PSXE Poll Update: Square-Enix Is Down, But Not Out
Well, there's good news and bad news: the bad news is that approximately 40% of you believe that Square-Enix has fallen a long ways from their former state of glory, and may or may not claw their way back.
The good news is, of course, the other side of the poll results: 60% believe that Square-Enix is either still the reigning RPG king, or if they've been knocked off the pinnacle, the new Final Fantasy games will allow them to re-assume their lofty position. The majority of those polled no longer see the veteran RPG publisher as operating at the top of their game (pun intended), but if we remain patient, the likes of Final Fantasy XIII will heal most accumulated wounds. These are interesting results, surely, because it usually seems as if the naysayers are the more vocal group on the Internet; perhaps all you who still view S-E in a positive light should speak up more often! For our part, we agree with the majority of the poll-takers, and if FFXIII doesn't rock our socks, we'll eat 'em. It's just too bad that their IPs lack the quality of the FF franchise; in the PlayStation generation, Squaresoft could almost do no wrong. Vagrant Story, Chrono Cross, Parasite Eve, Legend of Mana, Front Mission 3, etc. It was just amazing.
For the next poll, we take a look at the summer and ask which of the many scheduled titles is tops on your "most anticipated list." Is it inFamous? Red Faction: Guerilla? Madden NFL 10? Batman: Arkham Asylum? It may be a definite challenge to pick just one, but easy polls are boring. If you had to pick, which of these promising titles would you select this summer?

I remember when I would see a game with Squares name on it and It would be a instant classic. Now I find it rare when I am excited for a game by them. Hopefully FFXII will be great!

If that's the case, why would they release FFXIII as PS3 exclusive in Japan.
But we'll see, if the 360 version of FFXIII have exclusive DLC or the quality is equally good with the PS3 version(dude, there's no way 9GB can win over 25GB) then it's confirmed SE is siding with MS.

why is everyone assuming square enix is still with playstation?
up to now, i see that square enix has no desire of siding with the playstation.
u never know what is going to happen until it actually happens.
microsoft can easily throw more money around and persuade square enix.
yea its a inconvenient theory, but if u are a gamer with both ps3 and xbox, than be excited all u want. but if u are a ps3 fan without a xbox. start emailing square enix and throw some hatemails cuz thats what i did to 2kgames to get bioshock to come to the ps3 which eventually did as well as the exclusive content.

What simply infuriates me is that they say they are pushing for multiplatform... that is fine with me. But when you push to release your games for multiple platforms, you don't release them exclusively for one home console!!!! Last Remnant, Infinite Undiscovery, and Star Ocean could have all been released for PS3 as well. What they did there is extremely shady and irks the hell out of me.
But then I play my FFXIII demo and all seems well. I think once FFXIII is released, more games will be released for the PlayStation 3. It happened this way with PS1 after FFVII, and PS2 after FFX (The Bouncer and Driving Emotion Type S don't count!).

And the Bouncer was awesome for sure. A sequel would be great and kind of falls in line with a ZOE2 sequel for me for some reason.

As far as the current generation PlayStation owner is concerned Square Enix are non-entities until they deliver on some of the promises they've made. That includes this implied promise made when calling their game line up multi-platform. The implication there is that games will appear on more than one platform. So perhaps they could pull their finger out of the place where the sun doesn't shine and announce/release Star Ocean and TLR on PS3. I couldn't give a rat's nether-regions for TLR, but Star Ocean has captured a little interest from me. But it's pointless as long as Square Enix operate as an effective Microsoft First Party studio with respect to High-Def gaming.
It's not a matter of being negative or a member of the Eye of Moron. [The Eye of Moron : The name I have given to the figurative, ever present, all seeing eye of stupidity and negativity that the Internet seems to foster. Think of something like the Eye of Sauron, except far stupider and more negative, and yet somehow as unstoppable and all-seeing. You get the idea.] It's more a matter of evaluating their behavior ans public statements and seeing where the reality fails to match their statements.
A good king says what he means, means what he says and his actions match his words. A bad king never means what he says, seldom says what he means and almost never does what he says. How does SquEnix stack up?
