Teaser Site For Kojima's New Project Now Live, Counting Down

Everyone is wondering what Hideo Kojima's next project might be, and we're among the many anticipatory gamers who are on pins and needles awaiting the impending announcement...

Previously, we thought it might be a Konami game that showed up in GameFly's database entitled, Tornado Outbreak, but for a variety of reasons, it seems a little unlikely. However, the speculation can now start afresh: the teaser site has gone live and as you can see, a clock is ticking down; it sits at about 94 hours and 13 minutes as we sit here writing this. If you wait patiently, a large "5" flashes in the middle of the screen and the thunderstorm setting is plain as day. The latter may support the initial Tornado Outbreak theory, but the Metal Gear Solid fanatics are hoping against hope that it signifies the fifth installment in the long-running series. We'd love that, too, but Kojima has said quite clearly that last year's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots would be the last iteration of the legendary franchise. So what might that "5" mean? Is it merely indicating the number of days remaining before the unveiling? Or is it something more? And what's with that stormy setting? That must have some sort of meaning, although we hesitate to hazard a guess... Perhaps some of you out there will come up with a few reasonable theories, but don't go too crazy; don't embarrass yourselves now. ;)

But as we've said many times before, we really don't care what it is, because provided Kojima is at the helm, the final product is guaranteed to be of the highest possible quality. It will rule.

To me, imo, this has Raiden written all other it. MGS5 starring Raiden, and just because there's a 5 dosen't mean it can't be a prequel.

haha... i'm staring really closely to see if there's any images in the clouds. Kotaku says the original magazine has an image of a Xbox 360 controller in the clouds.

Now i feel like a fool staring at clouds without making anything of it.

If it is another MGS game its likely to be focused on Raiden, through the imagery displayed. (The storm. Raiden=Lightning)I'd much rather it be retitled to "Metal Gear Raiden/Lightning" than to keep the "Solid" now that Snake is retired.

Also, isn't there a mentioning about Raiden and lighting in MGS2? Also isn't their fields such as the one on the website in Liberia, the country of which Raiden is from?

I also read on another site that the flash code says there will be another 3 more timer/countdowns with the final teaser revealed on the first day of E3 (which is also the day of the MSFT presentation).

Does anyone here remember in MGS4 when Raiden was talking to Snake and he says that he is rain? And he's all depressed and thinks life isn't worth living but Snake says Raiden is the lightning in that rain... The lightning in the storm... - That's why I think that this whole stormy setting on the teaser site represents Raiden being the lightning in the storm and rain. And the 5 represents MGS5 , which I believe to be a prequel to MGS4 ( the final game in the series)

The "5" could also be a "S" so it could be a substance mgs or Kojima could just be Messing with everyone's mind and it could turn out to be something absolutely random.

It is a MG game if you look at the source code for the website it has the tags <meta name="keywords" content="Hideo Kojima, MGS,METAL GEAR, NEXT, game, konami, kojima game, KJP, Kojima Production ">

Holy crap. It does say Metal Gear and MGS plain as day. This makes we weep with joy. Would they really try to fake us out with source code? I dunno. My poor brain can't handle this anymore. I did promise myself that if another Metal Gear was announced, I would forbid myself to look at any news on it until it was released. That way it would all be a suprise and spoiler free. I wish I would've done that with 4 because I saw a leaked pic of Big Boss before it came out. The whole time I knew that I was going to see him. It's just hard to resist all the info. I would have to stop coming here, that's for sure.

At first I was thinking that because how popular MGS is that it was only to make people come to the site but the used NEXT not NEW implying that it is not a new game.

The font of the "5" reminds me of the font in the MGS4 teaser trailer from a few years ago. But that doesn't necessarily mean that's what it will be. One can hope though...

MGS5: Tornado Outbreak?....nah, I'm laughing at myself for even thinking of that.... ohhh, now I made myself feel bad.

Whatever it is it's gonna be great. Can't wait to see what it will be.... But I think it's safe to say that either way it will be a multi platform game.... Which will suck cause then we'll have the Xbots going all like hahahaha PS3 is doomed boo wooo blah blah f**** blah....

I hate that mentality. But like he said he wants to appeal to the western gamers more so for me that meant going to the Xbox as well. So hopefully it will be a completely new I.P so we can at least keep their muddy paws of the MGS franchise. Sorry not hating just can't see the MGS franchise on anything but the Playstation 1/2/3/4/5/6/....

But if it turns out to go that route I guess we'll just have to live with it.

................hey guys.....does anyone remember oh...that gun that costed like 1,000,000 Drebin Points in MGS 4. Was it...the Tanegashima gun? Yea I think so. Oh and every time you shot it...a random tornado shot out of it and just created havoc.

Figured it out (i think)..

It's flashing a 5, which could mean MGS5. The thunderstorm is Raiden. Snake said something to Raiden in MGS4 that he is the Lightening in the storm.

New game is MGS5 starring Raiden.

If you look at the source code, one of the keywords is "NEXT"
It doesn't say "NEW"
Infact, it says MGS, METAL GEAR, NEXT, GAME, KONAMI etc etc
METAL GEAR NEXT GAME... I think it's a bit obvious

I still think it's going to be Tornado Outbreak. Kojima's big surprise got leaked by Gamefly, so he's trying to keep people talking with these dead end hints. MGS series was a huge mind trip! I believe that's what this countdown is to.

Also the month of April has had it's share of tornado outbreaks in the plain states. They did have a tornado outbreak in April 2007 and maybe the 5 is a symbol for an F5 then 4 for an F4 and so on.

Well the timer and stormy weather is gone; which is very strange. I'm thinking that symbol of a cloud, the one that comes up before the flash starts, has something to do with anything.

I distinctly remember snake saying "your the lightening in the rain" to Raiden at the end of MGS4 when raidens fighting with no arms protecting snake to get into the giant microwave. But thats just what I think.
