NIS America Announces Last Rebellion
NIS America has announced their PlayStation 3 RPG, much to the delight of JRPG fans everywhere.
It's Last Rebellion, which is a "joint project between Nippon Ichi Software and HitMaker." This is probably best labeled as an action/RPG, as players will be able to execute normal action movements when exploring the world. However, once you enter into combat, the mechanic becomes turn-based. This battle system will let the player target specific body parts of an enemy and the reaction will be realistic; hence, if you shoot out the legs of an opponent, his or her movement will be drastically reduced. In some ways, this reminds us of Front Mission 3, a strategy/RPG on the original PlayStation where the same type of mechanic existed. As for the characters, there are two main ones: Nine (male) and Aisha (female); Nine is a Blade (his specialty is, not surprisingly, physical attacks) and Aisha is a Sealer who is capable of using powerful magic spells. But there's something interesting to add-
"The player can switch back and forth between the two during the battle. Since Nine and Aisha share a single, the player must strategically choose which character to execute their attacks first. Because of this, Last Rebellion is no ordinary RPG with another mindless battle system. The player must be aware of which enemies they are fighting against, and use their experience and strategy throughout the game."
The highlighted points of this battle system include interchangeable main characters, "gorgeous watercolor-like character art and event scenes," and a story based around revenge and a "dark anti-hero." We expect to see more of Last Rebellion in the months to come, and it should release in North America some time this fall. Bring on the JRPGs!
