Marvel vs. Capcom 2 Practically Confirmed! Official Next Week!
Guys, brace yourselves, because this news is pretty damn epic. Have you been pissed off beyond belief at the eBay prices for a copy of Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for either the PS2 or Xbox? Have you scoured game stores all around your area in hopes of finding a copy? Let alone finding a copy that's in decent shape? Have you maybe considered just jacking the unused arcade cab at your local pizza place? If you've answered yes to any of those, well, dammit there is relief.
The folks over at TheGameReviews publish a little column they like to call "Rumor Killers" and in it, they predict the likelihood of a rumor as being plausible or not. One recent rumor to have hit the net is that Capcom is planning a downloadable release for Marvel vs. Capcom 2 for the PlayStation Network and XBLA. The rumor started when MvsC2 was recently rated by the ESRB for the PS3 and X360, if you recall we brought you that story last October of 2008. As if that wasn't confirmation enough, a whole list of achievements appeared on Xbox360achievements.org, tallying a total of 200 points, and none of which seem suspicious or fake.
Then, people spotted online retailer ShopTo.net taking pre-orders for a Marvel vs. Capcom Tournament Edition arcade stick for the X360, which has since been pulled. Hmmm, seems like someone's hiding something? Now here's where T.G.R. did a little digging of their own, a teaser site has recently popped up called tu4ar.com, now the logical guess is that it means "Take You For a Ride". T.G.R. did not mention this, but the significance behind "Take You For a Ride" is that it's the name of the character select song in Marvel vs. Capcom 2. And if you visit the site, you can clearly see a countdown with large "2" in the background, although not in the same font/style as that of MvsC2's slanted "2".
The countdown will expire next Monday, which marks the end of the media embargo for Capcom's Captivate '09 Gamers Day. But wait, there's more. If you needed further proof, the domain name tu4ar.com is registered to Capcom, and transfers data from Capcom themselves. Furthermore, and this is the nail in the coffin, T.G.R.'s digging reveals this domain: http://dev02.capcomusa.net/mvc2gmt, where you can see the game's initials written out plain as day.
There is absolutely no doubt left anymore, Marvel vs. Capcom 2 is headed to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. I do have to wonder, if Capcom has made such a big fuss about keeping this game so under wraps, is it more than just a straight port? After the trouble Capcom had with getting Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD up and running properly, we doubt they'd want to go through the hassle with the massive roster of fighters in MvsC2.

Expensive I know!
But if you buy it during GameStop's B2G1 sale or during a week when the store offers a 20% coupon off PS2 games (like this week, valid through Thursday), coupled with your 10% discount if you have an Edge card, you could get the game for $56.
The best thing is GameStop dot com has it in stock, as do a bunch of stores in my area. So, if you really want it, it is not that HARD to find.
I never understood why so many people have been complaining about the scarcity of this game when GameStop has had it in stock for years.
On a closing note, it is ridiculous that GameStop is selling this game for $30 more than its retail price when the game was released. When did GameStop get into the "collectible" market by raising a game's price above the MSRP?

And then I get to what I think of the game...
Its not good. MVC2 is probably the most unbalanced fighting game ever created. Its all right if you play it with a buddy you actually know in real life. You two will must likely just do it for fun. But online with a ranking system, against people you don't know? Have any of you played this in arcades against anyone with a competitive nature? Your going to be playing against the exact same team as they spam projectiles at you.
Online will remind everyone why this game was never meant to be online. Give it a week after this comes out and prepare for rants everywhere around the internet.

I played the first one a bit in arcades, don't remember if I played the sequel at all, but all this talk of buying a game that's a decade old for MORE than original retail price is retarded, limited print or not, let it go.
I am a caring and loving person, but if you spent that much money for a vid game, you need a helmet cause I don't know how you cross a street without hurting yourself. lol
Still, I wish they'd release a demo version or something for people who don't wanna risk the $10-20 on something they're not intimately familiar with. I love fighting games, and would give the demo a chance for sure.

MvC2 suffered from having too many characters. Balance with a number that large was probably imposable. But even then it was as if they didn't even try. 95% of the characters could easily, and with out any effort be taken out by the remaining 5%.with about a good 75% of the characters being near useless.
But if people like it, I hope the make it the best they can for you all!

I am all set for that if it ever comes, or this has been ported as a PS3 title.
I have doubts that this game will be coming to the PS3. I would love it, but unless the reason that the PSN is going down this weekend is to provde the ability to play a PS2 game through the PSN directly or through a software emulator... How am I gonna play this title on a no BC PS3??
Something may be happening here, and I hope it is good news for PS3 users that did not get the 20/60 systems.
