SCEA: GoWIII Collectors May Not Include GoW Remakes

A lot of you freaked right out when you learned that the first two God of War titles might be included on the Blu-Ray disc for the God of War III Collectors Edition. But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

As Kotaku reports, Sony isn't about to confirm anything and reminds everyone that this was just a survey. The problem is, the current PlayStation 3 units don't feature backwards compatibility for PS2 software so that would obviously cause a problem. Said an SCEA rep:

"It is simply a marketing survey. The goal of it is to do focus group testing. We're just trying to find out what would resonate with the God of War community. If that was the number one requested thing, that would be something they would need to see if that was most technically feasible."

They're not ruling anything out, mind you, but just because it's hotly requested doesn't necessarily mean it's going to happen. The rep went on to say they can "put more content" on a Blu-Ray disc so that would help, but again, they'd have to work through a variety of potential technical issues before this could become feasible. If the fans want it badly enough, it could still happen...Sony just doesn't want you to accept it as inevitable fact.

For our part, this is what we care most about: we want GoWIII to rule.  That's it.

Is it possible to port if from PS2 to PS3...I mean if they do it with Playstation and Shitbox titles, why cant they cross generational platforms...if that makes any sense...

Cause I by no means really ever see the functional purpose for a collectors edition of any game but this would just be too good an offer to pass up...

How could "shitbox" include the GameCube? That was actually a respectable console.

I like this, because it's not completely hypinf us up but at the same time it's not destroying our hope. Good job Sony.

Figure;

GOWI: $50
GOWII: $50
GOWIII: $60

Plus other extras I figure that since time has passed since the releases of the original two, they would only charge about $120 at the most...also they would probably have a team polish up the graphics on the first two anyway if this where to happen...

Actually if you think about it, GoW I and II are both at your local wal mart for 20 bucks. The media that they are on is DVD, you think that BluRay can hold a ton more, put both games on one disc. Problem solved. Ya save money with the media, all they would have to do is pay someone to convert the file saves for the original 2 games to that, that the PS3 can read. You will have to load the same disc for 2 seprate games, but they do that with dvd's. And if the games are to big for the BluRay, compress them to the same quality of the original copies. I have held out on buying GoW I and II for some strange reason... I think I finally know...

I would love to see this, and I would definitely pick up the collectors edition if It came with the original games. I played through GOW once way back when, but never seen the 2nd one. I have a b/c system but I would still love having these on a single blu-ray. Hope this happens! Kinda too good to be true though.

I say spray a new coat of paint on GoW I and II with the God of War II Engine and Give us what we want, a Package with atleast 60 hours of gameplay with all 3 titles combined...Playing all 3 in a Marathon back to back....it would be GLORIOUS!!!!

They still have about a year to figure out how to do it, but I DO really hate when a survey yields incredible results for one option and then they don't do it. 3 games for the price of a CE? Yeah I think that would cause sales to skyrocket.

I support this God of War collection 100%, gives me a chance to play the games i missed last gen, but lets be realistic guys, if its THAT easy to play PS2 games on PS3, it would've been done long ago. There must be some technical problems that is holding them back from collecting our cash.

if sony wouldn't have abandoned backwards compatibility, this wouldn't need any second thought...

i have an original 80gb ps3, so back-comp is 2/3 included... so I'l prolly buy both even if they don't include it in the CE..

If they actually made a CE of all God of wars it would sell faster than a halo on ice.

I guess the could do the whole "God of War: Essential Collection" like Kojima did with MGS haha. To be completely honest...I haven't played God of War 1 or God of War 2. But wow I really see how freaking popular it is with people. So that made me download the demo of Chains of Olympus from the PS Store...and boy...it's FUN!!

Can't wait to get all 3. I really have to live the PS2 generation which I missed out on...due to...being young and not understanding what great games were.

well its april now and its probably gonna be march before its released so i think they have plenty of time to work through the technicalitys on this. Sony definately need to make this hapen. the only problem i can see is that if they do work it out more people will be demanding them to make th ps3 backwards compatible through software emulation and we all know that goes against what Sony have to say about this generation of gaming.

There's no chance in hell they're going to include the first two games in a GOWIII CE. What they'll do is release the GOWIII CE with the standard tom foolery additions. Then, when all the fans have it and have played it to death, then they will release the GOW Compilation. It will be released simultaneously with the PS3 BC software.

@Ultimadream - One... simply... does not... lose interest... in... GOW.

so may be this will drive sony to make backwards compatability a feature of ALL ps3s.
ive got a launch ps3 so i can play most ps2 games.
but to tell you the truth ive NEVER played a ps2 game on my ps3 but i still want sony to make this happen.
may be port them as ps3 games on a bluray disk.
i dont care how they do it fuse it in shit if you have to.
i havent played GOW 1 so this would be the perfect opertunity for me to play it

If they could add the first two games, that would be AMAZING. I personally don't care since I have the games for my PS2, but it would allow some people who missed out to catch up on the series. I'm replaying God of War 2 on Titan Mode right now actually. I have to say...the game has aged well. I am unbelievably hyped for God of war 3.
