Grandia Online Returns To Limelight, Demo Set For May
It has been well over three years since we first heard that GameArts was planning to produce a MMORPG based on the popular role-playing franchise, Grandia. But obviously, it has fallen off the radar since and most RPG fans have probably forgotten about the news.
Well, it's back. As Gamer Limit reports, a page at GungHo has reignited the talk of Grandia Online. Evidently, it's currently being designed for the PlayStation Network and they're scheduling an upcoming playable demo for 60 players. The demo session will kick off on May 20 in Tokyo's Akihabara and furthermore, Sony will celebrate the long-awaited event with the re-release of the original Grandia (presumably as a downloadable title for the PSN). Now, just for the record, we don't have official confirmation that Grandia Online is coming to the Network; we're merely assuming it will, and you know what happens when we make assumptions... Let's just hope we'll get the finalized details and information some time soon, as most role-playing fans recall the Grandia games with a certain nostalgic fondness. The original remains one of the best-reviewed RPGs of the PlayStation era, and although subsequent installments on the PS2 didn't quite cut the mustard in the eyes of many die-hard fans, we'd love to see a new entry. It's a little strange that it'll come in the form of a MMO, but hey, it's a brave new world.
We'll let you know whenever we can dig up anything fresh for Grandia Online; being old-school RPG fans ourselves, we'll definitely keep a close eye on the proceedings.
