Cheat In KZ2, Lose Your PSN ID?

This is what we like to see: a no tolerance policy for cheaters. They can all go suck a lemon.

Now, if you're one of those losers who can't find a way to compete without cheating online, and your next target is the honest Killzone 2 players, you may want to rethink the idea. Guerilla's latest Twitter update is a huge warning to all the lamers out there- if you cheat, you're liable to lose your PSN ID. We're not entirely sure how this is going to work, but it seems perfectly clear that Guerilla doesn't want the KZ2 online experience ruined by cheating. This may be the start of publishers and developers banging the gavel more often when it comes to the rule-breakers, because there's a very vocal set of gamers who absolutely abhor cheaters. They ruin a perfectly good online multiplayer experience and when it comes to a game like KZ2, that's just sacrilege. So expect to see harsher punishments like this in the future, and in our opinion, they couldn't possibly be harsh enough. Just...get...out.

We'll let you know when Guerilla drops their new list of policies and punishments, but we imagine it'll be pretty simple: don't cheat, or you're gone. We seriously doubt that most real gamers will disagree with this philosophy.

Fu** yeah! I love KZ2 online (Lt rank today :D ) and seeing this makes it even better. I only wish they could make the controls as "heavy" as the single player mode, then it would be perfect.

I was pissed. KZ2 is not COD, it is not a twitch-shooter. The single player requires you to work with human limitations like slow hip-to-scope movement (no 'quick-scope' as the kids call it) and rotation that isnt super-precise. The first time i played online (right after beating the campaign on the hardest setting) i had a hard time controlling my character because it felt like he had no weight and his gun was made of paper mache. KZ2 is revolutionary and shouldnt be making compromises like that to please whiny 13 year olds.

In all truthfulness, i wasnt a huge fan of the control "weight" at first. I had just come from the likes of CoD and Resistance, so it just felt very different. It didnt take away from the experience simply because i realized it wasnt those games. The contol scheme and everything else had grown on me and it was great. What people dont understand is that one game is not always going to feel the same as the next, you need to adapt to just about any game you play

Yeah, I don't plan to cheat, but how is it even possible? It's a console game without codes or tweaks so how do people cheat? (Other than the people I yell "CHEATER!" at every time I go online because I gotta shoot them for 5 whole seconds before they die and I die with a tiny bullet graze)

yeah, but how you destinguish the difference between joe shmo's normal lag, and jane doe's homemade lag?? it would seem to be a really difficult thing to do...

maybe GG knows of some kind of exploits that we haven't discovered yet... because the only other way to cheat that i can think of is gamesave alteration.. i tried it with cod 4 back when it worked... it was kool... no reload + unlimited ammo + laser pointer, on a rocket launcher... nothing cooler than an automatic bazooka

No tolerance for cheaters sounds all well and good, but how do they detect cheating? What happens if somebody is falsely accused of cheating? Where is the due process?

If they had some foolproof method of detecting cheating then cheating wouldn't be a problem in the first place because they could just block those players...

Ok, I guess the game is awesome because I have never seen any harmful glitches or cheats in the game so far =D

Unlike COD5 multiplayer.

Neither did Resistance 2, Ratchet & Clank or numerous other PS titles.
Coincidence in quality?

I refused to play multiplayer on W@W because of the cheating it ruined my game experience. I still wont touch it even though I heard the lastest patch fixed a lot of the glitches

I don't really play online for 2 reasons. Firstly the bandwidth in my country is a F***** joke. They said it will be done and ready for 2010 but I have my doubts. The second reason are cheaters.

I've maybe played a handful of online matches and I probably had about 3 very enjoyable online experiences. The one was playing online with only 3 other guys in the match (COD) and we played for about 2 hours in one match before someone actually got the upper hand.

For most of the other times I knew that most of the people were cheating. They were just too strong/fast or just had too many freakin grenades and so on. Cheating destroys the true experience of a good game.

And the people who cheat especially to raise they ranks are the biggest for of losers. As they are fake winners and do it to show off how good they are.

For me a good winner and player is someone who won 50 matches and maybe lost 47 matches... That shows he was there in the thick of things playing and trying relentlessly but even thou he got owned just as much as he dealt out the damage. For me that shows he true colors of a really great gamer.

Not about the trophies, not about the stats, and not about your rank or image. But about the honor and the fact that everyone would want you on their team because they know you will give the enemy hell in every way.

Cheating is for posers.

I only saw one cheater. He hid in the wall at Blood Graucht I think it's called. He just picked off the ISA as they spawned. So I'm more than glad to see this.

You can cheat every game by manipulating the LAN cable - no I will not tell how it works! and I don´t use it! - but, the only way to reveal these LAG-cheaters ist to install a ping-meter in every online game. If your ping falls beyond a certain value for a certain time - you´re kicked out automatically. That´s the way to deal with them. Because I think this is easier, than killing one´s psn account. Of course I totally agree with GG´s anticheater approach. In Socom for example - If someone´s lagging for more than one game - he´s kicked out without any comment by the other players in the team. But all Socom gamers wish for a ping-meter as well.

I'm no expert but after when my bandwidth is slashed by my ISP (or Throttling as they call it) will this also effect my ping? If I'm in the middle of a match at the time I'd hate to be kicked out as a cheater just because I happen to have crossed my bandwidth threshold.

Using other web-devices has an effect on your ping, that´s right. And due to cable insufficiency it may fluctuating as well. You may have a 20ms or 30ms for some seconds. Normal would be 10ms to 12ms. But what I´m talking about is a ping beyond 60ms for minutes. Those pings are a clear clue for the use of a hardware lagging device. And those guys have to be kicked out. Maybe blacklisted as well.

This is great buy I haven't seen too many cheats in KZ2. Atleast the games that I've played. The only thing I wish they did is that after you die to show how the person killed you like on COD. Other then that I hate they changed the controls but it is what it is. I'm not one to complain.

I've not played COD online, but KZ2 has a little ticker on the left that shows who killed who, with which weapon, and if it was a headshot. I think you mean that you want KZ2 to show where the person was when they shot you, and i agree that would be nice. If i get sniped its nice to see where it was from so i dont walk into the trap again.

One game i was playing had a ton of lag switchers. I would kill a guy and he'd disappear only to die elsewhere a minute later. There were about 3 or 4 guys doing this. I quit that game rather quickly.

@Fenrir, help me understand this: if they increase their own lag then they are at an advantage? In every other online game I've played (and they are many), having a slow or laggy connection means you get pwned repeatedly. Not the same here? Just curious...

short bursts of lag can make your character jump all over the map pretty fast... it makes it harder to kill you... i heard its used 4 glitching aswell

Im certain they wont ban you for the occasional lag, but people who cheat are generally too stupid to be subtle about it. Im sure they keep a close watch on everyone's ping and understand that some people just have bad connections. The thing about cheaters is that they will only lag when they are about to die, a bad connection will lag randomly.

Good to hear, other companies need to implement this. Cheating is very easy if you know how to play with the software of the game ect.. my friend plays gears 2 all the time and it's so noticable when someone is cheating, not sure about KZ2.

Some people can sit next to their router and unplug it when they run into opponents. They shoot the crap out of them for a few seconds and plug back in. I forget what they call it... Of course the person explaining it to me had a 360 and used an ethernet connection instead of wireless, but I think it's possible on PS3.
