Sony's Increased PS3 Sales Projection Hints At Price Cut
Most gamers, journalists and analysts would love to see Sony announce a PlayStation 3 price cut at E3, and according to CNBC, they've already dropped hints that it will happen...
First of all, Sony did confirm with its recent fiscal numbers that they hit their goal of selling 10 million PS3 units in the fiscal year 2008 (it happened, contrary to how crazy some thought that prediction was a year ago). Furthermore, they've raised their 2009 PS3 sales goal to 13 million, which is a 30% increase, and...well, the analysts jumped all over that, because that kind of increase would be indicative of a price cut. Sony CEO Nobuyuki Oneda said they don't have any announcements to make "at this time," but added that if they release their pricing strategies, it "affects our inventory level." So an analyst asked flat-out how Sony expects to hit that higher 2009 number and Oneda replied, "Well, I think you have to guess what will be our pricing strategy." It's hardly a confirmation of any kind, but it's worthwhile to note that Sony has a point; they're already sacrificing PS3 sales over the next few weeks while everyone waits for E3 to see if the price cut announcement drops. They're in a tough spot but we figure everything starts to roll if the price drop comes at E3...
Oh, and you may notice the comment in that CNBC article- "That, combined with an underwhelming software lineup, has resulted in slow sales." ...it's so good to see that the mainstream media still thinks it's 2007 in the gaming industry. Really. Absolutely fantastic. A definite boost for legitimacy. 'rolling eyes'

:/ This is why I hate stupid people who think they are game journalists. Do you see why?
Either that, or its because NBC is owned by Microsoft. That might be one part of it.

Well, I think we're all ready for that price cut. Hopefully it'll be a $100 one, since I have a friend who's hankering for a PS3 but only has $300. I told him just to wait until the beginning of June... don't make a liar out of me, Sony!

As far as that stupid comment goes, look what happens when you leave a news story to someone who gets their own "news" from internet opinions.

Regarding PS3's price...I think a $150 price drop is simply impossible. Such a drop would be in the region of a 40% reduction, which is too steep for a single year. I personally favor a $50 drop at E3, and a further $50 drop on the 3rd anniversary of launch, along with the launch of a new slimline PS3. But what do I know? I'm just a gamer who's played video games for 3 decades, has followed the gaming industry for longer than most of the professional gaming 'analysts' have been alive and have owned game consoles and home computers too numerous to list.
What do I know? My prediction is a $100 cut in the Autumn along with a slim system. They might surprise everyone and bring the cut forwards, but judging by their sales prediction, the timing for a cut is most likely the autumn.

And yet the media in the US will still act like the PS3 has no games and still push the line that a hard disc-less 360 Arcade without BluRay somehow represents a bargain at $199.
When the crap comes from an organization with direct financial ties to Microsoft, I find myself listening with even more cynicism than ever.
CNBC is an NBC Company. MSNBC is an NBC company that Microsoft has a direct financial interest in. NBC has a conflict of interest when discussing Microsoft competitors in any analysis piece and should declare that, but never do.

They probably thought that games like inFamous and Heavy Rain can ignite the sale but no.
The only game that can spurr the sale is an exclusive FRANCHISE and that's GOWIII and
GT5(both these dude can probably give PS3 owners around the world 20 million more PS3 buddies).
But a price cut will definitely burn the Playstation soul around the world.
