Batman: Arkham Asylum Delayed
Well, perhaps it's for the best. We always try to find the bright side of bad news, and let's face it: there are plenty of potentially great titles scheduled for June.
One of them used to be Batman: Arkham Asylum, which until yesterday, held a June 23 launch date. Game Informer first suggested the possibility of a delay, as an Eidos insider said the game had slipped closer to the fourth quarter of 2009. For a while, we couldn't confirm the facts one way or the other, but it finally came to light that Arkham Asylum will now release towards "the end of the summer," which will come as a definite disappointment to those who have been looking forward to some top-quality Caped Crusader fun. Eidos PR sent us an email and stated the following:
"Eidos Interactive and Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment can today confirm that Batman: Arkham Asylum will be released at the end of summer 2009. This additional time will allow us to ensure Batman: Arkham Asylum is of the highest quality for gamers."
Well, as we said, there are plenty of games coming up between May and June that ought to tide us over until the end of summer, so dry those tears. It's probably better that the team is taking some extra time to refine and hone the experience; with all the hype this project has had in the past, a disappointing result would be a serious letdown for a great many gamers.

This "tease the players like crazy, then take it away" corporate attitude has always been sickening, but now it's just seeming more and more like stupid business decisions are the culprit these days.
Killzone 2 had a good excuse for a delay, granted, but I still think making consumers hold-off on buying a highly-demanded and premoted product, in todays economy (that the company hyped to that high-level in the FIRST place!) is taking an unsafe risk that people will still buy, or be able to buy, the same amount of copies of those companies games if they were released the dates originally promised to the consumer.
I may buy Batman, I may not. It's the economy. But I feel bad for all my fellow PS3 players who are promised playing "Joker" as an exclusive one minute, and the next, not even be able to get the game itself. That's just wrong...if they "needed more time" they shouldn't be promoting and giving out unrealistic release dates in the first place!

But given the length of the delay it really doesn't look like much serious and pretty much everything that we've seen and read about the game has been positive. Don't worry yet.
