End Of Eternity Environment, Gameplay Details Discovered
Well, the day after I remind everyone to keep an eye on End of Eternity, we stumble across a bunch of new details. Ain't life grand sometimes?
According to PS3Center, some of the information from that Famitsu feature has been translated, and we've got some interesting structural and gameplay details for you. First of all, the structure you see in the screens (follow the link) comprises the "main area of the game," and it's actually separated out into classes. The wealthy get to live at the top while the poor have to inhabit the lower levels, and whatever that structure is, it's big enough to include whole towns, cities and dungeons. As for the gameplay, the battles will be based around random encounters (never thought we'd see those again, huh?), and when in battle, you can move your characters around in "semi-real-time," and the position of your allies and the enemies will have a direct impact on the effectiveness of attacks. This sounds a lot like Star Ocean: The Last Hope, tri-Ace's last project, but it also reminds us of Suikoden III, which may actually fit the description better.
The question is whether or not the actions will b e carried out in real-time; if they aren't, and the foundation is turn-based, your character will move to the required position to execute the action. For example, if it's a physical attack, you'll have to be near the enemy, but if it's a healing spell, you can maybe stay where you are. This was how we did things in Suikoden III, but in The Last Hope, everything is moving in real-time, so it'll be interesting to see how the combat in End of Eternity plays out. Keep it here for more details as they become available.

JRPGs used to be known for a more whimsical approach, anime influences in their art style and not generally speaking gun based combat.
I hope that End of Eternity a) is turn based with positioning in semi-real time rather like the combat in Valkyria Chronicles but on a smaller scale, and b) doesn't feature exclusively gun based combat (remember Xenosaga featured a lot of guns of one sort or another - so it can work) with some physical attacks, some sword play and some magic/special ability types of attack.
@LegendaryWolfeh
I disagree, I don't think that you can directly compare a typical JRPG with a typical WRPG. The genre are too different, their focus is too different. I guess it depends on how broad a criteria you use for describing an RPG.
