Activision: Modern Warfare 2 To Be "#1 Entertaniment Property"

Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare was so ridiculously popular that Activision probably needed a separate warehouse to hold all the profit. Then Guitar Hero: World Tour came out, and now they probably need two warehouses.

Perhaps this is the reason why they say that Modern Warfare 2's popularity will easily compete with the biggest TV, DVD, and music entertainment. In fact, Activision is confident enough to say that Modern Warfare 2 will beat out both its predecessor and Call of Duty: World at War as "the biggest selling video game of all time." (source- MCV) Said brand manager Simon Wells:

"Each year the Call of Duty franchise goes from strength-to-strength. We want to propel this year's title to be the biggest selling video game of all time. That may raise some eyebrows, but step back and look at the franchise's trajectory through preceding launches, and this objective starts to look viable."

Wells went on to say that he "firmly believes" that Modern Warfare 2 can be the "#1 entertainment property of the year," and that's setting the bar uber-high. Back in the day, video games could never hope to be any such thing, but the world has changed a great deal, and now it seems almost inevitable that games could top every other form of entertainment in any given year. Heck, the industry does it all the time in terms of sheer profit, anyway. As for the game in question, we just want some media; screenshots, a teaser video where we actually see something, etc. We'll keep a sharp eye out.

It's just not often that you get an exact release date before you see any media. Bizarre.

This game is going to be off the hook. Hands down COD4 was my favorite single player FPS campaign game I've ever played and still is.

I just hope they include zombie maps, that option has created a massive following in itself.

I loved CoD4, and played it even more than W@W. But I don't know if I will ever get tired of Killzone 2. MW2 will have to introduce something really big and attractive to pull me back. I'll buy it either way though because I know it will be good.

100 patterns is hardly enough to fill a house, but enough of that nonsense. I don't like first person shooters, for which i've justified on nuemerous ocassions and if you're going to penelize for that then F-U!

Cod4 was good but not to be over rated, I played the game for hours but Killzone2 -served- cod. I will more than likely check out MW2 though, if I can put uncharted 2 down of course.

yeh we all know k2 served cod in terms o graphics and stuff but cod still has the replayability and gameplay factors over k2 that make it a far more fast game and it just feels natural

KZ2 campaign beat COD4 on some levels but COD4 online is easily the best online game EVER. COD4 is a game i still play today and i rarely play games for that long, COD6 or MW2 will really have to be immense for it to overcome the already high bar that is COD4. I have all the faith in the world directed at Infinity ward, so all the pressure is on them.

i bet some maps will return but infinity ward better come up with some pretty crazy maps and lots of them! I play MW like, 24-7(literly) and im kind of getting bored of the same maps over and over. But, look at the bright side, i know all the maps by heart and im getting good a them. I hope they dont use use the map "Block" in MW2.I hate that one.

#1 entertainment property of the year is possible. Theres not much competition this year besides kz2 and uncharted. (thats if GOW GT and FFXIII dont come out this year) :).. If FFXIII comes out this year, it will be TOP..

I read some info online that -some- of the cod4 multiplayer maps will return, the site I read it on could be full of dookie so who knows. I would say more than likely. Best online game ever? I dunno Xplicit, I just cant get enough of being to become invisible as a sniper, thats just ridiculously bad ass.

It will be interesting to see what they come up with. Maybe I'll finally start playing this series. I know it sounds absurb, but I have never played a COD.

I always played the Medal of Honors on the PS2 and for some reason I always kind of associated Modern Warfare with the X-box 360 crowd. I never bothered to pick it up.

Every time I thought about it there was something else I got instead (Resistance, SOCOM, Warhawk, Battlefield: Bad Company, Resistance2 and now Killzone 2..) Right now Killzone is keeping me pretty happy with my online frag festing, so it will be interesting to see whether MW:2 will be able to finally pull me into the series. Although by that time, there may be another game out that I'd rather play instead...(MAG? Please?)

I am going to have to side a little bit with Ulitmadream though.They are making a pretty bold statement for a game that has no evidence yet to back it up.But someone has turned on the Hype Machine. Let the Wild and Rampant Speculations begin!

That comment is pretty arrogant, but they aren't saying that MW2 will be an awesome game better than KZ2 which is pretty hard to accomplish. What they are saying is that MW2 is going to sell a lot, in that sense I believe them. First of all, MW already has a NAME and a following on both platforms. Second Bioshock is the only multiplat title popular enough to give a fight and IMO MW 2 will outsell it easily.

They have actually said once before, if im not mistaken, that it would be superior to Killzone 2. Not entirely sure if i believe it though, Its going to take a lot more than another CoD game with a few more features to pull me away from Killzone 2... just played CoD MW a few days ago and i was bored to tears

If Uncharted2 were to be multi-plat,then MW2 woulda had some problems,thus i think MW2 will definitely be this year's top entertainment product.

While I think COD is overrated, I might actually buy this one because some people I know really don't want to let go of the FPS set in the real world and move onto sci fi shooters like R2 and KZ2 and I'd really like to game online with them. I think it will definitely compete as a major entertainment player since it will get the typical 360 commercial treatment and be everywhere you look.

Still, I'd laugh if that release date got pushed. They really shouldn't be so presumptuous with no gameplay. I'll just pretend it's because they are teasing us by not showing all the great stuff.

I am a bit fed up with FPSes. KZ2 was everything I was expecting and then more war.perfected. Whether to get or not another FPS depends on how innovative it would be. For example FPS+ RPG elements ala Bioshock or maybe FPS+ stealth elements ala Riddick:DA. No more flashy run and gun for me. More Action adventures, platforms, horror, Jrpg. Please Infamous come soon :D

Highly doubt it. Dream on Activision. If you're game was a Sony exclusive with the technology behind it like a Killzone 2, then maybe. But since you are a multiplat game having to support the 360 brand as well, I'm sure we will not see much more of an improvement over the COD4 franchise.

Cod4 with it's postcard graphics, no moving trees, grass, virtually undestroyable environments, arcade gameplay, unbeleivable physics will not stand up to Killzone 2. Not even close.

Do an experiment. Load you're COD4 up and walk up close to a wall and watch how clunky and pixelated the wall looks like, even objects. Then load KZ2 or Resistance 2 and do the same. You see the Sony Exclusives are much cleaner and smoother up close. Major difference in quality. Then look at how many people KZ2 and Resistance supports online and how amazing it runs, and compare that to any COD game that has been out there. Cod's pale in comparison in all fronts.

Sorry Activision and IW, you will offer just some more maps and a few more improvements and features, but it won't be over the edge. You are limited because you support the multiplatform base. Nice try.

Well, if there weren't so many good titles coming out around the same time frame as this (Uncharted 2, inFamous, GoW III possibly, plus a lot of other good-looking multiplats), I may have believed them. Otherwise, though, this comes off as very cocky and overconfident.

The first one was great back in 2007; however, when its gameplay system was improved upon in subsequent years, it got paler and paler for me. And judging by how there's not much more "modern warfare" they can add to the game, there will probably not be many improvements made to the game's engine. Obviously I hope this assumption is wrong (seeing as how the first game did give me some enjoyment for a couple of months), but it probably won't be.

Plus we don't have any gameplay yet. Who goes about touting a product as "the best entertainment product of the year" and hasn't even shown us anything substantial yet?

Modern Warfare was an excellent game and I enjoyed every second of it. And I'm sure MW2 will also blow us away...

Even thou we all know that it won't measure up against KZ2 when it comes to graphic, physics and just about everything I think it's obvious that MW2 will sell more than KZ2 as it will have a bigger market share. PC/Xbox/PS3...

And as sad as it sounds it will probably beat KZ2 to game of the year, not because it's better but because it sold more and it is on all platforms.

I personally rate KZ2 is way better ,even thou I haven't seen or played MW2. I just can't see how any FPS can live up to what KZ2 achieved any time soon. And when a game games along that might go head to head with Killzone it will definitely have to be an exclusive either on PS3 or PC.

Either way I will get MW2 probably as it launches and it will kick ass. Think it's gonna be great...

I've been playing COD4 today and, to be frank, if the controls don't get less flicky/floaty then I won't bother this time round-maybe just rent.
I guess it's a matter of taste but when I played a little of the KZ2 beta the controls just felt more like you needed some actual skill to be any good at the game unlike Halo and COD4. COD4 and Halo are both games that cuddle you into feeling you're sme kind of FPS god when in actual fact the gameplays pretty shallow.

Now I like the way Halo is accessible and the same with MW. However, due to this it's easy to be pretty good but near impossible to be great at it-like football. You soon find your skill ceiling when the floaty controls act as a leveller for good players and weaker newbies.

In say, Warhwk, KZ2 or , hell, even Gears you get your ass handed to you if your on the server with the big noys right off the bat. If you had to play generals on your first day of Warhawk NOBODY would ever play it again! The learning curve of Killzone 2 is far longer and rewarding than either of the two huge franchises that pander to cheap gameplay and the lowest common denomenator of the genre.

Not that that's wrong just that, to me it leaves them feeling like a little time killer rather than serious shooters that require time and practise to know whether you can really hack it.

MW was a good SP, mind, and All Ghillied Up is one of the greatest levels I've ever played but it was too short. I expect the inevitable crowd pleasing co-op this time but doubt very much there'll be a more intriguing game under it all than you find in KZ2 MP. It isn't better in general it's just more refined and demands that you work at it. after [playing COD4 for two months I was as good as I was getting but with KZ2 I'm barely scratching the surface.
And no they should bever have "fixed" the controls on KZ2 the weight and realism they added should be compulsory. GFX are the least impressive part of the Killzone2 package for me and they're sublime too.

due,just because the controls on MW are easy,doesnt does not mean people who are good at the game do not have true skill. I admint,the controls on MW are easy, but I went 30 and 3 playing online(on MW) and i am still good at other shooting games.

What do u like better KZ2 or MW?

I also like the the level "all gillied up" its fun but, most of the level is close combat and u have a sniper rifle.Aghh, i geuss that is what makes it hard.

i take back what i said before about KZ2 and MW, KZ2 is a pretty awesome game(even though i havent played anything but the the demo)but, i have to buy the game and play the whole thing before i declare it better than MW

Call of duty ehy well i still think call of duty 3 is the best because it has big maps and you don't get fragged every 2 seconds like in cod4 in fact i think im suffering from shell shock because of that game. Ive had endless laughs when playing on Cod3 because of the over the top team killing i had to change my account multiple times because of people leaving as soon as i joined a game but oh well

this game has already got every ps3, 360, or wii exclusive game beat. no killzone, halo, or [insert good wii game here] will be a good as MW2
