FFXIII Has 1080p Native Resolution?
If it's going to be one of the prettiest games we've ever laid eyes on, shouldn't it run in the highest possible resolution available? Or is that just a pipe dream?
In this new age of high-definition gaming, it's easy to misunderstand the technical jargon, but let's just say there's a difference between software that natively runs in the highest possible resolution - 1080p - and software that upscales to that resolution. For instance, as gorgeous as Uncharted: Drake's Fortune was, it only ran in native 720p resolution; your PlayStation 3 would automatically select that setting when it read the disc. You can upscale to 1080p but unless the software natively supports it, the picture won't look the same (and of course, you have to have a TV that supports the maximum 1080p to even take part in this debate). Anyway, we've all been wondering if Final Fantasy XIII will run at a native 1080p and according to FF-XIII.net, the answer is "yes." Well, maybe. The PS3 automatically chooses the 1080p option to run the demo - the one that came with the Blu-Ray edition of "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" in Japan - but it's difficult to say if this is native or otherwise...
Evidently, certain aspects of the demo make it seem as if Square-Enix will give us a game that natively runs in 1080p, while other parts of the demo appear to be upscaled. They've got a couple shots at FF-XIII.net to examine - each a picture of Lightning's face - so you can see the difference...can you see it? Perhaps Square-Enix will clear this up in the coming months; does FFXIII go whole-hog and give us the best of the best when it comes to high-def visuals?

Oh and let's see...how it ends up on the 360 - can't wait for the differences to appear.

1080i is exactly the same resolution as 1080p except it's interlaced. In effect 1080p is 60 frames a second, and 1080i is 30, but the 30 1080i frames are sent as 60 halves that are then interlaced (reassembled). So each 1080i frame is a complete 1920x1080 in resolution.
720p is about 1Mpixel, 1080p is about 2Mpixel. 1080i and 720p use about the same amount of processing to achieve. However for fast action titles 720p is preferrable since it is smoother. 1080i is fine for games with slower less 'real time' graphics, and in a RPG (depending on the combat system) 1080p shouldn't be an issue.

I've seen some other TV's that are way bigger but the picture just isn't as good as the Bravia's quality.Even 720p looks freakin' amazing on the Bravia. So I can just imagine what native 1080p will look like.....
All I can say after all the disappointment we had by the hands of Square-Enix that is the least they can do and make the PS3 run at native 1080p. If the 360 can't handle it because of disk space or whatever then let them run it at 720p-1080i. But DON'T shaft us just because the 360 can't have it in 1080p.
If they actually adhere to my prayers here, we'll see the PS3 version definitely outsell the 360 at 8:1 at least. Might even move more consoles than any other game thus far...
