3D Realms Reaches Duke Nukem Forever "Milestone"
Psst...hey. Over here. 'glances furtively around, then whispers'- "word is, 3D Realms is on the Duke Nukem Forever home stretch!" 'runs away'
Oh yes, we do have another update for you, but like all the updates of the past 11 years or so, it doesn't really tell us much. According to 3D Realm's George Broussard's Twitter update, the team may be closing in on completion of the fictional shooter. The message is this:
"Closing out a milestone this week. 71 more tasks to do and we started with probably 800-900. Been a good push. Next one starts Monday."
We're not entirely sure what "tasks" indicate in the post, but if there are 800-900 and it has taken this long to get to 71 remaining, does that mean they'll be done in 2011? Or is my math incorrect? Anyway, we'd also be interested in a platform confirmation of some kind; last year, we had heard they were planning to bring DNF to multiple platforms. But we haven't heard anything since, which is the exact MO we're dealing with. They let the rumor run its course and when things are slowing down, they come up with something else. It's the most ingenious prank in the history of gaming, really.
But hey, we've been wrong before. Maybe Duke Nukem Forever will get an official release date at E3; maybe it'll launch in 2010 and be one of the best shooters ever. Oh, wait...3D Realms isn't scheduled to participate in this year's E3. It's probably because they have nothing to say.

The previous 829 have been one of three,
1) Sitting on lazy arse
2) Sending out random bullsh*t rumors to press
3) Considering what random bullsh*t rumor to release next.
These have been repeated constantly over the last, what's it been? 2 million years (they began brainstorming and creating code in the stoneage on cave walls).

The engine for "Duke" is so technically advanced that it's been "acquired" by the government and is now currently running our defense grid, utilities, and computer infra-structure.
Saying "it's still in development", is actually "plausible-deniability".
You don't have to wait to play "Duke"...
you're IN it!.....

It did actually start life on the Quake II engine, then in '98 went to the Unreal Engine, then in '99 it went to an upgraded Unreal Engine, and was projected for a 2000 release. In 2002 they scrapped most of the work they'd done and switched to a custom engine that incorporates some parts of Unreal Engine 2.0, and so on and so forth (see I wasn't kidding about the game engine switching).
So the game has been pure vapor for 12 years, always coming soon, always teased and never seen. Duke Nuken Forever - DNF lives up to the acronym at least.
DNF - Did Not Finish.

For this game to succeed critically it would have to be equivelent to the second coming of christ in gaming.
