Assassin's Creed 2: New Hero, More Weapons And Missions

It's certainly one of our most anticipated projects, and although that debut teaser really didn't tell us much, the upcoming edition of Game Informer most certainly will.

As Kotaku reports, the figure you see on the cover of the magazine isn't Altair, the protagonist from the original Assassin's Creed. It may look a lot like him - clothed the way he is - but that's actually Ezio, "a young noble who lost his family to rival families." Details fresh from the feature include: many more weapons including a spear and axe, the ability to swim in water (kinda like the upgrade in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas), "16 unique mission types" (Pickpocketing and Eavesdropping are gone), and the addition of real-life historical figures like Machiavelli. You'll have to pick up the magazine later this month to read the rest, but it's already shaping up to be a definite step up from the original. We adored the first one, contrary to the claims against it, and we have no doubt that Ubisoft will produce a stellar sequel. We kinda wanted to have Altair back, but in retrospect, he didn't have much of a personality and we can probably see a lot of him in Ezio. And we absolutely love the idea of playing in 15th-century Venice; the possibilities seem endless, and it's a damn good thing Ezio can swim, right?

We'll bring you more on Assassin's Creed 2 whenever the info becomes available; you can be sure that it's pretty damn high on our priority list.

Definitely good news, I would have picked up AC2 even if it had the same gameplay, however it is nice to see that they will be improving it.

Sequels of games like this can only get better, when they build on the original formula. And not being able to swim in Venice would be really....really dumb.

The 1st was good, but definitely overrated IMO. The ending if you want to call it that was one of the worst ever, but even so I'm actually very excited about this sequel. Seems like another year were sequels will rule. KZ2, AC 2, BioShock 2, Uncharted 2...

New hero....... oooooooooooh i dunno if thats a wise decsion, remember DMC4?

Though i did enjoy playing through Assassins Creed once, though it was painfully repetitive, thats the main thing they need to sort out this time.

I liked DMC4 and Nero is way cooler than Dante

Yeah, Nero had a good change in gameplay mechanics. Gotta learn to appreciate having to change your strategy.
Besides, what's the problem with changing a barely established main character that, as stated in the article, barely had a personality in the first place?

Altair was great , but needed more depth to be really memorable . I hope this game explains the mysteries left unresolved in the last game .

Please Ubisoft , let us assassinate some people in the dark .

I don't have a PS3 yet but I heard a lot of good things about Assassin's Creed. I've seen it in action too and I absolutely love the graphics on it.

When I read the review it seemed to be an average good kind of game. But I'm most definitely going to pick it up sometime once I get my PS3.

But wow...I kind of like the sound of the 2nd one. These new mission types, a spear and an axe, swimming, VENNICE!!! But yea it sounds cool. I can't really comment on the whole character thing since I barely know anything about Altair. But for some reason I have a feeling he'll show up one way or another in the sequel. Let's see how it goes.

Hmm...I guess I'm ok with a new hero, but what about Desmond? The dude left behind in the lab at the end with his new Eagle Vision. The story line of the Pieces of Eden is totally dropped? I'm sure the next one will be as good as the first, but there was such opportunity for good story continuation.

I'm sure Desmond's story is far from over. Ezio is probably another ancestor of his. Desmond is/was an assassin after all, so it makes sense that many of his ancestors were as well. I bet this one will take place after Altair's time but probably still well before Desmond's.

Hmm... I hope its better than the first one. AC grew way to repetitive, way to quickly. Hopefully they will spice the game up a little and add some verity.

Pickpocketing and eavesdropping are gone? Hmmm... If they get rid of those stupid blue walls and allow me to explore the whole city then I'll give it a try.

Wait, is Venice the only city?

Let's clear this up. Desmond IS the main character in AC. The ancestor assassin will be different for each game up until we get a game for the present time. Desmond will eventually don the white mantle and finally assassinate that old fart.

For all you haters, AC was/is an amazing game. I'd say groundbreaking in fact. Sure it was repetitive but what game isn't? The climbing mechanics, story telling, pushing people out of the way ? What was there not to like?

The ONLY thing ... Altair is a cooler name than Ezio. How do you even pronounce that?

Just kill Desmond and remove the VR bull**** and it shall prevail into an superior sequel to a truly groundbreaking game set in the 15 century

Oh my god the hype. It could disappoint you know like the setting Venice better not be the only city &.... it should have the ability of travelling to different cities on horseback which won't take at least 100 years to arrive

I'm going to get game informer on 4/16/09 like the end of the trailer says backwards-y mirror-y and I'll probably buy this game right when it comes out; the first one was one of my favorites because you could push chubby people down stairs and then stab guards and the guards wouldn't care about pushing the chubby people.

Or if you stabbed the chubby people, the guards wouldn't notice, but if you push a guard slightly, they'll come to slaughter you.

The first one was decent, i definitly liked playing it for a bit...replayability was like nil and no support from Ubisoft to update it or add dlc. Only thing that makes no sense to me...the end of the first one...it made me think of more of a sequel with Altair...not a whole new character...so is this like prequel and then sequel?
