Activision Finally Officially Confirms Guitar Hero: Van Halen
This is one of those times where everyone knew it was coming; some sources even called it a written-in-stone fact, even though the publisher had never "officially" confirmed its existence.
Well, no more. Activision has confirmed to Joystiq that Guitar Hero: Van Halen is indeed in the works, and it's scheduled to launch some time during the second half of 2009. They wouldn't issue any further information, but we know the game will feature the legendary band's greatest hits and some other guest bands will include The Offspring, Weezer, Queen, and others. Furthermore, Activision's Senior Vice President of Global Brand Management clarified that "this is definitely Van Halen, not Van Hagar," which means that David Lee Roth and not his replacement, Sammy Hagar, will be in the spotlight. The former is back with the band, anyway, and many die-hard fans will say without reservation that Van Halen was at its best when one of rock's most colorful front men was present. We're not taking anything away from Hagar - they had some great songs with him, too - but if you're releasing a game that's a tribute to this band's legacy, you really have to put David Lee Roth in the lead.
So yeah, it appears that both Guitar Hero and Rock Band will continue to pump out the band-focused spin-offs. See what happens when a genre blows up worldwide?

Nice catch on YM,
love his guitarwork on "Blue"
Fender's even has a model of their Stratocaster's named after him too.......
The Yngwie Malmsteen Stratocaster is a replica of the guitar used by Swedish heavy metal guitarist Yngwie J. Malmsteen, made by Fender.
It has two DiMarzio YJM single-coil pickups (neck/middle) paired with a DiMarzio HS-3 Stack humbucker (bridge), a scalloped fingerboard with 21 Dunlop 6000 super-sized frets, a late-'60s large headstock and a brass nut.
This Fender Artist signature guitar also features a 3-ply white/black/white pickguard, a deeper scalloped fingerboard, Bullet truss rod nut and machine screw neck mounting inserts.
The early Malmsteen Strats (produced before the change to the actual "large headstock" models in 1998) featured an American 2-point synchronized tremolo, small headstock with "spaghetti"-style decal, Gotoh/Kluson tuners and a hardened-steel EasyGlider string tree, a Fender "DeltaTone" single-coil pickup in the middle position and a TBX tone control for the middle/bridge pickups.
