Capcom Music CDs/iTunes Incoming

Music has become a driving force behind quality video game experiences in this generation, and such professional effort often deserves a separate format of its own. In other words, if the music is good enough, shouldn't it be available for purchase on CD?

Capcom certainly thinks so. As MCV reports, Capcom and Sumthing Else Music Works have inked a deal "to release the original soundtrack albums for best-selling franchises including Bionic Commando, Resident Evil, Dead Rising, Street Fighter and Monster Hunter." These CDs will be available in North America, and can be purchased at SumthingDigital.com or from iTunes. Said Andy Uterano, President of Sumthing Else Music Works:

"We are very excited to partner with Capcom in bringing their video game soundtracks to the North American market. Our mission as a label is to support and enhance the lifestyle experience of the gamer by offering the latest and greatest soundtracks so they can enjoy and revisit their favorite gaming moments through the music."

This deal currently involves the following titles, although you can expect more in the very near future:

  • Bionic Commando
  • Resident Evil 5
  • Street Fighter IV
  • Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop
  • Dark Void
  • Monster Hunter Freedom Unite
  • Spyborgs

This is the type of thing that's great for the fans. Furthermore, it should allow non-gamers to sample the kind of music they're missing out on, which is just another step in this continual crossing-over between the game and music industries. We've seen soundtrack CDs for games before - especially in regards to Limited or Collectors Editions - but this takes that concept to a whole new level.

These should be made available for free to people that have alreayd bought the games. Or at the very least include a CD in the box too. Surely 60euro is more than enough to cover both at this stage..

You think other developers will follow? I think It'd be pretty sweet to get soundtracks from your favorite games. The Katamari series has some great tunes.
