Square-Enix Exploring Possibility Of Downloadable FFXIII Demo

We know we won't get that one-hour Final Fantasy XIII demo when the Blu-Ray edition of "Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children" releases here in North America. But many fans have been holding out hope for some kind of demo, possibly on the PSN and XBLM.

Well, the good news is that this is a possibility Square-Enix will examine. According to VideoGamer, producer Yoshinori Kitase says they have no plans to release a Blu-Ray demo of FFXIII in the West, but that's not the end of the discussion. Because they're working on a Xbox 360 version of the game for this region, Kitase doesn't want to release something only available to PS3 owners, so the Blu-Ray demo is out of the question. But...

"The type of demo version we released in Japan, we currently have no plan of doing that abroad, partly because we are going to carry on with the project alongside the Xbox version, so we really can't just make it available only for the PS3. But we hear that the demo version normally means something that you can download in the West, so that is a possibility we would like to check."

Yes. Please do "check." We promise you will find that about a zillion people want a downloadable demo, and we really don't care if you produce it for both the PS3 and 360. Heck, you probably should. Just give us something, 'cuz we're a little tired of just watching videos, as cool as they might be. Yeah, the game is a ways off for us but that's all the more reason to whet our appetites before we all go crazy!

Just give me the game already. Since Nov I have been replaying all the numbered games (from FF1-FF12 minus FF11, obviously) in order, and am about to finish 12 again. Am I going to have to run the FF gambit again before I get to play it?

Probably, but hey, its a tough life.

Perhaps I should start on the GB FF series next ...

Why not put it out on DVD as well as blu ray if it's such a problem. That way we get the full demo. Any dl demo will have to be extremely edited to keep to a reasonable file size.

Yeah I almost quoted that one too. What's the big deal if we get a disc based demo? So what if Xbox can't handle a blu-ray. Send us the disc already and give them something to download. Or, like someone else has suggested, just give us the game!

a 5gb demo sounds like a long wait...also you do realize that means still not till next year, because they would never release a demo over here without it being in Egnlish, so they still gotta get their english voice-overs done..

I think FF13 can wait until next year. PS3 owners have enough on our plate to keep us well fed for the remainder of 2009. Having said that, maybe it's the x360 folks who want for it this year - cuz they need something good this year.

Wouldn't it be shocking if MS were able to secure an exclusive demo for the x360 this year? I could see them announce something like this at E3.
Seeing as how the demo moved systems in Japan, they could try something like this leading up to Christmas in North America.
So, when Kitase says "checking", it means he's taking offers... lol!

Considering the gung-ho way in which Sony Japan is supporting downloadable PSP titles on PSN as well as the rather large PSN presence of downloadable PS1 titles (including a certain FF game from SquEnix) I can only marvel at how out of touch Kitase appears to be.

With this being the third article quoting Kitase on the subject of FFXIII in as many days, are we seeing the results of a media blitz by SquEnix? Or is it just a single interview that's been broken down in multiple ways? Either way, there's either a whole lot of lost in translation happening, or Kitase and SquEnix are really confused.

This just proves once again why MS's "throwing money around to a few f*cking greedy developers is SOOOO wrong......
By Squ-nix not utilizing the PS3's full power, & making the bluray version that PS3 owners rightfully so deserve, they've just dumbed it down once again for all the rest of us.

I guess this must be their #1 credo to live by....

I'm sure it's in a contract they signed with MS to "not make them look stupid" or something. So they can't just bring it out as a ps3 demo here on blu-ray. It is also too big for a downloadable demo, so maybe they'll make another demo sometime next year (yuck, so far away, and been waiting for a new "good" FF since X and XI) once the localization is complete, or nearing completion. A demo that is quite a bit smaller and shorter perhaps.

What do they really know about being fare.That gets me angry to hear they want to be fair to the 360 but they could care less about being fare to the PS3.Maybe someone should ask them if is fare that that the 360 gets Infinite Undiscovery,The Last Remnant(when first release)and Star Ocean as exclusives while the PS3 gets nothing even the wii has received more support from SE.So they should not talk about being fare sine they don't know what the word means.

The fact they claim they are "checking" means that its gonna happen. If they ever in FACT do release a 13 demo the sales we'll be through the roof. Even more so than already anticipated.

I can wait. The game is being developed on the PS3 first and foremost. Seriously guys get a grip here. Final Fantasy XIII is a PS3 exclusive in Japan. Anyone else agree that it is a big deal? That version will be localized for the U.S. The 360 version will be ported from the PS3 version. So we're not getting a gimped version of the game.

A downloadable demo would be splendid, but I'm not crossing my fingers at this point. A Microsoft exclusive demo would really make a big deal in the West. That would take a lot of wind out of the sails of Sony's press conference if this is announced...My worst nightmare at this year's E3.

Hey Square-sux,
How about you releasing the Bluray demo for us right now!!!!!

And just release that 4-disc demo set for the 360 crew, one at a time as you finish making them.

Just name the 4-disc DVD demo set "FFXIII Seasons", and put their first disc out in the Fall, then the 2nd in the Winter, the third in Spring, & give them last one to them in the Summer.

Problem solved!!!!!
OH wait.............crap, I just realized it will never work.....
there's no dirty back door styled "greening-of-the-the palms" involved in doing it my way.

See Ben, Thats where your wrong. I am one of the people that care if they produce it for both the Crap Box 3shitty and the ps3. Why am I the only one that is soooo pissed off at square enix? I can't believe that you people don't care that they stabbed us in the back, and went to M$? please someone respond to me and explain why your chomping at the bit for ff13 and not mad that games like Star Ocean 4 are ShitBox Exclusive? please Im so confused as to why you want to give away your money to a company, so they can continue to make games for M$ and not PS3. There is one more thing, I want you peole to stop and think about somethim please. FFXIII releasing for the ps3 and none of the other SE game are, FFXIII is nothing more than a quick cash grab for SE. just think about it. I really want people to respond to this please.
