Activision Announces Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero, DJ Hero

Activision finally confirmed Guitar Hero: Van Halen earlier today, but that was only the tip of the iceberg.

In a press release, Activision went and announced several more major music-based titles for the end of the year. This includes Guitar Hero 5, Band Hero, DJ Hero, and the previously known Guitar Hero: Smash Hits. GH5 should be similar to the likes of last year's World Tour; it will "offer an unprecedented level of control over the way they play the game with the ability to drop in and out of songs and change band members, instruments and difficulty levels on the fly." Then there's Band Hero, which we had heard whispers about: it's being designed for all ages as it's a "family-friendly" entry in the series, and it'll be the first game in the GH franchise to have an E10+ rating. So obviously, you can't expect anything that even remotely approaches the realm of dark, heavy metal, and Activision says we'll get "Top 40 hits designed to expand the appeal to a broad family audience who can play together on the guitar, drums, bass and microphone."

Then there's DJ Hero, which will feature a wide variety of songs from the hip-hop, R&B, Motown, electronic and dance venues, and players will be allowed to customize their own tracks. Also, they revealed the special Turntable Controller and if you want a glimpse of it, visit GameSpot. It's a cool-looking unique device, and it represents another leap forward in the ever-expanding music genre of video games. If there isn't enough here to satisfy your craving for more Guitar Hero-related stuff, you're just insatiable.

Not interested in DJ Hero or Band Hero, but a new GH? sure! I don't see a problem with coming out with more and more GH games, because ....it's completely up to you to buy it or not. How can people complain about new games?

The bands will suck they should actually focus on one genre of Music maybe stuff from Spinefarm,Earache,Nuclear Blast & many other Record labels with not well known gods of Epic Music.
But I'll be sticking to Rock Band due to the DLC on offer

LOL I remember seeing a video last year where they showed how hard it was to build a GH game having to track down masters and break apart the song for the rythms.

PLEASE, OH, PLEASE make me a combined "Rock Band/Hero's/DJ/Karaoke" first person shooter!!!!

Activision is just going to kill all of these franchises. They're going to see diminishing returns on their investments year by year if they keep on doing this. I bought Rock Band 2 and don't intend on buying another music game for a REALLY LONG time. I'll just add to my collection by downloading DLC and I'll get The Beatles game when it gets cheap.

Its not like these games are any different from one year to the next. It's just a bunch of different songs...

I'm really beginning to lose respect for Activision. As someone else pointed out, they're milking a dry cow...

Every year another GH game? Another CoD game? I speak with my wallet and I'm not going to support this yearly rehash of previous games.

I'd agree with you 100% if they'd just patch RB2 to fix the remaining flaws. I won't list them here but people have been making suggestions on the RB boards for months, with no response from Harmonix.

p.s. Who would buy a GH game anyway? I've played GH:WT and, aside from the "vocals" interface and the "count-in" after pauses, it was worse than RB in every way.

p.p.s. Harmonix, please allow us to import the Beatles songs.

Can't say I approve of the "Hero" series since Neversoft took over. Harmonix does a better job all around and that's why I like RB better. Of course nothing beats real guitar, bass, drums and singing.
