Square-Enix Producer Kitase Hints At FFVII Remake
'sigh' Your hopes are about ready to rise once again, but don't blame us if they all come crashing down for the umpteenth time.
It may be the longest-running and most popular rumor in the history of video games: a next-gen remake for Final Fantasy VII. But every time we thought we saw new evidence for it, Square-Enix would step forward and say, quite clearly, that no such project is in the works. It has happened time and time again, and we've long since laid the whole fiasco to rest...or so we thought. Check out this OPM UK magazine scan and look at the bottom right. If you don't feel like clicking the link (maybe you're at work or something and don't want to take the risk, even though there is no risk), we'll paste the words of interest right here, straight from FF producer Yoshinori Kitase:
"[For the Final Fantasy VII remake, I can say,] it's a game I've lived with for over ten years, and my emotional ties to it are very strong. So if it were to happen then obviously there would be a lot of thought and work put into it."
Here we go again. Of course, this comment has already sparked a wave of discussion across the Internet, and some are hoping for an actual announcement at the Tokyo Game Show later this year. We can't even begin to list all the reasons Square-Enix has given in the past for why a remake would be unlikely or even impossible, but who knows? Times change, and situations can change even faster in this industry. We'll reluctantly keep a close eye on this but...well, we don't want our hearts broken any more than the rest of you. 'braces'

FFVII has been in production for years - ever since S-E had their FFVII introduction out... they just won't announce the remake until they are almost done... chances are it'll be multi-system
Otherwise - my 2nd and lesser thought... they like to play with our emotions

the point of a remake shouldnt be to update the graphics, it should be to introduce a franchise to a sector of people of which the MAJORITY of whom have never experienced said product.
if ff7 gets remade now, what are they going to do in 10 years when graphics are infinitely better on a system 2 gens higher than these? remake the game AGAIN?

Since SE has obviously dumped their old philosophy of quality games ahead of money and opted for the quick cash instead, why not do this? It would make more money than every Final Fantasy combined.

FFVII story hinges on the fact that everything you know about Clouds past is [Spoiler]False or inaccurate. The only thing you find out is that Cloud was not a First Class soldier, It was Zack a along that he thought he was. Genesis and Angel are insignificant to FFVII, Sephiroth was the only one significant to Cloud. [\spoiler]
If they where to add all that in, that would have to force it in and change the story considerably. Much like what DoC tried to do by discrediting major plot point from FFVII to make its own story work.

think about it
without zack, who would've saved cloud from those experiments???
where would cloud get all those memories of being in SOLDIER and where would he get the buster sword??
granted, angeal and genesis weren't very important from cloud's standpoint but they were very important for zack and to a certain degree sephiroth
but i do agree that it would be nice to have a more solid epilogue

I also have no problem with a bit of deviation. I wouldn't mind incorporating a bit of Crisis Core or On a Way to a Smile, etc. In fact, I encourage it. What a way to get the whole story out to all fans of both the old and new generations.
lol. While they're at it, include the last portion of the story. True, Genesis wasn't the best idea for a villain but finish what you have started Square-Enix.
You are playing with emotional terrorism. We are addicts of your products, yet you dangle little pieces of illusions in front of us hoping to spark something, anything...then do nothing but watch us in agony. If you really are going to do something along the lines of a remake, just say it. If not, STOP BRINGING IT UP!!!! ...I think I just died a little on the inside. How much more can we really take before we breakdown, abandoning those who gave us that idyllic work we all know as Final Fantasy VII?

a prequel would be nice as well, but it'd be cooler to instead include it in the remake itself....
like when you find out about all the stuff about sin and jecht and all that, you actually play the past
it is a big tangent yes, but it'd be worth it
and yes a better epilogue
because the 100% perfect ending of X-2 wasn't very exciting :(

it was nice seeing tidus come back in the "good" ending
but the "perfect" ending was far from perfect
it was kinda meh.... i was expecting a grand finale of sorts
but oh well..... FF X is still my favorite FF to this day

That said, I don't think this is happening, either. He was asked a question about it, and responded with, "IF it were to happen..." I could tell you what I might do IF I were going to kill the president, but that doesn't mean I'm going to do it.

But really...FFVII was a dominating experience on PSX, but why wouldn't we all want FF Versus XIII - it just looks so freaking sick. The third trailer that came out for it is so so epic. I really can't wait to get my hands on it. The third trailer shows so much emotion, gives you a taste of what the story would be like, the awesome music, awesome environment, friends and foes, and REAL TIME FOOTAGE...(at the very end of the trailer where Noctis meets Stella).
Gosh I just can't wait for Final Fantasy Versus XIII...but that won't happen until hopefully early 2011. Gosh...and this game was announced 2006? Lol...oh well. I want them to take their time to make it one awesome Final Fantasy.
But hey if they are coming out with an FFVII remake...bring it and take your time on it...or just screw us over and rush it and just make the most amount of money you can. (sarcasm)

As others have mentioned above, the FF XIII White Engine (they still call it that, right?) kicks ass, and all the work on that is essentially done at this point. One would think programming the FF VII world into this great engine that's already made and all the developers are very familiar with wouldn't take forever or cost too much. But again, we're years away from getting to that point, methinks.

Games related to FF7 like Crisis Core and FFtactics and Dissidia(more broad but y'know)do really well and fit PSP perfectly. they wouldn't have the huge cost a HD remake would have AND the market on PSP is miles nigger than on PS3 alone.
The Japanese PSN release is more of a sop to sony gamers, imo, after many felt conned and stranded in the cold by SE.
Having said this they'll prolly release KH3 and the FF7 remake exclusively in one package for 360 in Japan only! Who knows with SE?

And right after he said all this he said off the record that they were in control of the Duke Nukem Forever project and it was just about to wrap up.
