is doing too.

Legend of Dragoon would be pimp but they are probably just going to remake it for PSP or something low end like that.

If Insomniac would make a Zelda like game I'd be all over it like a red light on a 360.

I dont think The Legend of Dragoon got the appreciation, it deserved. It was no FF7 in they story department, but in gameplay mechanics and the ways to level your character (The button timing moves like "Burning Rush")It was on par with FF7 even though still being fll turn based.....

lots to smile about. im not sure which i like the best though... the price drop would not interest me, but in wanting more from sony overall i would want their sales to do well, so whatever works. now about the syphon filter, to me any news is good news, and this little bit is awsome. would love to start hearing more about that... and all this talk of LoD wants me to blow the dust off of it for another round!

Hopefully they annouce a psp slide. A 40gb ps3 for $299 is a steal for anyone looking to cop one in the future, im happy wit my 60gb. I'd love to see a rpg platform kinda like zelda with better graphics, we'll just have to wait and see.

go on youtube and type "shadow of the colossus tech demo" and you will see a video of a colossus getting killed by a bunch of warriors which look like the guy from ICO with the horns (apparently he used the model from ICO for the Warriors). From what Ive read on forums, SotC was supposed to be a ps3 launch title with online play but it was scaled back and released on the ps2.

Oh man. Any new LoD news has me excited. Hell, I just posted a comment about this on the FFVII remake article you just wrote Ben. We've been waiting a looooooong time for this. A PSP remake would be lame though, I can play it on my PSP now. I generally try to avoid these rumours... but this has certainly piqued my interest :)

C'mon price drop!! Daddy needs a new PS3... really... badly.

I don't know if Sony is making the right move if they come out with a 40 GIG for $299. I would buy it, but what sense would it make for anyone to buy the 160 GIG at $499. You could buy the 40 GIG for $299 and slap a 160 GIG HDD for only $49. Sony would have to add b/c to the 160 GIG for it to be worth it. I know the 40 GIG is just a rumor, but I hope Sony is only removing 40 GIGs from the 80 GIG version and not making a cheap Arcade version not worth buying.

You need to keep in mind that a majority of gamers wont be swapping out the existing HD for a better one. I myself would quickly snag that 40 gig version and fill it with a 500gig hd off newegg for 89 dollars.

O.O LOD REMAKE!!!!!!!! Ok this is probably like the thousandth time I've heard this rumor but I still can't avoid being excited, Legend of Dragoon is my all time favorite game, there's just something in it that I haven't been able to find in any other game. I don't know what it is, but I never have more fun then when playing it, even after having beaten it exactly 51 times (I'm not even exagerating, I actually counted them).

LOD LOD LOD LOD! Ben, let it be true this time. What a kickass rumor. So long as it didn't originate from Michael Pachter's mouth, I'm willing to put at least SOME stock in it. That would be one helluva addition to the game catalog.

And, not that I'm not excited about the SotC Online news, but like Draguss, I'm just a HUGE fan of Legend of Dragoon! It was so fun it should have been outlawed. Just imagine where a solid next-gen treatment could take the franchise... it boggles the mind!
