MySoti Starts PlayStation Home/Real Life Crossover
PlayStation Home already skirts the boundary of reality, and in some ways, you can even make the inherent fantasy a real...um...reality.
MySoti shirts will soon be ready for purchase in Home, and as an added bonus, MySoti will recreate the shirts you already see in Home, so you can wear 'em around town. Want to design your own? Go for it, and if your design is chosen, you will even see a portion of the profits gained (depending on sales of the shirt, of course). You may be looking at the start of a definite trend; what's next? There's some beautiful property for sale in Home, and maybe we'll start seeing residential architects recreating those virtual spaces for real life use. That may be a bit of stretch, but you never know. Besides, think of all the cool content Home users might be able to create; using the concept of LittleBigPlanet, Sony might want to increase the variety and diversity within Home simply by tapping into the brains of Home participants. We're just looking into the future, but for now, the shirts are a definite start to a real-life/Home crossover.
We know some of you out there fancy yourselves clothes designers. Yeah, just speak up. We know you're out there and we won't make any assumptions.

Imagine it like this, I have an idea to sell a new soda, but I don't know how to make soda. I find this kid who is a whiz at making sodas, and fortunately knows nothing of his self worth, and has no business sense. I tell him, "I'll sell that soda for you, and I'll give you a whole DIME for each one I sell! Doesn't that sound neat-o"! Unbeknownst to said whiz, I make $1.40 off each soda sold.
I realize this is a lame example, but, if these guys at Mysoti actually put this plan into action, (hiring REAL designers), it would cost them an arm and a leg. By putting feelers out, they are effectively getting fresh talent for next to nothing cost, talent who do not know any better. It's the same deal when Korn had a "contest" to design their new album cover, (well, old now). Out of a flood of basically free artwork, they got to pick what they wanted to use, and the fan got "recognition" from their favorite band. It cost Korn nothing. Planters had a contest to design a new logo, (where Mr. Peanut came from), and the winner got "First Place" .... swell!
You might be saying, "But, they are paying us, so why the gripe"? If you are a budding designer, there are other ways of getting your stuff out there, lucrative ways. I have been in this business for far too long to just stand aside without informing any who read this about the ulterior motives at work. With a few emails and a little research, if you wanted to sell designs to people on Home, I'm sure you can figure out how to do it. Design, (and selling design), is not an exclusive club people, ANYONE can do it. You just have to do it, (and be good at it). Good luck!
