Will Square-Enix Announce Kingdom Hearts 3 At E3?

We're big fans of stepping back and taking a gander at the bigger picture. We want to accept and process all sorts of information, and in so doing, we can formulate a somewhat realistic theory that may have some legitimacy.

Let's look at the scenario: first of all, there's no doubt that Kingdom Hearts has been a massively popular franchise for Square-Enix in the past. Secondly, the vast majority of this success came from the first two PS2 installments, and it's probably accurate to say that most fans of the series are Sony fans. At the very least, they've owned Sony platforms in the past, correct? Thirdly, at the start of this new generation, Square-Enix clearly didn't want to toss their lot in with the slow-starting PS3, and as a result, we've seen the debut of The Last Remnant on the Xbox 360 (and the PS3 version may have disappeared), and Star Ocean: The Last Hope was a 360 exclusive. However, tri-Ace is set to announce their new game, and it will be a Square-Enix-published title that will also be multiplatform. That's significant, as we said this past week. Lastly, we'd like to assume that a next-gen KH is inevitable and the timing seems absolutely perfect; E3 may be the launching pad for the return of the Disney-based fantasy RPG. Yeah, it'll probably be multiplatform, but at the very least, that includes the PS3.

Square-Enix has been without a major announcement for quite a long time, and it almost seems as if we're long overdue for something big. We refuse to believe they would ignore the KH franchise, and with the PS3 surging and the combined PS3/360 installed user base exceeding 50 million...well, why not? We can at least hope, can't we?

Crossing my fingers, hopeing and wishing so much, i need another KH game :) i love the first two i really hope they announce it soon and that they keep it a PS3 exclusive so they dont' rush through it and screw it up.

I agree. I think this would be done best if they use the strengths of the ps3 without having to take the limitations of both consoles into consideration. I think tonight I'll have to throw in KH2

Agreed, i want my some KH3, but i'm really not expecting it anytime soon, remember the ppl making FFv13 made kh3 (or did a lot of the work). And thankfully knowing that, the head developer of that group despises the 360 so hopefully it'll be a ps exclusive, but only time will tell\

me either... who wants to play final fantasy with donald duck and mickey mouse??? my disney loving days died a while back... now, if we could get a game that doesn't involve a 120 (give/take) year old mouse, then i'd buy that!!! but lets save disney for the kids...

im 19 and i still love everything disney.
KH and KH2 are in my top5 video games of all time since the day i played them.

i think i almost ******* myself when i watched cloud and sephiroth fight in KH2

Yea,the fact that i saw Donald Duck,Goofy and the rest made me feel it was childish and never picked it up for my ps2.

Though i can tell it was a fun game judging from how ppl recommended it,i see i've missed out on a whole lot.Honestly i regret never given KH a try.

Square-Enix is no longer relevant, they're a joke. Here's what will probably happen:

1. KH3 becomes a 360 exclusive

2. KH3 gets a simultaneous multi platform release with the 360 version getting "exclusive downloadable content" over the PS3 version.

3. KH3 gets a multi platform release with the 360 version getting released first due to "technical difficulties" trying to get the game running on PS3. The game under performs, the PS3 version is all but forgotten into obscurity. A few years down the line a Square Enix announces plans for a sequel, only this time in an effort to appeal to "Amore wistern audince" Mickey Mouse will be carrying a 50 caliber machine gun along with the rest of the Disney crew all carrying fully automatic weapons...

While I love me some final fantasy, I can't get over fighting alongside the likes of Goofy, it just won't compute no matter how hard I try. BUT I know KH is a huge title and for it to remain exclusive would be awesome for the fans.

Problem with the logic here is that Star Ocean had all it's fans on Sony consoles too, and I've become a pessimist thanks to SE and I'm tempted to say "Well, whose to say the new Tri-Ace release won't skip PS3 just like Last Remnant and Star Ocean did?"

I'm hoping that we'll see an announcement for Kingdom Hearts 3. I loved the first two games in the series. I just hope Sora, Goofy and Donald don't have to deal with people like Hannah Montana, the High School Musical dweebs or The Jonas Brothers. Keep them far, far away from this game.

this better be ps3 exclusive. star ocean not on ps3 was a joke. and if KH goes on both platforms that really is stupid and gay. its bad enough that i couldnt get the KH2 upgraged version that was only in japan or w.e it was. if you havent played the KH series you have missed one of the best ps2 games ever.

Although i hate Square-Enix. They are just trying to do whatever that is most beneficial to their company. There are not enough PS3 users in Japan to offset the stacks of cash from Microsoft. Each game i see in japan is doesn't pass 1 million sales.

Not till the PS3 console sales reach 5-7 millions, before any RPG companies shift back to PS3. They will go "screw you Microsoft, we can make actual money without your help now". This probably wont happen until FFXIII releases in Japan. Then probably we'll see a good spike in PS3 sales. Other Jrpgs will follow.

Just patiences guys.

last i checked... there were more ps3's sold in the land-o-rising-sun than the xbox plzfixme's so sales in japan (and the rest of the world except 4 america for that matter) isn't a problem... but the bribes do make a compelling argument...

the corporate mentality: why settle for THIS, when i get THIs, + a litle of THAT!

the diehard game developer mentality: screw THAT, im staying true to the fans... so what if I only get THIS... better than funding a crooked company...

which is S-E??

i think the companies go where there's most sales. When PS2 dominates like 65%+ of the market share. There's no reason to take bribes and make games for xbox to get 1 million sales and lose 5 million for PS2, but now xbox 360 and PS3 sales are close. xbox 360 sales + free cash, its too obvious a choice.

Square-Enix and other companies are never meant to be "loyal" to a console or company. Just so happens that PS1 and PS2 dominated sales in their generations. So companies make games for that console. Just this gen, there's the recession and Microsoft playing dirty. PS3 owners will see their exclusives eventually. PS3 has 10 year lifespan, we got 8 more to see till the end.

I think the Japanese are also the problem,though ps3 is topping in console sales there,ps3's numbers are nowhere near that of NintendoDS.If Ps3 had the sales numbers of the DS then Square would definitely give ps3 more attention.

Now at the West,we have 360 topping the charts not the cot-damn DS so why shouldn't Square give Xbox 360 attention.It's not fair for some games like Last Hope being exclusive for 360,i agree on that one,it's NOT fair.

Japan is also responsible for this Square's controversial attitude.They should buy enough PS3s,not those hand-held games.They're so obsessed with gadgets in their palms with ear-pieces n sh**!

No offence, but I do believe that KH3 will be a while before they announce. Well, it also would not surprise me if it was announced at E3 as well, because that does make sense, just as much as holding the announcements back up untill they know theyre ready to spread the word.

Agreed. Money talks, no matter what or who you are (Ofcourse, unless your Kojima... now thats a different story) but other than that... Bill Gates wouldnt even mind to make a few bucks (Yea, hes the richest man in the world once more but he droped from an estimated 50 billion to 40 billion now.. 10 billion hurts in a spam of a year and a half yes?) But that's just the richest man on earth, imagine a company trying to keep up with these times (Sony lost quit a big bill last year eh?) My verdict is, let the companies do what they need to do in order to survive. Lets look at Midway. It's having problems, and I for one would hate to see it go away, just for the sole fact that ive seen their name around so many times, it almost feels like it woudlnt be the same without them. Just my two cents.

Don't worry that Square Enix, who used to be one of the most loved companys that produced games for Playstion, has continuously turned their back on Playstation fans this generation, and have clubbed baby seals to death in the process.

to stay on topic... I played a little bit of the first KH and didn't really enjoy it all that much really. If the next KH gets released in say ...3 years time from right now, there is a good chance it might be ps3 exclusive. That's quite a ways away, and for all we know MS has already dumped the 360 and is all about this new 720 or whatever. I kinda (hmm) doubt that KH3 would end up completely MS exclusive in this case, or any case really. I don't know, i'm kinda rambling... maybe i'll be more interested if SE announces it as ps3 exclusive.

I like KH but i dont see why the Final Fantasy cast is in the game, they're really ot of place and if they werent in the game it wouldnt make much of a difference.

Though from looking at the trailers they've release, its seems like they're going a bit ovet the top, and you know what i mean by that, ex. Pokemon after the first 151 or Alien after Alien 3.....

yeah BUT KH isnt exactly the type of game that pushes a system to its limits. maybe in content. but not in performance.

they could very well release the game on both consoles and still make it a stellar experience.

as long as it is coming out on the PS3, i dont really mind what els its on, they could even do it using the KH2 engine, and i still wouldnt mind, KH was always about the story and gameplay, not the graphics.

No offence but just because is a SE game doesnt mean they have to shove the FF cast into it, they made a cast for KH which wasnt that bad anyway. Theres no need for the FF cast to be in there the game probaly would have done better without them.

Yeah, you made a great point. It seems Nomura is a playstation loyal so I dont expect to see KH3 on the xbox360.

That said, Nomura needs first to complete FFXIIIversus so even if announced this year, KH3 will be some years away.

What the heck's with that Nintendo DS anyway,personally i sometimes think these handhelds are killing the games industry.

Just heard the new DSi has outsold all hardwares.......just look at this? When consoles like PS3 need a push in sales,things like DSi will come steal the money intended for a ps3 purchase for a DSi instead.

Now you tell me how you expect devs like Square to continue supporting ps3 when most of their Japanese locales keep spending cash on handhelds whiles Westerners invest in consoles like the 360.

One Sony guy named Koller is even accusing Nintendo for not caring about the consumer and that the DSi doesn't offer anything much different from the DS.
Nintendo are just selling hardwares and not softwares,they're starting to piss me off.If handhelds like DS weren't around consoles like PS3 woulda sold out!

While I think it's okay that there's a market for handhelds I can't help but remember the days when they were just for travel, and you always just got a downgraded version of the popular titles: Zelda and Castlevania on Gameboy, Mortal Kombat on Game Gear, etc. I think that's where handhelds belong, if I'm at home I want to be on my console. If I'm at a friend's I'll play with them, but if I'm out and about I oughtta be focusing on the real world, not richarding around with my celly or a DS.

Biggest annoyance: RPG love going to handhelds, it just boggles the mind. I mean cmon, put some money into your project and make it next gen.

I'd be kinda miffed if they made it like, Wii exclusive... 360 exclusive I could at least understand, even though I'd lose all faith in SE forever and never buy anything they made again, but that's at least understandable... MS got pretty much everything they wanted from the deal with SE. What SE got is more mysterious to me. I can see that MS may have slowed PS3 sales in Japan by cozying up to SE with cheques and such and to an extent it worked for a while. however, it hasn't got them any good(not really) games either dev'd or pub'd by SE has it?
SO4 was started way before the PS3 dev kits were out so ignore that one but TLR and co (PS3 version is now dead)sucked and the attempts to make unreal engine jrpg is one of the oddest on record.
Personally, I'd be surprused if, outside Japan KH3 isn't to be 360 exclusive as they(MS) will want something big to show to their own fanbase in NA/UK from this deal. As I said I don't blame MS as they stood to gain from this but SE have been short sighted and I haven't ruled out FF13 being awful and Vs going multi yet. the pressure on FF13 anmd KH3(if it's announced) is already bigger than any games in SE history-on current form who has any faith they can pull this off? They can't on the "easy" 360 so what messes might they give PS3 owners seeing as it's more difficult?

Yes, I know Nomura's still there and he's Sony tinted in his views but apart from slowing Vs going to 360 what's that actually done for us?

SE should have been roasted after trumpeting "only on PS3" about FF13 for years up to last E3. How many people got a PS3 on their words? And how many games have these people now been able to play from the erstwhile fave dev? None thats how many while every other platform(oddly even other Sony ones too)gets loads of SE love with DS and PSP getting the best by far, imo, Dissidia and TWEWY just off the top of my head.

So should we be angry at MS? No. Dissappointed and upset with SE? Damn right-they led folk (their biggest fans mainly) in one direction then deserted them to make shoddy games and publish worse-therefore not endearing themselves to the crowd they aim now to please!

Then they buy Eidos as all of this was supposedly to learn how to exploit the "western" market. By using UE3 and the past their prime Eidos? Good luck with that. All this while not selling any games(by their standards) on the HD consoles? Genius!

Really, no news over KH3 would shock me now-except it being PS3 exclusive/any good. They've lost it, imo, and Vs looks the best atm(not because it's currently PS3 only as that won't last too long either)but is also more niche so just what do they do if FF13 and KH3 suck? They seem spread very thin and if the games don't improve in quality and sales MS will drop them like a really hot turd.

Sorry to anyone that actually read all that but the SE situation is amazing to me, one bad choice after the other and nothing to show for it axcept wasted legacy.
