Uncharted 2: Among Thieves Is The Favorite For Game Of The Year
It's usually a bad idea to make predictions, but as we've scrutinized the list of titles scheduled for 2009 - and we've done it more than once - we're starting to think that Uncharted 2: Among Thieves will run away with many Game of the Year awards from various major publications once the year is over. Its closest competition could very well be Killzone 2, but sometimes, we just have to admit that an extended period of time between a game's release and the GoY Awards translates to diminished interest. This is why they try to produce Oscar hopefuls towards the end of the year.
You've probably been reading some hands-on impressions of the game, and we're positive you know all about the upcoming multiplayer beta test. Well, we saw the game in action a little while back and Arnold says it's the best-looking console game he's ever seen. Yes, ever. Then, if you take into account that the first game was absolutely phenomenal, and the addition of multiplayer and even more gameplay enhancements for the sequel...well, it's difficult to argue. God of War III won't make it until next year and although we're holding out hope for Gran Turismo 5, we seriously doubt it'll happen. Many games have plenty of potential this year but if there's one thing we're 99.9% sure of, it's that Uncharted 2 will be yet another absurdly refined and wonderfully satisfying action experience. Everything we've seen and heard thus far puts it further and further ahead of most any other title on the horizon, and again, only Killzone 2 appears to be a major contender for the crown.
It's going to be gorgeous. It's going to feature the same rock-solid mechanics from Drake's Fortune, only with the added benefit of more options and diversity. The story is going to be deeper and more involving as we've heard about a stronger emphasis on Drake's character. There's going to be competitive and co-op multiplayer. Now, we hate to be rash and say, "just give Uncharted 2 the big award right now," but we will certainly say it's a favorite. Or perhaps, to be more accurate, the favorite. Anyone have any objections?

GT5 will be awesome (and probably the best racer ever), but it just cant do as much as Uncharted.

GT5 will be like the sweetest of candies for racing fans, tight controls and pretty visuals, but it's pretty cut and dry. Race, upgrade, race, etc. For my money, I'd like a game that draws you into it's story and environment, shows you something you've never seen and lets you do things you could never do in real life. If I want to play football, I'll go outside. If I want to drive a car, I'll hop in mine. But if I want to scale a cliff side as it's collapsing while fending off pirates and avoiding traps, then I'm probably gonna pop in ole' Drake and fire up the PS3.
No real offense to all those who love sports and "realistic" racing games, I play em every now and then, but I prefer a game with a little imagination. Especially if it's fighting for that coveted GOTY award. lol

Guess what, if I want to scale a cliff, I'll go and grab my brother's harnesses, ropes and other belaying equipment. Equally, I could jump in my BMW, and go driving around in that.
So, no offense, but you really gave no real reasons why Uncharted 2, will fair any better than Gran Turismo 5 in the run for GOTY, however, I can safely say, it won't sell nearly as many units.

I never said it was breaking new ground or it was going to be game of the year. But typically GOTY goes to a product with the most appealing combination of graphics, gameplay elements (including multiplayer,) level/track design and story.
While I have no doubt GT5 will sweep any Best Racing Game category, it will have to do something really special and unexpected to be nominated for the grand prize.
Guess what? If you go scale cliffs as they collapse under you while fending off pirates and avoiding traps in real life, then more power to you. Seems a bit dangerous to me, which is why I play games rather than risk my neck. What's that? Oh you left out the second part of my example cause you were trying to make a point? How's that working for ya?
A BMW! GOOD FOR YOU!!! You throw that out there looking for respect?
Sorry, cheap shot, but come on!
I'll gladly eat my words if GT5 pulls a rabbit out of it's tail pipe and wows the industry, but I'm fairly certain GOTY is going to a game that goes above and beyond a race track.

You're the one who made the comment about 'jumping in your car' if you want to drive. Point is, if I want to climb, I can do that, if I want to drive, I can do that too. Follow? Or should I slow down for you to catch up?
Don't really care what you do with your words. I'm merely saying, Uncharted 2, has less of a chance to get GOTY, than Gran Turismo 5. Period.

Exactly what is it that GT5 does that's new? I am missing something I guess. I'm wondering why you're defending something you've never played, and condemning something you've also never played. Now that sounds retarded to me.
Yes, I said if I wanted to drive I'd hop in my car. You were the one dropping a brand name like it means something. Comes across as self-important and a bit smug, but I guess that's all we can expect from someone who signs every post.

Again, we're going round and round here over the same basic point. GT and Uncharted really don't do much that's 'new' for anything. However, GT has, and always will lead the way in realism both for cars, and the tracks that accompany the game. Whereas, what really...has Uncharted done that's not just repackaged Tomb Raiding? Don't get me wrong, I've 100% it 3 times...but seriously, I can accept that Uncharted really just repackages Tomb Raider in a shiny new box, it was fun as hell, but still, not really worthy of GOTY. And...just because it has Multiplayer, doesn't mean it's automatically awarded it either.
So...my having a BMW seems smug to you? Maybe I dropped the brand name, because it's something that I can and have played around with in GT? Maybe, it's simply you who's insecure with your vehicle and or current status in life...or lackthereof? Personally, I don't really care. I'll enjoy both games, and my car.
I still say GT5 will have more of a chance for GOTY than Uncharted 2. GT series always breaks new ground in physics, realism and hopefully from what we're hearing, racing teams creation and the like.

Now if someone does that with God of War III or GT 5....oh boy they will know who was the one who gave the bad rating and delete your account.

I'm now a bit doubtful on U2, has it been said to be a co-op game like RE5 which a female bot, or is there single campaign just one character one there own at a time.

Modern Warfare 2
Uncharted 2
Bioshock 2
Infamous(I really hope)
Killzone 2(only on a few sites or shows, not everyone loved it)
Street Fighter 4
This is just from what we know about though, there is no way microsoft is going to not put out any more exclusives this year, so E3 will be a big show for them, but an even bigger show for sony since they are now in the lead with software. Oh and Nintendo.....maybe Wii Play 2: the return of useless minigames? All around, going to be a great year, and I can't wait!

Was a bit dubious when rumoured that Uncharted 2 would have multiplayer, but after seeing video, I'm hoping that if Naughty Dog can pull of the same graphics and gameplay (though i'm sure it's been said that U2 will use more of the PS3's processing power than the original)as the first, then this is going to be a great game. Like others' have said though, I just hope that single player hasn't been sacrificed (but i'm sure it hasn't).

I'm sure I will love it, and it should receive high praise for its story, the innovative way it TELLS the story, the artistry and atmosphere, etc. But like Indigo Prophecy, which sported these same bonuses, I believe it will be lacking in the actual gameplay department. It won't be bad, per se, but I do believe it will certainly play a secondary role in the production.
Games like this NEVER get Game of the Year. There just isn't enough there in terms of overall interactivity. It might get individual awards - especially for the story - but Game of the Year is out of the question. Mark my words.

i love the first mission with the crime scene then straight after you play as the detectives. My only problem with Farenheit is that it when a bit to far on the supernatural side, but apparently Heavy Rain isnt ment to go that far so i reckon it will be fantastic.

You a re right though, Killzone 2 will be forgoten by the time GOTY awards start to roll out, it wont even be mentioned, thats waht happens when you release AAA material so early on the year.....
Anyway I think you jumped to conclusions way to quick on this one Ben, too many AAA games yet to really show what they are made off, you might change your opinion once E3 rolls out

for example elder scrolls oblivion are you kidding?
COD4 seriously bioshock is 1000 times better.
fallout 3? o please MGS4 GTAIV resistance 2 were all better games than that glitchout 3.
its the best RPG ive ever played but still it cant run with the big boys.
in my mind devil may cry 4 should of got GOTY but as i said games that deserve it never get it.
so i wouldent be suprised if MW2 or assasins creed 2 gets it.
i would be extremly suprised if a ps3 exclusive gets it.
