Just Cause 2: Promising Info Revealed
The original didn't quite live up to expectations, but the foundation was solid. And besides, the Grand Theft Auto fans always love the idea of a new open-world, sandbox-style action title, so they should be looking forward to Just Cause 2.
Thanks to a new eyes-on session by IGN, we've got a few new details for you. Rico Rodriguez returns when his friend and mentor, Tom Sheldon, apparently goes off the reservation, and Rodriguez will have many of the same skills he boasted in the original game. Remember those parachutes and grappling hooks that actually made the game enjoyable and helped us to ignore the technical drawbacks? Well, they're coming back in a big way and Rico will even be able to hijack different aircraft and vehicles - ala Pursuit Force - and this should be highly appealing. Furthermore, you'll now be able to use that grappling hook in combat; not surprisingly, you can snag human enemies and toss 'em around with impunity. Heck, you can even impale the suckers! Obviously, we can also expect a major visual overhaul and developer Avalanche says the game will feature over 100 different vehicles and 50 "varied missions." This could be one of the bigger sleeper hits of the year, especially if the designers took the necessary steps to solidify and fine-tune the intense adventure. Just don't fall short on the necessary stuff, please.
Just Cause 2 is scheduled to hit store shelves for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and PC some time later this year, and remember, we don't get a new GTA or Saints Row this year. Therefore, this may be your best option for enjoying a freedom-oriented action extravaganza.
