Sony To Reveal "Redesigned" PlayStation 3 At E3?
The number of E3 rumors are starting to escalate, and we're starting to wonder if gigantic announcements will be in abundance at the show...
As most of you are aware, a new PSP - quite possible the PSP Go! - will be unveiled during Sony's press conference, but that may not be the end of the new hardware announcements. According to PlayStation LifeStyle, a new iteration of the PlayStation 3 may be headed our way soon. We have no idea what sort of alteration one can expect; as the site says, it may just be new colors like the Matte Silver or the Ceramic White. We're actually expecting that anyway, as the silver and white Dual Shock 3 controllers will soon be arriving at retailers nationwide. But the other possibility is a slimmer, lighter PS3, which is a rumor that has been circulating for quite some time (take a look at the launch PS2 and the current Slim PS2, for instance). It's just that the word "redesign" could mean almost anything so at this point, the imagination's the limit... We don't believe it'll be a whole new model with different features and a bigger hard drive, but you never know; they might introduce one so as to issue a price drop. That's what we really want.
Well, it's just another bit of speculation that will run wild for the next few weeks. At the very least, it'll keep people talking, right?

because allllllllll of us launch ps3 owners (while we still smite you all on our backwards compatability =D) are now thinking, wow, now do i get this cool new ps3, and have 2 ps3s, just for the sake of it.
or do we have to miss out on this one?
i do commend MS on the fact that they have only build 3 diff consoles, and they all pretty much depend on what you want in the console, they dont keep continualy making new models and replacing them!!!!

Sorry, off topic but I'm really excited about that game.
I would like to see a slim ps3 but then I would loose my bet with my girlfriend; "it will be about 5 years until we see a smaller one."

After all...the most expensive console, should have the most news...at least, that's probably what the average joe thinks.

But I think that if all three of those rumors I mentioned are announced, one of them will fail. Most likely motion sensing would fail, because PS3 and PSP aren't going anywhere for a long time.

With developement on Sony hardware, starting off as a 'learning curve' phase. Most people by now expect a 2-3 year maturity period, before serious game engines that take advantage of how it's built, properly. We're beginning to see allot of that happening now. Tons of exclusives, tons of very interesting an innovative games. And, if history has proven anything, the games/engines are only going to get better and better as time progresses.
As for the motion sensing portion. I don't think it can hurt, and the reason why I say that is because, having played Trials of Topoq for the PS3, via the PSEye, I can tell you that Sony does indeed have some interesting ideas for motion sensing games. Additionally, I'd love to just buy a compilation of all of the Wii's 3rd party games, all on one Blu ray disc. That would be hilarious.

45nm Cell, 60nm (or 45nm) RSX, better component integration. Smaller BluRay innards leading to a slimline drive? Smaller power supply (45nm Cell and/or RSX need less power)? Smaller/ quieter cooling solution (45nm Cell and/or RSX produce less heat)?
Yes, I do believe that a slimline PS3 is a possibility. I'd hope that they keep some of the basic design reference with the original phat PS3. Whatever they do, the system must keep the power supply inegrated in the system unit, I hate those separate power supplies.
You could probably remove about an inch from the total height (system laying on it's side) and width. They might even shave a little of the depth of the system.
I like their cooling solution, it's very effective and quiet, it should probably remain relatively untouched, but run at a lower speed.
The end result would be a slimline system that would be a couple of pounds lighter and considerably smaller, just as quiet and cooler.

I think the PS3 is a very aesthetically pleasing system, but it is big. Bigger than any console Sony has ever made before. Yeah, it seems early for a slim version, but the PS3 needs it more than the PS2 ever did.
45nm cell with a smaller cooling system should also reduce manufacturing costs so it would be sort of natural to introduce it along with a price drop.

Though the 80/160 gig move wasn't that long ago so I think it's a little early to see another increase, but it will happen eventually.

The 45nm RSX and Cell are suppose to go into production some time in June or July. It is too early for a slimline, usually it takes about 4 to 5 years, following the PSOne and PSTwo pattern.
P.S There is a new Ratchet and Clank Quest for Booty bundle and inFamous bundle, both come with a extra controller, for Europe. Check it out on PSU.
