Three Exclusive Reserve Promotions For Prototype
There's a whole horde of pre-order news today, and the latest involves the "other" June action blockbuster, Prototype. Everyone 'round here is hotly anticipating inFamous, but based on what we've seen, it could be a huge mistake to sleep on Prototype...
And if you're convinced it'll be a blast, you'll want to examine the reserve promotions for the game. Three different retailers have three different offers: first, GameStop will give you an Alex Mercer Collectible Action Figurine in addition to a "2-sided Critical Hints Location Map/Poster." Secondly, Hollywood GameCrazy is offering a Limited Edition Hard Back Art Concept Book, which "captures the details of Alex Mercer's character, shape-shifting abilities and weapons." Thirdly and lastly, Amazon will give you the Limited Edition Prototype Comic from Wild Storm, which allows you to experience the game world "from a different perspective in this new series," which follows the exploits of two New York City homicide detectives as they try to stop the game's main character...yep, Alex Mercer. These days, pre-order incentives are really taking center-stage; the retailers know that once you've put the money down, you're much more likely to show up on launch day. That much is obvious, and if Prototype turns out to be an excellent production, you're not going to want to miss out. Who doesn't want to play as a nigh-on invincible character?
Yes, the competition is stiff - let's toss Red Faction: Guerilla into the mix, too - but what's wrong with having three or four potentially great games that come out within a week of each other? Sounds fun!

But those preorder deals are pretty lame, most of the time action figures aren't that greatly made, the comic book and art books never interested me. I'd rather get a free costume like Mercenaries 2 did or something usable within the game.
