Rumor: Matthew McConaughey To Star As Nathan Drake?
The sheer number of games that are set for their feature film debut is either exciting or worrisome. We all know that Hollywood can effectively destroy a great game or even an entire franchise; terrible game-to-movie adaptations are common.
But they had best not screw up a movie based on Naughty Dog's Uncharted series (the second title, Among Thieves hits later this year). Granted, the premise is perfect for a movie - it's basically a modern-day Indiana Jones - but Hollywood has proven they can screw up just about anything. We don't have any solid info on this project just yet, but according to ThePlayStationNetwork, Matthew McConaughey is in line to star as Nathan Drake. The popular actor has been in almost too many movies to mention, and his list of credits certainly includes similar films that might make him familiar with such a role. For our part, we find Drake to be a little more sardonically serious; we think McConaughey might be a bit too laid back for this character. But hey, he's an actor, right? He should be able to make the mold and step right into it. This is another one of those times where we can easily say, "oh, an Uncharted movie? ...that sounds like it could be great!" And we'll just stick with that; optimism is essential.
We'll let you know if any more details pop up about this project, which certainly hasn't been confirmed just yet. How many more games will make their way to the big screen?

they have their voices, but you want someone that looks like them, and im pretty sure the games characters arent molded after what their voice over looks like.
just like Christian Bale playing Solid Snake. David Hayter does the voice, but looks absolutely nothing like snake, bale is the correct decision.
McConaughey has done several 'treasure hunting' films so he should be able to make this one work.

Someone posted below that Ben Browder would be good as well. I completely agree. I'd be happy if either Fillion or Browder got the role.

Yes, he would make a great Nathan Drake. If they wanted a slightly British air to the character David Tennant would work well too, although lots of folks might not believe he's 'buff' enough.
Another possible choice is Ben Browder who does 'actiony' stuff, has the acting chops to manage this kinf od slightly sardonic hero part and actually looks very like Nathan Drake as well. I be he's a tad cheaper than Matthew McConaughey, and probably at least as well known (perhaps better known) to the kinds of movie goer that an Uncharted movie would target.

Did they even offer it to Nolan North, the guy that Nathan Drake was modeled after? He already acted out quite a few of the motions during motion-capture for the game.

Like Nathan Drake he has the cheekiness about him, but, 1. He doesn’t look like him and 2. He is too old to play this part. Nathan Drake looks like he is in his early/mid twenties and Matthew McConaughey is now 39, which means by the time this film goes into production he will be about 40, so he should just stick to his romcom movies.
My recommendation for the part as Nathan Drake is Matt Mullins.
Matt Mullins did some of the Motion Capture for Uncharted:Drake’s Fortune (I’m not sure about Uncharted 2) which means that he has the moves to carry it off, also he shares a big resemblance to Nathan Drake. Check him out, see what you think. I think he is ideal for this part: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1280538/

I agree with Heavenly_King, if they're really investing their time into an Uncharted movie, at least give the role to the man who made Nathan Drake come to life, Nolan North. Whoever mentioned Nathan Fillion, well... he isn't a bad choice either, I suppose... But Nathan Drake is already a pretty realistic character as it is… I find it difficult to imagine anyone (aside from North) actually portraying him in a movie.
In my opinion, I think a movie version of Uncharted is a HUGE waste of time. Just like Resident Evil and Tomb Raider and the pieces of crap THOSE movies are (no offense to anybody who enjoys them) in comparison to the games. There's a huge potential for screwing it up. It almost never fails when it comes to film adaptations of video games. The game is already so close to a movie (kind of the point, isn't it? to have a cinematic gaming experience?)... so why the heck would they even consider making an actual film about it?! Isn’t that a bit redundant? Doesn't that kind of defeat Uncharted's purpose?
If they decide to make this movie and mess it up, I’ll personally punch Naughty Dog in the face for giving them the rights to something that should be a huge achievement and a pat on the back for them, not something that they can just make a quick buck off of with a movie. I love Uncharted, it's amazing just the way it is and it doesn’t deserve to be another crappy movie :P
Of course, there’s always the chance that they’ll find a way of breaking the mold of the video-game-movie-curse and actually do it right...
I guess we'll see. But that's not gonna happen with McConaughey :P

Nathan Fillion, Ben Browder, and Joe Flanigan would all be great as Nathan Drake. These are by far the best options... I wish the people in charge of hiring an actor for this movie could hear our opinions!
also, I hope the film developers at least play the game for once. This would be terrible if they made Uncharted another crappy video game movie.

from The Listener looks like him, but most importantly when i watch it he reminds me of Drake because of the way he acts. He has the right everything to be Nathan Drake
