GDC 09: The Last Remnant PS3 Gone?
When we first heard that Square-Enix's The Last Remnant would debut on the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 owners were understandably upset. And although the game didn't turn out to be the fantastic gem everyone had hoped it'd be, PS3 fans are still gonna be miffed if it never arrives.
The Game Life blog attended The Last Remnant panel at the Game Developers Conference, and after discussing the difficulty in using the Unreal Engine 3 in a JRPG, the question was posed: "The Last Remnant was originally announced to be Square-Enix's first multiplatform game. But the PlayStation 3 version hasn't come out yet. Is it still happening?" The response?
Silence.
No one wants to speak. Finally, someone ventures: "Well, the PC version came out this week."
Me: "Yes, it did."
More silence. Everyone's kind of glancing around.
Takai: "Well, as for the PS3 version, I can't say anything about that."
Me: "Alright, then."
Er...why didn't they want to say anything? Has the PS3 version of The Last Remnant disappeared? If they didn't want to confirm a release date, that's one thing, but why couldn't they even answer the question, "is it still happening?" This isn't likely to go over well with PS3 owners, and Square-Enix is already in the doghouse as far as many Sony fans are concerned. Stay tuned for more info.

SE company head: " Well guys we need to find a way to appeal more to the WESTERN AUDIENCE"
SE pee-on: "I have an idea sir, why don't we take a huge dump on the heads of our most loyal fanbase, and we can wipe with all of this money we're getting from microsoft"
SE company head: "I like it, let's roll with that"

I love Square-Enix's antics now. Its was infuriating at 1st, but now its just funny. I starting to think that S-E keeps the PS3 developers locked away in the vault somewhere working FF13 titles 20 hours a day. While the rest of the staff, works 4 hour days and makes 360 games.
That "ish" is so funny to me. Thanks for the laugh. I'm going to bed now.
"Hey S-E what about that PS3 game?"
"Uh...uh...we came out with the PC version."
Pure Comedy.

Square went from one of my favorite developers to damn near the bottom rather quickly.
That conversation was gold though, I bet Square felt pretty stupid after that. The silence seems like they were thinking.... "Crap.... Thought they forgot about that game"

But I gotta agree, what's with all those crappy rpg title?
Who knows, maybe they are just making lousy games for the 360 EXCLUSIVELY.

Square: "Let's get this straight. You're going to pay us around 50 million for exclusive rights to games that haven't even got a proven fan base?"
Microsoft: "Correct. We really need to prove this system has staying power before the stockholders take over the company and shut down our division for costing the company over $6 billion with the X-box and 360 line."
Square: "So even if the games don't sell a single copy, we still make 50 million?"
Microsoft: "Correct. The name is all we really want. People will buy the games. But there is one more thing. For this price we also want exclusive rights to Final Fantasy XIII."
Square: "Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. Are you out of your minds? We'll make way more than that on PS3 alone. But tell you what, make it 100 million and we'll port it to your system and toss in Star Ocean as well."
Microsoft: "I have to call this in. 'Bill, they want 100 million for a port of Final Fantasy XIII but they said they'd throw in Star Ocean. What do you think? Uh-huh, okay, sure, got it. What? Starbucks? Sure fine just let me finish up here. Okay...*whisper*Thank you master, you're the greatest*whisper*' Okay, here's your check. Let us know when the games are ready?"
Microsoft Leaves
Square: "I can't believe it. We just made 100 million without selling a single game. Okay, give the first three projects to those new studios and tell them to find engines to build their games on. Call Tri-ace and tell them the budget for Star Ocean needs to be cut. Finally, tell the Final Fantasy team to find a way to make the game work on a 360. Easiest money we ever made."
Square Assistant: "But sir, won't that lower the quality of the games and damage our reputation?"
Square: "How many times have you seen an offer like that come along? Any normal company would never allow a division to throw away money without some guarantee of success or profit return. There isn't much time left before the stockholders take over and cut off this near limitless flow of funds so we need to take advantage of it while we can. Don't worry about our reputation. When the well dries up we can use some of the extra profits to start making better quality games and restore what can only be a minimal loss of the fanbase."
I probably wouldn't pass up on the opportunity either. The only thing I'm thankful for is I'm starting to see the bottom of that well. When R&D budgets get slashed and product and accessory lines are being discontinued to cut down on costs you know things are not going well in the house that Microsoft bought*.
*Not a misuse of a phrase. My biggest complaint with Microsoft has always been that they bought what they are famous for and we all know the rich kid who comes to the game is defeated by talent and a lack of funds in the end.

Still, I don't like how S-E has turned its back on Sony fans.
Therefore, I'm changing S-E's name. From now on, I will only refer to S-E as...
ScrEwnix!

SE is known for JRPGs. That's the games we want from SE. They need to stop trying to be something they aren't and give the fans what they want... (cue FFVII remake cries)...

Like an Artist or rockstar that's just in it for the money and the p***** eventually it all dries up.And when that happens if they weren't real good artist they will never write another hit song again. And they will fade away like so many others before them.
There is also nothing harder that to get back a fan you p***** on.
So Square-Enix you have one more show left in my book and that is FFXIII (even if it is Multiplat) and FFXIII versus. And that better be the best freakin show you have ever played! If not I think even your new boy band following (the xbots) would have had enough and move on to the next ''Jonas Brothers album'' or what not...
(Sorry for all the weird comparisons but it made sense while writing it)
